Lyrics for Early Sunsets Over Monroeville as interpreted by Savant

Early Sunsets Over Monroeville Lyrics
Late dawns and early sunsets
Just like my favorite scenes
Then holding hands
And life was perfect
Just like up on the screen
And the whole time while always giving
Counting your face among the living
Up and down escalators
Pennies and colder fountains
Elevators and half price sales
Trapped in by all these mountains
Running away and hiding with you
I never thought they'd get me here
Not knowing you'd change from just one bite
I fought them all off just to hold you close and tight

But does anyone notice?
But does anyone care?
And if I had the guts to put this to your head
But would anything matter if you're already dead?
And should I be shocked now by the last thing you said?
Before I pull this trigger
Your eyes vacant and stained

But does anyone notice?
But does anyone care?
And if I had the guts to put this to your head
And would anything matter if you're already dead?
And now should I be shocked by the last thing you said?
Before I pull this trigger
Your eyes vacant and stained
And in saying you loved me
Made things harder at best
And these words changing nothing
As your body remains
And there's no room in this hell
There's no room in the next
And our memories deafeat us
And I'll end this direst

But does anyone notice?
But does anyone care?
And if I had the guts to put this to your head
But would anything matter if you're already dead?
And should I be shocked now by the last thing you said?
Before I pull this trigger
Your eyes vacant and stained
And in saying you loved me
Made things harder at best
And these words changing nothing
As your body remains
And there's no room in this hell
There's no room in the next
But does anyone notice there's a corpse in this bed?

Alright, the only line I'm not sure of in there is:

"And these words changing nothing"

which could be...

"And at worst chaning nothing" which would go along with the line before it "...harder at best"..."and at worst...", see?

Well, listen to the song, and decide for yourself.

...and I'd have to say that this is one of the best songs on the cd, absolutley amazing.

This song is probably my favorite on the album. The Monroeville in the title, are they talking about Monroeville, Pennsylvania?

This song is about the movie Dawn Of The Dead, which took place in the Monroeville Mall. Watch it and the song will make a lot more sense to you.

this song is fucking incredible, its very true that a lot of the lines were inspired from dawn of the dead but it also is from having that girl that you always pine over and jsut worship because she is perfection in form, and you just question if she even knows you exist if she'd even care if she found yuo as a corpse in her bed, if a gun to her head would even make her acknowledge you...weve all had it and its soo hard..amazing fucking song

ironic fact: this cd has been on display for about forever at the hot topic at monroeville mall. the employees must know and are being funny.

either way, i didnt like this song much UNTIL i made the connection to dawn of the dead and then the song got freaking awesome. If you like this song and haven;t seen the movie, do yourself a favor. It adds a whole new dimension to the movie.

It's too bad the mall doesn't look much like it did in the movie anymore. but you can still definately tell it's the same mall. Unfortunately, the parts that look the same are all being remodeled right now. Anyway... really cool song.

This song has references to the movie "Dawn of The Dead". The end lyrics were apparently improv'd by Gerard, and it was his decision to leave them out of the booklet

Ah, that clarifies things. I just watched the new Dawn of the Dead, and wasn't sure which it was about. I'll hunt down a copy of Romero's dotd.

Beautiful song.

I haven't watched the movie yet (still looking for it), but what I make of this song is:

First, the literal sense:

"not knowing you changed from just one bite"

She's bitten by a vampire (zombie?), so now he has to kill her before she becomes un-dead, but it's very hard for him to do because he loves her and she tells him she loves him...

The obvious one.

Second interpretation:

They have a relation, but he notices the love in her heart died, that their relationship is going downhill, that her eyes are vacant and their love is dying, but she still tells him she loves him, so he has to "kill" the relation, he has to let her go without really wanting to, but it's for their own good (just like killing a vampire).

One of my absolute fav songs, I adore it.

cryptochild's second meaning is the best so far i believe, eventho all of those who live close to this Monroeville would like their little claim to fame i dont tihnk that is what it i about at all because the cd was recorded like a year and a half before the movie came out..nice try though... incredible song

The song is about Dawn of the Dead.
Pitchfork Red... you're not smart.
The 2004 version of Dawn of the Dead is a REMAKE.
1978- that's when it was made, directed by George Romero.

Other than the fact that the TAGLINE for the Dawn of the Dead movie is in the actual song: "And there's no room in this hell."
And the tagline is: 'When there's no room in hell the dead shall walk the earth.

The fact it talks about escalators and fountains, which is a scene in the movie where the zombies mindlessly ride up and down the escalator and then a zombie falls in the fountain.

Of course there's no actual love interest that occurs like this in Dawn of the Dead, so it's just MCR assuming that if this did happen (perhaps between Francine and Stephen- the ones in love in the movie)
this would be what is running through the man's mind.

Also, since there's no discussion for the opening song of the CD, 'Romance' you'll notice that it's almost a note for note replication of what plays in Dawn of the Dead when Roger and Peter are playing Poker and Francine is setting the table. This is kind of a pivotal moment as it establishes the movie's theme: consumerism. Plus it's a pretty tune.

ok this is what i get from this song....
he starts out describing a trip to a mall with his girlfriend and he notices all the beautiful things and how his girlfriend just makes it so much better "icing on the cake" if you will...
but he uses the living as a metaphor for a vampire, "i never thought they'd get me here.....not knowing you'd change from just one bite...i fought them all off just to hold you close and tight"......at the mall we all know there is other guys and plenty of things that can happen to get into your girfriends head to make her feel "tided down" or something of that nature......
but to me guys start messing with her and "bite" her and unsuccessfully he fights them off to try and keep her.....
the guys got to her and he knows he must break up with her(But does anyone notice?
But does anyone care?
And if I had the guts to put this to your head
And would anything matter if you're already dead?
And now should I be shocked by the last thing you said?
Before I pull this trigger
Your eyes vacant and stained
And in saying you loved me
Made things harder at best
And these words chaning nothing
As your body remains
And there's no room in this hell
There's no room in the next
And our memories deafeat us
And I'll end this direst)
all this is saying is that she has betrayed him and that he knows what he must do.....the corpse in the bed-he knows that since the mall trip she's been almost dead to him...she's not his anymore, she was biten and changed.

and i know that this comes from the movie

Neat, i never thought of it like that orange... works fairly well to me. As much as i want to think he does say
"and in saying you loved me makes this harder at best, and at worst changing nothing"
he does definitely say "and these words changing nothing."
It does make sense, he feels hopeless and knows that the things hes saying(singing) and thinking won't change anything because shes already bitten, using whichever meaning of bitten youd like. Probably my favourite song ever, if there's a song thats more mellow and relaxed while being full of emotion i havnt found it.
