Here's what Dave says about it

"It's one of the most aggressive songs we've ever written - it's kinda dark and dissonant but really in your face. It begins with a vocal and a guitar then it explodes and gets even bigger and just keeps on going and going. It's fucking great."

Since he says it is dirty I think JennieL and kilanofilla and all the others have gotta be right.

here's another bit from an interview

Q: Are you still dispensing cunnilingus advice?

A: "I did that the other night, actually. I made some refrence that the only way you're going to please a woman is by asking her what she likes, and then I sort of compared the arena to one giant pussy. It wasn't cool."

It sure sounds like he is likely to write songs about that type of stuff

This song is, in fact, about Oral Sex. If you guys happen to visit the site, fooarchieve.com, there is an interview they had with him regarding this song. His comment was:

"Is the line 'I love it but I hate the taste' from All My Life about oral sex?

'It is, actually. That song is a little dirty. Use your imagination, but good call - you're the first person that's ever asked that. From experience? Many. I'm very fond of giving oral sex to women. It's a pleasure-giving experience - giving someone something that they'll remember for the rest of their lives, and if you do it right they will.'"

I love all the various interpretations..all of them seem to make sense in some sense. But all of them seem kinda obvious and shallow. Maybe its just me, but I always thought this song was deeper than that, but used the analogys of drugs, sex and self-inflicted pain to make the main point. Or maybe im just reading too much into it...

yea,i think so. dave has said in many interviews that this song is about oral sex.
love this song,and love the foos!saw them at leeds last year and am going to see them in june this year!can't wait.
ooo and one of my friends was absolutely convinced that the line 'I love it,but i hate the taste' was 'don't care about the hip-hop chase'.

i think this song has to do with drugs b/c of the line

at first thats what i thought the song was aubt but then i listened to it mroe and read the lyrics.

I'm actually pretty sure the song is about "cutting". I'm a huge fan of the Foo, and this song is one of my faves, but it all ways kind of threw me off. I'm not saying they encourage cutting like any of those faggy emo bands, but the lyrics to kind of give the suggestion of cutting.

I've been reading many posts for many songs and although there are some similar opinions, it's interesting to note that a person's interpretation is often based on age, life experience, and so on. True art comes from the collective consciousness--so even the ARTIST himself doesn't always know what a song "means". Music is a gift which is why we all love it so much and turn to it in times of great sadness and also times of great joy. I have heard songs that made me think of mother/daughter love yet others say it's a lesbian song or someone else will say it's about drugs. Love, sex, drugs--all addictive. It gives you a high. And it is often the cause of much heartbreak. I recently lost a loved one and now almost every song I hear is about death and mourning a lost loved one. Even OLD songs that I thought were about romantic love. As for THIS song, I can see it being about sex or drugs. Especially the "easte/taste" reference. But for ME --it is a song about life's problems and how they keep coming at you. "Done done and I'm on to the next one". A song of frustration about not getting what you want or need. It is probably about a lot of things (like Carly Simon admitted "You're so vain" is about a combination of many old loves. I mean, if it was JUST about sex or JUST about drugs, would it be called "All My Life" I think it is about life and that never-ending search for peace or joy or love or whatever. He's worried about finally getting it and then losing it again (the ghost reference). Whatever "it" is could be a CAREER, a HIT SONG, a LOVE, or even LIFE itself. The wrist part is about control--either controlling himself and his behavior or someone else's. This is just MY interpretation but that is because it is my song. As it is yours. And Dave's. ANd everyone else's. Music belongs to all.

Songs relate to everyone differently. Everyone who says its about drugs or going down on a girl ignore the first 2 verses...it may just be about that, but i dont get how the first 2 verses apply to that. Anyways...for me personally I think about how im always bored with the people around me...and I am always looking for who are like me..and I when i first meet someone i look for that...and then "Im done, on to the next on" "all my life Ive been searching for something" "nothing satisfies, but i'm getting close" and so on

It may be about cunnilingus, but the lyrics don't seem that obvious. I mean, I know Dave is adamant on that interpretation, but I can't help but think he's just fucking with us. The lyrics, especially the opening part, seem to be about finding whatever it is that you're looking for, which, in the narrator's case, seems to be revenge.
