Heh yeah this song is really simple but I could listen to it on repeat for .. a long time .. cause it's neat.

It's just called 'And Darling' on my album. But 'Don't Confess' has '(this thing that breaks my heart)' after that, which is odd seeing as it doens't belong to that song. I don't know whether it's deliberate, or just a mistake. But I'm just gonna stick to what my copy says.

But yes... absolutely beautiful song. Truely.

This song is about a person that broke up with either Tegan or Sara. The person called them over the phone, and broke up with them. Then to put hurt to shame they changed their number. Tegan or Sara love them a lot. They wrote this song after that happen.

^^ it was tegan that this happened to. i saw them perform it live on youtube (cuz i cant afford to actually GO to any concerts) and she said so.

I see it as this person wishes that their partner (or whoever they want) would be the person that they want them to be and do the things they want them to. And them not doing these things "breaks my heart". I'm in that situation now...there's a guy that I like and he likes me too but he doesn't want to commit. So he goes around doing whatever he wants to do and hurts me. He doesn't do it on purpose and he probably has no clue it hurts me. I want him to be and act a certain way and I know he won't. That truly breaks my heart.

She says that the song is not about that type of break up.

As for the putting hands in pockets, I think they might be paying homage to Ani De Franco she says that in Gravel. Just a cute thing you might do in a relationship. But in this song i think that it might be a gold digger thing? I'm really not completely sure.

i dont think its a gold digger thing, as you said. for me, its a cute little song and saying that someone used you and took your money and betrayed you just doesnt seem to fit here.

it may just be me...but when i listen to this song i feel like i relate to it a lot but in a different way than you guys have taken it so far. what seems to stand out to me, and it may just be because i feel this way currently, is that the writer of this song possibly wants to not be with this person hence "i feel like i know you don't mean to be mean" but it breaks her heart to think of leaving this person because her partner seems so sincere in loving her and she doesn't wanna break her heart... this song reminds me of my situation with an ex: we both love each other, but there are things going on that get in the way of us being together. and we still are very close, and she still tells me she loves me, and likes me better than who she's with now, and it breaks my heart each time she does. and we both hurt each other from time to time, but aren't trying to be mean. so the part about "you slip your hands inside my pockets..." is like acting like we're together, but then we're not, so some things she does are hurtful, even though she's not trying to be mean...it just fits the situation really well, which is interesting considering the situation it was based on being so different.

funny how we all see what we want to see...and not just in lyrics...

I think this song is about... after a fight with that special person. They're sad, but they're in love and they're not angry anymore. Creep up and tell me that you, you love me more each time you look into my eyes, I feel like... I know you don't mean to be mean, I'm sure you know the same for me, when you creep up and tell me..." They've already fought, the girl creeps up and tells Tegan she loves her. And that they're both sorry for being mean to each other. Times goes on, but things are going the same. They're being cute, hands in pockets, they have each others hearts... and Tegan just fucking wants her to say that she's the only one for her and how much she loves her. And everytime they fight, it breaks her heart.

xslerb, I agree with you! I think its a couple who love each other, however when they argue wish they didnt. Her/his partner always ignores the arguments and just creeps up and tells them that they love her and she/he hate them for this. Afterall everyone says things they don't mean in arguments. Possibly around strangers you appear to be a strong couple, but when no ones around its just a big mess? but love each other and can't let go and are making it difficult for either to ever let go.
