Close your eyes, close the door,
You don't have to worry any more.
I'll be your baby tonight.

Shut the light, shut the shade,
You don't have to be afraid.
I'll be your baby tonight.

Well, that mockingbird's gonna sail away,
We're gonna forget it.
That big, fat moon is gonna shine like a spoon,
But we're gonna let it,
You won't regret it.

Kick your shoes off, do not fear,
Bring that bottle over here.
I'll be your baby tonight.

General Comment:I think this is a fine song, but doesn't anyone else feel like it's a little anti-climactic, as the last song of an album full of poetic, Biblical epics?

General Comment:This song reminds me of one of my guy friends. He took me home after a party and we was listening to Bob Dylan. I don't smoke, but in the car that night we got high and he put on the song -Rainy Day Women #12 & 35- and said that was our song because of the lyrics. It was perfect (example: -They'll stone you when trying to go home.. -They'll stone you when you're riding in your car.. -&& Everybody must get stoned)

Anyways, we got high and he told me he wanted to kiss me but I said no because he had a girlfriend. He said don't be afraid or worry and don't regret it. So we kissed and one thing led to the other and we made love to this song.

It reminds me of him because he said the things in the song:
-You don't have to worry any more.
-You don't have to be afraid
    -You won't regret it.

But I think its kind of ironic how he said all those things just like the song, because right after he said it, this song came on.
And not only does it remind me of him because he said those things, its because the moon was shining, I closed my eyes, kicked off my shoes, we shared a bottle that night, I didn't fear anything because I trusted him, and I let him be my baby that night. And we don't regret it even tho it was only a one night stand.

General Comment:"In the heartless, mechanical, Land of Darkest Night
Where answers flee and questions can kill a boy
Our hearts are made weary by the thoughts of what is "right"
For we are told we are wrong when all we want it joy
But a lantern, a light, in a distant window glows
It is the warmth of the woman whose love she has gave me
Each woman is unique in the form that God chose
But mine, she shines on, to protect and to save me"

    -Jamie Daniel, American Poet, 2003

This describes the meaning of this song to me

General Comment:The comment made by GypsyDavy is the correct one...It is a love song written to his first wife Sara Lownds and first born child Jesse Dylan.

General Comment:Its a (relatively simple) song that can be interpreted two ways, which is the clever part !
I could be a man preparing for a night of romance with his lover (with a nice bottle of wine) or it could be a parent singing a lullaby for their baby . Beautiful song .

General Comment:totally about heroin. "that big fat moon is gonna shine like a spoon"...when you take heroin, you need a spoon.
the big fat moon could be the substance.
"kick your shoes off, do not fear- bring that bottle over here"
when you are on heroin, you dont want to wear shoes, but you want to drink a lot of wine

General Comment:It's a great song. It's absolutely about a one-night stand, or at least a temporary sexual relationship. It sounds to me like they're friends and out of mutual attraction and youthful desire they're going to kick it up a notch for one night. Though this song is infinitely better, it's basically the same set up as Dave Matthews Band's Say Goodbye.

General Comment:Just about temporary love and temporary relief of sorrow and trouble.

The bridge gives it a nursery rhyme kind of feel which makes it all seem so innocent and sweet.

General Comment:I think this is about the speaker trying to convince someone to have a one night stand with him.
