All my life I've been searching for something
Something never comes never leads to nothing
Nothing satisfies but I'm getting close
Closer to the prize at the end of the rope
All night long I dream of the day

When it comes around and it's taken away
Leaves me with the feeling that I feel the most
Feel it come to life when I see your ghost

Calm down don't you resist
You've such a delicate wrist
And if I give it a twist
Something to hold when I lose my grip
Will I find something in there
To give me just what I need
Another reason to bleed
One by one hidden up my sleeve (one by one hidden up my sleeve)

Don't let it go to waste, I love it but I hate the taste
Weight keepin' me down
Don't let it go to waste, I love it but I hate the taste
Weight keepin' me down

Will I find a believer
Another one who believes
Another one to deceive
Over and over down on my knees
If I get any closer
And if you open up wide
And if you let me inside
On and on I've got nothing to hide (on and on I've got nothing to hide)

Don't let it go to waste, I love it but I hate the taste
Weight keepin' me down
Don't let it go to waste, I love it but I hate the taste
Weight keepin' me down

All my life I've been searching for something
Something never comes never leads to nothing
Nothing satisfies but I'm getting close
Closer to the prize at the end of the rope

All night long I dream of the day
When it comes around and it's taken away
Leaves me with the feeling that I feel the most
Feel it come to life when I see your ghost

Then I'm done done on to the next one
Done done and I'm on to the next one
Done done and I'm on to the next one
Done done and I'm on to the next one
Done done and I'm on to the next one
Done done and I'm on to the next one
Done done and I'm on to the next one
Done I'm done and on to the next

Done done on to the next one
Done I'm done and on to the next one
Done done on to the next one
Done I'm done and on to the next

Don't let it go to waste, I love it but I hate the taste
Weight keepin' me down
Don't let it go to waste, I love it but I hate the taste
Weight keepin' me down

Done done on to the next one
And I'm done and on to the next

My Interpretation:Sounds more like an urge to kill than oral sex; that kinda ruins the song for me, which is unfortunate since I really like this one.

Song Meaning:Just finished reading 'This is a Call: The Life and Times of Dave Grohl' by Paul Brannigan and it states that this song was the first song about 'eating pussy' to win a Grammy.

    Song Meaning:Interview 1
"You've been around a lot of hard drugs. Have you ever been tempted to try coke or heroin?"

Grohl: "No. It was wasn't my thing. I had a friend who OD'ed on coke when we were 18 years old. Most of us didn't have the money. In suburban Virginia, it was acid and whisky. It wasn't cocaine and tits. I'll never forget the first time I sat around a back lounge of a bus watching people do cocaine. Nobody took their eyes off the tray of coke. Urgh. They were vultures. It just seemed dark and fucked-up to me. I know that the day I get my face in a pile of cocaine is the day that it all goes straight fucking downhill."

    Interview 2
"Is the line "I love it but I hate the taste" from All My Life about oral sex?"
Grohl: "It is, actually. That song is a little dirty. Use your imagination, but good call - you're the first person that's ever asked that. From experience? Many. I'm very fond of giving oral sex to women. It's a pleasure-giving experience - giving someone something that they'll remember for the rest of their lives, and if you do it right they will."

From Grohl's mouth himself... He does not do drugs, he likes pleasuring women.

General Comment:Okay, there seems to be a whole sex angle to this song that I totally didn't get. Are you all sure that Dave Grohl wasn't being a little facetious with his comments? Because the song seems to be delivered with more rage than sensuality. Maybe it's good that you all go with that rather than my theory: the internal struggle with personal failure and the desperation that goes with it. "All my life I've been searching for something, something never comes never leads to nothing"--the futility of trying to reach a goal--"when it comes around, and it's taken away"--and being thwarted from obtaining it. "Feel it come to life when I see your ghost"--That sick feeling about your own future you get when you see balding/fat/fill-in-the-blank working stiffs who have been beaten down by life and the mortgages/spouses/fill-in-the-blank that are part of the chain. "Twisting" the "wrist" is a projection of that anger onto someone else--blowing up at the office, fighting at a bar, smacking your not-so-significant other. "Weight keeping me down" is good old depression. Finding "another one to believe"/"deceive" is bonding with some poor sucker and fooling them to "open up" to you and once you're "inside" you can unleash your toxicity onto them. Then it's "done, done, onto the next one."

General Comment:I really think the song got many meanings. But imagine a rapist singing it. Fits perfectly!

My Opinion:Nine years later, "All My Life" still sounds as fresh as the day it was released. It totally rocks!

General Comment:its about life itself and drugs

you're always looking forward to doing something, but it never comes..and then you use drugs to calm your needs
..and the chorus is very clear

heyyy dont let it go to waste
i love it but i hate the taste
    weight keeping me down..

he uses because it relaxes him, but he also hates it
and then he starts to "fly" because of the drug effect

raw song though, this is how good rock n roll should be

Song Meaning:Has anyone said that it's (in part) about "magic mushrooms"?

"I love it but I hate the taste."

That makes more sense than oral sex. Mushrooms taste much worse. And you'd love them more.
