Lyrics for Early Sunsets Over Monroeville as interpreted by Savant

Early Sunsets Over Monroeville Lyrics
Late dawns and early sunsets
Just like my favorite scenes
Then holding hands
And life was perfect
Just like up on the screen
And the whole time while always giving
Counting your face among the living
Up and down escalators
Pennies and colder fountains
Elevators and half price sales
Trapped in by all these mountains
Running away and hiding with you
I never thought they'd get me here
Not knowing you'd change from just one bite
I fought them all off just to hold you close and tight

But does anyone notice?
But does anyone care?
And if I had the guts to put this to your head
But would anything matter if you're already dead?
And should I be shocked now by the last thing you said?
Before I pull this trigger
Your eyes vacant and stained

But does anyone notice?
But does anyone care?
And if I had the guts to put this to your head
And would anything matter if you're already dead?
And now should I be shocked by the last thing you said?
Before I pull this trigger
Your eyes vacant and stained
And in saying you loved me
Made things harder at best
And these words changing nothing
As your body remains
And there's no room in this hell
There's no room in the next
And our memories deafeat us
And I'll end this direst

But does anyone notice?
But does anyone care?
And if I had the guts to put this to your head
But would anything matter if you're already dead?
And should I be shocked now by the last thing you said?
Before I pull this trigger
Your eyes vacant and stained
And in saying you loved me
Made things harder at best
And these words changing nothing
As your body remains
And there's no room in this hell
There's no room in the next
But does anyone notice there's a corpse in this bed?

OK just thought of something. 'Not knowing you'd change from just one bite...' Has this anything to do with "Vampires will never hurt you'? Maybe he bit her but thought she wouldn't turn into a vampire but then she did so he has to kill her. And before anyone argues, i know MCR aren't vampires and there are loads of different meanings to the song, this just fits in with the story.

This was the first MCR song I listened to. It blew me away I was in a libray and when it was over I just was in awe. I had no clue what it was saying but the whole thing about having to kill and it doesn't matter cuz their dead makes you feel so heavy and dark i luv that feeling. wether it's a vampire zombie or an abstract dead thing needing to die it's a hard thing to part someone you love. the song makes you rise and fall as the repeatingish guitar and the lyrical mealody get louder and softer. I love it it is full of great dynamics that touch those rarely discovered parts of emotion

I hope I don't make myself sound like an idiot when I say what I tihnk this song means.
I think it's about a couple running away from vampires.
In the end, the girl gets bitten (Not knowing you'd change from just one bite) and the boy has to kill her (And if I had the guts to put this to your head)
Thats what I see when I listen to this song.. but knowing me, i'm totally wrong >.

I'll start by saying how much i adore... i disagree with B12 by saying apart from the lyrics its some of their worst work... i personally think this is one of their best songs with or without lyrics, the melody is great! and the lyrics are just beautiful wich makes the song even better...

I think people are taking this whole dawn of the dead thing too literally... MCR are heavily influenced by Movies and comics and stuff but i dont think this song is about th exact dawn of teh dead situation i think they saw the film and it inspired them so they wrote a song putting themselves in the situation...otherwise as B12 said gerard wouldnt be crying about a couple of kida from the film... this song is alot deeper than a horror film.

Oh and also just because gerard said it was about teh film doesnt mean it is about the film... again like B12 said he gives so many meanings for songs... he doesnt give it away that easily

i have to agree with what everyone else already said..i disagree with b12 on saying its one of their worst songs..because it isn't the melody is beautiful and the lyrics are so deep and gerard finds the right metaphors everytime he is nuts but he's also smart and is defenetly a god!..and for all the girls who love gerard he is so much more than a pretty face...i have to say that gerard had to go through something like that..had to have a trauma in his life...that actually lead him into writing about all the things he writes about...i like this song very much...im in love with it..theres suchh a sweet and melancholic melody to it but behind it the real meaning hides...i got to searching deeply into this song because of a friend that actually saw it from a different point of view than you all

he told me it was about marilyn monroe..and if you look at it from that point you'll see it's got something to do but obviously it has something to do with the movie also..

he also said it was criticizing some of things wich existencialism criticizes..such as perfection and liberty..you cand perfectly hear a highlight in the word perfect in the begining with the drums..and also is critical of liberty when it says " trapped in by all these mountains" apart from the story of zombies you guys told...it also is about someone who wants to die..because he doesn't understand the world..existencialism..well ok that's all i have to say..im probably wrong but that's what i think

i love this song so much. its my favorite song by My Chem, and i've always loved it. i always thought it was about Vampires, i actually hoped it was since i have an unhealthy obsession with them, but now that u mention the dawn of the dead it makes perfect sense. This song always made me think about killing someone you love 'before i pull this trigger, your eyes vacant and stained, and in saying you love me makes this harder at best' is the line that always gets to me. but the best part is the end, when the music stops and he holds that last note out. Amazing.

I was so suprised I didn't know this song was about Dawn of the Dead (Considering I looooove Romero) Anyway I think the song sound more like it's between Roger and Peter considering Peter had to shoot Roger after he became a zombie and Roger was in a bed and all that crap. Anyway I'm probably wrong but that's how I interpreted it.

wtf? this song just gave me goosebumps. and all your comments. all of you have points so i dunno, i just stick to my own point of view. its about a guy who wanted to end up his relationship with his gf because he feels that she doesnt love him anymore. but he's having hard time doing it because the girl would say that she still loves him, and he keeps remembering all their happy moments together.

I always thought it was a vampire story much like the one described by My Intoxication, but now i'm prepared to accept the Dawn of the Dead theory as an INSPIRATION, but i think there's still more to it. The lines "already dead", and "not knowing you'd change from just one bite" make it pretty impossible to completely igore the zombie/vampire theory but the emotions can be taken out of that setting too i think. It's like i used to be a big Buffy fan and a lt of those stories would work fine ifyou took out the vampires.

Another thing i'm reminded of when i hear this song is Porphyria's Lover, the poem by Robert Browing (http://www.bartleby.com/101/720.html here for ppl who don't know it). The idea of wanting to keep someone with you so badly that you'd kill them to keep them with you. I'm not sure that translates exactly to this song, but in both i can see the guy killing the girl because he loves her and wants her to stay the way she is, (either not a zombie in the song, or still there and in love with him in the poem). Does that make any sense? I'm not saying that's what Gerard was writing about or anything but i can see links between the two.
