I thought that you knew her
(I thought that you had heard)
I thought that you cared
But what am I to do
At four in the morning
With her back against us all?

Running out of run-arounds
Gently down the stream
How could you make me who I am
When I made you who you are?

I thought that you knew her
(I thought that you had heard)
I thought that you cared
But what am I to do
At four in the morning
With her back against us all?

Gently to the end with me
Rowing at your side
Through Denver's cold and frozen ice
I thought I saw, I thought I saw you standing there

I thought that you knew her
(I thought that you had heard)
I thought that you cared
But what am I to do
At four in the morning
With her back against us all?

Unclouded and clearly
Words work themselves back to me
Every time from the bottom, it's all the same
"It's all the same!", she screamed
She screamed, "it's all the same"
(Yeah!)

I thought that you knew her
(I thought that you had heard)
I thought that you cared
But what am I to do
At four in the morning
With her back against us all?

General Comment:A Thousand Paper Cranes is also a book about like a generation after the Hiroshima bombing, a little girl named Sadako who gets diagnosed with leukemia. and a classmate told her about a myth that if you folded 1000 paper cranes the gods would grant her a wish (obviously curing her from leukemia) but she only got to 644 cranes.
we had to read this in the 5th grade...but every year we learn about the H-bomb for some reason, so I still remember it.
I don't really get the lyrics. I mean, obviously they're a completely different meaning...and maybe just about a wish, or a hope someone has. maybe someone is depressed or something (the girl) and the ambiguous "you" was supposed to fold 1000 paper cranes and help her or wish for her, but "you" failed.
    I don't know.

General Comment:I absolutely love this song and wish it was released on something other than their Kids For America EP... but yes, 1000 Paper Cranes portrays to a story I believe in which a girl folds some cranes and is granted a wish and it went on to become a...myth... or legend... Check this link if you want more info...
