Tegan and Sara – You Went Away

  General Comment:Assuming that there is "more to life than love, and being together", as the song apparently concludes on that note, what is that?
  
  The song seems to relate to a specific relationship, but to me it doesn't seem as if Tegan is asking for something more than just their love and proximity, but for the meaning of life. What is there to life if not finding the person you want to spend your life with? The song seems to use the relationship for its surface meaning, and that the break up gives rise to much deeper and older thoughts.
  
  The song is beautifully written. The beginnings of the first and second verses are so simple, yet so striking. "you said you couldn't love me...all I do is love you". 'Aw shucks', anyone?
  
  Also, why are there so few comments about this song?? I find the line "is there more to life than love and being together?" in my head every day. And I really wish that Tegan answered the question within the song with examples. Because I can't seem to figure it out. I realize that there is plenty in this world to fill your life with, but what else is as profound, crucial and worthwhile as love? Everything else seems so futile and boring.

  General Comment:This song really made me see something that I didn't see before, I listen to this song now and it really speaks to me the person isn't ready, and sure you are upset, but you realize there is more.

  General Comment:I've listened to this song a lot recently, but reading the lyrics with the song... It's like spending all day with a person, yet not knowing exactly who they are.
  "there's more to life than love and being together"
  like she's determined that she can move on from him/her.
  "is there more to life than love and being together?"
  like asking for reassurance that there is more in life for the two of them.
  "I went away"
  She moved on, but the way it's sung shows how begrudging the move away from him/her was, and how she could still fall back in love with him/her so easily if he confessed his/her love for her.
  I love this.

  General Comment:Two people in a relationship just realize that no matter how much they might want it to work out, they just aren't cut out for a romantic relationship with each other. One person just can't love the other as much as she might like.

  General Comment:A constant back and forth in a relationship. One person is giving everything they have and the other doesn't seem to be reciprocating the same feelings. At the end it makes you wonder, if this is as good as it gets, but you realize that there's more out there than relationships.
