This reminds me of my friend, but instead of knowing that he'll always be there I'm stuck hoping he won't let me go. I know him to hold me down, and stop me from making mistakes. He's my anchor, and the only thing that grounds me sometimes. If he were to let go of me I would probably float away. I love this song though! It's so good. The lyrics are great!

This song kind of reminds me of my best friend (if he didn't live almost clear across th country right now, it would remind me more). We sort of have a special bond, each of us is there for the other when needed (well, when we're together, anyway).

This song reminds me of my friend Mary. I've been through so much and she's always been there for me to help me. She's never let me down. She means so much to me. I think this song could be interpereted in different ways. It could be about a special person like a best friend, or the person he loves. This person could have been there for him through thick & thin and helped me. They never let him down. It also sounds like it is about God. God would never leave you alone or let you go. He'll always be there to pick you up when you're down...which is what this "anchor" in the song does.

I don't know about this song anymore. It sounds like a love song, but it's a bit dependent. I for one hate the thought of having an "anchor".
Opposition, an anchor doesn't pick you up, they drag you down and keep you in the one spot.

For me, this song can be looked at in two ways, the first being that you can love someone and they can help you through difficult times in your life, which is the nice one.

But the one I find more likely (sorry to disagree with everyone!) is that its about someone dragging you down.

Seems abit too dark to be based on feelings of love and wanting to help someone, would you really want and anchor if you were sinking in sand....the sand being a metaphor for sadness and overwhelming emotion?

Ok. I see what jacinta and *baby_girl* are saying with the whole anchor thing.

So! Going with the idea that an anchor 'keeps you down'... It can be interpreted this way.

Your anchor keeps you grounded to reality when all of life around you is confusing you.

That's how I see this song. In the verses, he seems like he's confused and cant find his way. But, then there's his anchor that pulls him back and sets him straight.

Does that help any with the whole "anchor" idea?

i think this song is about God and how He is something to grab onto always. an anchor is something that keeps you where you need to be-which could be in any number of places-and God knows which place is the right place, and He will anchor you there.

if you look at this song as God being an anchor, all of the other lyrics just slip into place as well.

this song is totally about God..
For me its about how he keeps me form losing my mind through the hard times.
Hes an anchor because He will never move and will always be there even when others arent.
And no human can make that promise.
