It's alright to tell me what you think about me
I won't try to argue or hold it against you
I know that you're leaving you must have your reasons
The season is calling and your pictures are falling down

The steps that I retrace the sad look on your face
The timing and structure did you hear he fucked her?
A day late a buck short I'm writing the report
On losing and failing when I move I'm flailing now

And it's happened once again
I'll turn to a friend
Someone that understands
Sees through the master plan

But everybody's gone
And I've been here for too long
To face this on my own
Well I guess this is growing up
Well I guess this is growing up

And maybe I'll see you at a movie sneak preview
You'll show up and walk by on the arm of that guy
And I'll smile and you'll wave we'll pretend it's okay
The charade it won't last when he's gone I won't come back

And it'll happen once again
You'll turn to a friend
Someone that understands
And sees through the master plan

But everybody's gone
And you've been there for too long
To face this on your own
Well I guess this is growing up

Well, I guess this is growing up [Repeats]

General Comment:For everyone that says Blink sold out for whatever reason, why are you even wasting time trying to talk trash on them? They're obviously doing something right if people are taking time out of their day to criticize them. And they didn't get back together while hating each other. They started talking again when Travis Barker got into the plane wreck and they made up while he was in the hospital.

My Interpretation:Wow, whats up with the fighting -.- i mean, come on. either way this is a great song and Blink 182 is a pretty good band -.-
I've only seen one actual legit attempt to explain this song and I didn't really see it the same way so here goes my attempt ^.^
"It's alright to tell me what you think about me
I won't try to argue or hold it against you
I know that you're leaving you must have your reasons"
-She is breaking up with him and he is just saying he isn't going to fight or argue over it

"The season is calling and your pictures are falling down"
-usually when people date they have pics of bf/gf in locker, cell or somewhere and he is just saying that he is trying to moving on after break up.

"The steps that I retrace the sad look on your face
The timing and structure did you hear he ****ed her?
A day late a buck short I'm writing the report
On losing and failing when I move I'm flailing now"
-he is just thinking on what all happened leading to the break up

    "And it's happened once again
    I'll turn to a friend
    Someone that understands
    Sees through the master plan"
-he is turning to a close friend for support cause he misses her

    "But everybody's gone
And I've been here for too long
To face this on my own
Well I guess this is growing up
Well I guess this is growing up"
-he realizes he just has to move on and stop crying over her

"And maybe I'll see you at a movie sneak preview
You'll show up and walk by on the arm of that guy
And I'll smile and you'll wave we'll pretend it's okay
The charade it won't last when he's gone I won't come back"
-he is imagining what will happen when they see each other again. They will act like nothing ever happen and she is just putting on an act that she is happy with the guy she left the main guy for. But when her bf leaves her she comes crawling back to main guy.

    "And it'll happen once again
    You'll turn to a friend
    Someone that understands
And sees through the master plan
    But everybody's gone
And you've been there for too long
To face this on your own
Well I guess this is growing up"
-she'll try and turn to a friend but she doesnt really have anyone anymore sso she'll just have to get over it by herself

Just my thought on the song meaning(:

General Comment:Ok... I'm kind of sick of this, so I'm going to set the record straight.

JUST BECAUSE A BAND CHANGES ITS SOUND, DOESN'T MAKE THEM SELLOUTS. JUST BECAUSE A BAND MAKES MONEY, IT DOESN'T MAKE THEM SELLOUTS. IF A BAND IS FAMOUS, THEY ARE NOT SELLOUTS.

All of you who are calling blink sellouts because they aren't the immature punks they were in '94, need to grow up. While I'm a die hard blink fan, I will admit they sold out the second they announced Neighborhoods.

Bands change their sound all the time, but that doesn't make them sellouts, it just means they want to try new things.

I think blink just did what Rush does every few years, and changed their sound because they liked it, and wanted to try something new. While they stayed close to their basic genre, the sound of their music got more a 00's alternative feel to it. Which is ok, because they like it.

Look at AVA. Tom took the sound that blink had been acquiring over the years, and went all out with it until he got a completely different genre. Did he sell out with AVA? No.

Also... If making money makes a band a sellout, then every band in existance, that is played on the radio, are all sellouts.

Back in the good old days, blink just liked playing their music. All the ads, apparel, posters etc. was all from the label (Who only care about music)

Also, if a band replaces someone, that doesn't make them sellouts. If Scott was an ass with a drinking problem, should Tom and Mark have to suffer for it? If someone wants to leave the band, but everyone else wants to keep playing... Should the rest of the band suffer by continuing on with one less member? Or just find someone to replace them?

Again with AVA... When Ryan left, Matt took his place. When Atom Willard left, Tom, David, and Matt got someone new. While I'm not sure what happened with Ryan, I know Atom left on good terms, and even helped them finish L)VE.

What makes blink sellouts, is them getting back together when they don't like each other. (Which I'm not sure about anymore, because they've given evidence that they're back on good terms in their side projects)

Ok, now that I have explained this, I shall end my rant.

Song Meaning:firstly this is an awesome song and as much as i love blink i can agree that they "sold out" for the lack of a better word, i know there is more important things but when you call yourselves punk or come under the banner of punk then you can't move in the direction the band has and still claim to have those same ideals. punk is about equality, care, individuality and is more important than money, i totally agree that if you had the chance to get millions most would take it, but plenty of bands have done it the true way and kept their dignity. bottom line is punk isn't a place for writing songs to get hits, or love song after love song, it's about change and keeping society honest. lke i said a great band, i love them alot, they got me into the underground punk bands i like like nofx and bad religion but don't call them punk and don't say that it's okay to change what you do and what you believe in for money, that is why the world is so messed up as it is, dude ranch is my favourite album though, just before they got too big

Song Meaning:by the way thre is more to selling out than the sound of the songs, there is the image, i am an old school underground punk fan and i like the new stuff like self titled even though it's different musically, its good, its good to have an open mind, just not good to do it for money, but then again we don't know their motives, bottom line is punk isn't about money, fame andtrivial shit

General Comment:They didn't sell out they grew up, they matured, they tried new stuff! You can't go on creating ten angst pop-punk songs about being young when you're not young any more. My favourite band ever are Pink Floyd yet Dark Side Of The Moon and The Wall all sound completely different does that mean they sold out as well? There's only one thing worse than someone with shit taste in music and that's someone who stops liking a band cos they become popular...grow up.

General Comment:The second verse is wrong . . . it's 'you'll' not 'I' there . . . I agree with omgslyer666. It's about a guy who's girlfriend broke up with him, then turns to his friends for support. In the end, he's over her and won't be there when the girl realized she shouldn't have left him. I love this song!!

    My Interpretation:Agreed with omgslayer.

To me this is about a guy, who got rejected asking a girl to be his girlfriend.

1st-Verse: He's saying it's alright to tell him what she thinks about him asking her. He won't argue on why she rejected him. He knows her reasons for rejecting him, but now his thoughts of her are falling down.

2nd Verse- I agree with jssantos. He's looking back on her, asking, did i do something for her to reject me? Maybe someone told her a rumor about me.

Chorus- he's turning to support, but now he's on his own. He thinks this is part of growing up. The second chorus is the same: the girl turning to support, seeing whether he hurt his feelings, etc.

3rd Chorus- when they run into each other at the movies, she's with another guy. They wave and smile, and he pretends its all good, same with her. But really, he's still sore over rejecting; she's sore over rejecting. He's saying: he won't last as her bf, but if he leaves, he won't ask her again.

General Comment:its.. perfect. really it is. it hits the nail on the head for teenage relationships that go sour, and even the tone of the guitar is befitting to the actual lyrics. the grinding, sharp and piercing main riff is just the right sound to take out certain frustrations and its just great.

    fuckin awesome song
