I'm a popstar threat and I'm not dead yet
Got a super dred bet with an angel drug head
Like a dead beat winner, I want to be a sinner
An idolized bang for the industry killer
A hideous man that you don't understand
Throw a suicide party and I'm guaranteed to fucking snap
I'm supersonic, its pornoholic
Breakdowns, obscenities its all I want to be

If you're 555, then I'm 666
If your 555, I'm 666
(whats it like to be a heretic?)

Everybody's so infatuated
Everybody's so completely sure of what we are
Everybody defamates from miles away
But face to face they haven't got a thing to say
I bleed for this and I bleed for you
Still you look at my face like I'm somebody new
Toy- nobody wants anything I've got
Which is fine because your made of
Everything-I'm-not

If you're 555, then I'm 666
If you're 555, I'm 666
(whats it like to be a heretic?)

Thirty seconds, sixteen, eight, four, lemme tell you why
I haven't the slightest, I'm teaching your brightest
They're listening, clamoring
All the money in the world can't buy me
Go ahead, lie to me
Tell me again how you're tortured
I want to know how you fallowed your orders so well
Your full of shit
You had a dream, but this ain't it

If you're 555, then I'm 666
If you're 555, I'm 666
(What's it like to be a heretic?)

My Opinion:i agree. I'm a Christian but metal is my life. and people prejudge every heavy band like their all gifts from the devil or somethin. just because a band wears mask and plays loud doesnt make them bad people! their simply expressing the feelings that every single one of us feel every day. and thats what makes Slipknot so unique, they make you think outside the box with their lyrics. sure they could just come out and say "hey we're not Satanist" in their song, but they use the stupidity of others to not only make a bad ass song but to also send a message. "if your 555 then im 666" simply expresses the way that the media labels them because their one way which is careful and politically correct "555" and they think of slipknot as total thugs "666"

General Comment:In case everybody was wondering, 666 is the number of MAN, not the devil. That's what it says in the bible. So i hope that clears some things up

My Interpretation:K so Ive read some of the comments you guys made.
I think this song is against fake bands that sellout to the industry. So if you're a band that used to play metal, but then you switched to pop because it is the biggest in the music industry then you are being made fun of in this song.

This band is also against people who think Slipknot as these total satanic and evil misfits just because they are different and don't morph into what the industry wants.

I saw a interview of Corey Taylor and he says he likes to reach out to the people in the world that feel out of place or feel like misfits just because they are original. And that his music helps them to release that inner rage. So Slipknot is branded as these freaks just because they don't change just to impress the majority of people, and Hollywood. He also said in the interview that Hollywood doesn't like to include them. And that making the masks is all they want to do with Slipknot. Nothing else.

To put it simply I think this song is about their hate for things such as Hollywood and anyone for not understanding them. Branding them as satanic.

My Opinion:and also the band "the devil wears prada" like slipknot alot and they are 100% christian and christians dont listen to satanic music. slipknot are just making the 555 and the 666 thing so they can compare themselves as big differences to the people that try to change them or judge them for some reason. and trying to tell them that they dont hav a right to judge them or they dont have to change cuz its not their job to impress anyone and saying that they are actually better than them because they arnt judging anyone and they are letting people be who they want to be cuz anyone can be what and who they wanna be and be happy with themselves cuz no one has the right to judge only god does. and also they HAVE said that they ARE NOT SATANIC mkay.

My Opinion:this song is awesome and no i dont think slipknot is satanic especially since craig jones is christian and christians dont listen to satanic music and they especially dont play satanic music. the things that they say in their songs i think are because they are trying to make their messages in their songs more understandable and 555 and 666 are big differences so i think they are trying to make themselves big differences against the people who are judging them or trying to change them or something

My Interpretation:i know this for a fact slipknot is satanic. the number 666 is the antichrist number. so what i understand is that corey is saying if your a 555 which is the number of man. then corey is the 666. this is something that makes me wonder because all the followers of satan have not gotten a sign.

General Comment:Ahhh, good ol' Heretic Anthem. I actually tend to get tired of this song easier than others on IOWA & it's nowhere near the best the album has to offer but hell it's OG SlipKnoT it's all good! (I also hate that it's chorus is responsible for far too many 14 year old kids thinking they're edgy yelling "555 TO THE 666" lol that bugs me so much not even the right lyrics)

In any case, the song's meaning has been beat to death for goin on 10 years now especially considering there simply isn't that much "to" this song lyrically (or musically really, this cut always struck me as kind of an unfinished song). Pretty self-explanatory, raggin on the panty-waist limp dicks that comprise the modern music industry.

Song Meaning:i think this songs meaning is about how for an example. a kid moves to a new school and he doesnt like sports and everyone there does like sports and its kind of a small school so the teachers and the students there all try to change him into liking sports but he doesnt want to change because he likes who he is but they keep on trying to change him. so the kid would refer to himself as "666" and everyone else "555" which means he is and always will be different than them and they need to leave him alone because people have a right to be who they are and be happy. thats what i refer to this songs meaning.
