In vein, I seek farther, the needle closer, the little end

The world is watching as I take my last breath
The world is watching as I get undressed
Coz I'm pretty like drugs

The world is watching as my wings unfurl
The world is watching the death of a girl
Coz I'm pretty like drugs

I load the gun and I'm out of the world, and I take it harder, coz oh
Pretty oh
Pretty like drugs
I load the gun

The world is watching with a pregnant pause
The world is watching as I fuck to applause
The world is watching as I plant the last seed
The world is watching me watching tv
Coz I'm pretty like drugs

I load the gun
I wax and wane
Subject all of my pain
Onto you baby
Coz I'm pretty like drugs

My Interpretation:i feel that the song is trying to convey (as others have said) the allure of fame and substance abuse and how the world loves to watch people screw up their lives. in this song, the world is her audience and she's center stage with her raw, wild emotion, living life in reckless abandon. she likens herself to drugs because drugs are "pretty", alluring, and unpredictable. people are typically drawn to others with a savage, naked lust for life, sex, and drugs, because they love to watch them fall. people think it's intriguing -- amusing; they want to live their lives on the edge and escape from their white-collar cubicles and ideals. they might even find this dare-devil way of life slightly arousing. we all have an animal inside us -- some suppress their inner longings and move on, while others fall victim to their darker desires; i think this song reflects that same intrigue and the obscured appetite for self-sabotage and destruction.

General Comment:Some people are extremely self-destructive. Normally, their associates intervene. But there are a few people in whom it just seems appropriate, and so no one does anything and just watches with interest. I'm sure you know someone like that -- the person everyone digs because his or her behaviour makes everyone else's vices seem tame, whose madness makes everyone else's seem less raging. Celebrities tend to be serious examples of this, and I think maybe this song is about that. Think maybe Ms. Garside is one of those people? Just an idea, think about it.

General Comment:I like the idea that it's about meeting up to people's expectations and feeling under pressure to please.. And comparing herself to drugs.. Or anyone in the spotlight.. with the Fascination and attraction of drugs.. In the end drugs will slowly destroy you.. parallels an artist slowly destroying themselves because of the fame/pressure? An idea.

General Comment:What about this?....The world is fascinated with anything these days, reality tv shows such as big brother have shown us this. Maybe the song is about how the world has become cruel through their voyeurism, 'the world is watching the death of a girl'. We are watchi8ng peoples downfall, the song is maybe asking us to take a look at how sick we've become?

General Comment:When I was thinking about what this song meant, I approached it like this: drugs. Attractive to those who are inexperienced, but then you try them and see their downside and their ugliness, but you can't stop. That lead me to think it could well be about porn, or prostitutes, or being in love with the kind of woman who'll bring you down.

General Comment:I think this song is about how people will have different opinons of you, how people have their own ideas about what is attractive and what isn't. Just like how people have their own opinon on drugs, they hate or love them, like or dislike, so I think the meaning is "Pretty Like Drugs" as in, you might think i'm pretty or not, and everyone has their own opinon on it..

    I hope this makes sense.
