i'm a bubble in a sound wave
a sonic push for energy
exploding like the sun
a flash of clean light hope
all you scientists can hold your breath
shall i decide to show myself? oh oh

if you think like thomas edison
could you invent a world for me
now all that's on the surface
are bloody arms and oil fields
could i turn this place upside down
and shake you and your fossils out? oh oh

should i come outside and run your cars
should i run your rockets to the stars

take me to the source of chaos let me be the butterfly imperfect symmetry has underlying poetry and rhyme

you can't predict everything with newton like certainty why?
'cause it floats around all we see with oscillating energy on high
and you soothe yourself with a sound you know
you tune out the hypnotic dance
perfect hexagon of the honeycomb
and you soothe yourself with the shapes you know

your word for me is fusion
but is real change an illusion
could i turn this place all upside down
and shake you and your fossils out
if i'm to run the future
you've got to let the old world go
could you invent a world for me
i need to hear a symphony oh oh

General Comment:Man has been searching for the eternal truth as far back as our history extends. He wants to know whence he came and where he is going and has attempted to substitute scientific pursuit for spiritual enlightenment. If we look at spiritual enlightenment as "the great unknown" or the sacred knowledge that "everything is the same even though it is different," then we sen in the first that despite all of his scientific pursuits, this eternal truth has had to enlighten everyone. The second verse asks "if you think like thomas edison could you invent a world for me?" rhetorically showing that man cannot use science to create a better world. Progress is regression. The earth was made with enough to sustain human life in balance with the rest of the world, it doesn't need man to act like gods and throw things off balance. Because mankind has tried to act like gods, we are now left with "bloody arms and oil fields." The line "could i turn this place upside down and shake you and your fossils out? oh oh" is an emotional cry to return to the past, a more natural, harmonious life with nature. The next line begs "take me to the source of chaos let me be the butterfly" which is perhaps a desire to go back in time and try to ensure that humanity doesn't mess up this time. To express that the untainted world is perfect, although nature might not appear as perfect to our distorted minds as our current way of life is the line "imperfect symmetry has underlying poetry and rhyme" A tree branch may not be straight but it is perfect. The next verse
"you can't predict everything with newton like certainty why?
'cause it floats around all we see with oscillating energy on high
and you soothe yourself with a sound you know
you tune out the hypnotic dance
    perfect hexagon of the honeycomb
and you soothe yourself with the shapes you know"

is really just a different way of saying everything Ive explained above.
The last verse starts with "your word for me is fusion but is real change an illusion?" which asks if what we are doing is really even making anything any better.
To sum up my point I will use the last few lines.
"if i'm to run the future
you've got to let the old world go
could you invent a world for me
i need to hear a symphony oh oh "
She is saying that, at this rate, the future of humans and many other species is not very safe and we need to stop with out "old world" ways and become truly progressive by paying more attention to what nature tells us. The last two lines are a rhetorical call for us to stop being gods. Beauty is in nature.

General Comment:about the magic of creation over the horrors of destruction.

    it's dance
    it's music
    it's literature
    it's art
    etc.

it's about how all those things are what make us human, and they are fairly abstract and not easy to explain scientifically. yet the process is wonderfully powerful. "a sonic push for energy exploding like the sun"

a great, great, song and some of corin tucker's best lyrics.

General Comment:I love the line "now all that's on the surface / are bloody arms and oil fields." A clear reference to wars being fought over oil. Something a certain presidential family loves to do....
