Bound at every limb by my shackles of fear
Sealed with lies through so many tears
Lost from within, pursuing the end
I fight for the chance to be lied to again

You never were strong enough
You you never were good enough
You were never conceived in love
You will not rise above

[Chorus]
They'll never see
I'll never be
I'll struggle on and on to feed this hunger
Burning deep inside of me

But through my tears breaks a blinding light
Birthing a dawn to this endless night
Arms outstretched, awaiting me
An open embrace upon a bleeding tree

Rest in me and I'll comfort you
I have lived and I died for you
Abide in me and I vow to you
I will never forsake you

[Chorus: x2]

My Opinion:Sorry for any grammar mistakes.

I'm not a fan but I love Evanescence songs. :) I'm christian in worst option for most people - catholic. But you cannot find me at church in any sunday, I'm from many years more like "I love God but I don't need mediators to talk with Him". OK, back to topic. Next are my speculations, don't kill me for that. They started at christian label but they don't wanted to be identified like strictly christian band (playing on tour only on christian festivals in USA, zero other festivals and normal band shows in USA, Europe and other countries - isn't like that?). So people from that label kick off Evanescence. Typical religion (especially catholic) stuff - you don't like us (don't wanna be with us), we don't like you (and I don't think personally that it's OK). But their songs written when they was at that label (and before they were signed) survive right?

These words below I founded from over 1600 comments for amazing and disturbing at the same time video for "Lies" on YT (someone used fragments from Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ"):

Arms outstretched...An open embrace upon a bleeding tree" - crucifiction reference
"Rest in me and I'll comfort you" (Matt 11:28)
"I have lived and I died for you" - another sacrifice reference
"Abide in me" (John 15:1ff)" - and I vow to you
I will never forsake you" (Deut. 31:6, Hebrews 13:5)

    youtube.com/…

Now "Lies" words with that picture make more sense. Right?

General Comment:anything from evanescence is amazing and the males voice (im not sure who it is) is haunting and chilling and make this song complete.

i feel the meaning is about someone who is in a hospital after a suicide attempt and doesnt think that anyone or anything can save them but starts to realize that might be hope after all.

"But through my tears breaks a blinding light
Birthing a dawn to this endless night
    Arms outstretched awaiting me
An open embrace upon a bleeding tree"

General Comment:I don't think this song has anything to do with christ directly.
It gives me the feel of a person who is constantly put down by what people tell them. By how people lie to them. It's fighting to break through their dark grasp and find yourself again, all the while blocking your ears from their teachery. The guy's vocals are deep, giving meaning to what it actually feels like to be lied to. Like a nightmare.

General Comment:Evanescence arn't directly a christian band but i can see the religious parrallels in this song.
You will never be strong enough
You will never be good enough
You were never conceived in love
    You will not rise above
    They'll never see
    I'll never be
I'll struggle on and on to feed this hunger
    Burning deep inside of me...

This talks about thr human desire to give in to sin and that "you" meaning all of mankind will "never be strong enough" or "good enough" to be forgiven withouht god.
Yeah that's just my interpretation as a christian.

    General Comment:I love this song.

You will never be strong enough
You will never be good enough
You were never conceived in love
    You will not rise above

They would be the most harshest words that you could say to anybody.

I think this part refers to taking comfort in depression itself, and how it can 'call' to you. It is sung menacingly rather than affectionately/caringly.

General Comment:it's always interesting what people emphasize and ignore.

To me the song is about being hurt (in a relationship or just a friendship) and dealing with that; I have to say I find it interesting how the song starts hopeful but realistic " I fight for the chance to be lied to again", gets really negative and yet ends on a positive note.

I have to say if anything this sounds more like an analogy for life. Life lies to you and yet in order to live you must fight for that chance to be lied to again and eventually you'll find people that will be there for you. But unless you risk you can't gain anything

My Interpretation:I think this song can mean that somebody is suffering from low self esteem, and hate themselves for all that they are. They have been hurt many times in their lives by the others, and they have condemned themselves to the belief that they're not worthy, and is hungered for a bit of love. (you're never be strong enough, you'll never be good enough, you were never conceived in love, you will not rise above.)

But then in the end, somebody comes and rescues them from their internal hell.
