September never stays this cold
Where I come from, and you know
I'm not one (I'm not one) for complainin' (for complainin'),
But I love the way you roll
Excuses off the tip of your tongue
As I'd slowly (slowly, quietly, slowly) fall apart (fall apart)

(It's fallin' apart, it's fallin' apart, it's fallin' apart, it's fallin' apart...)

I said, "this wont mean a thing come tomorrow",
And thats exactly how Ill make it seem
'Cause I'm still not sleeping,
Thinking I've crawled home from worse than this

So please, please (please)
I'm runnin' out of sympathy (I'm runnin' out of sympathy!)
And I never said I'd take this
I never said I'd take this lying down

She says,
"Come on, come on, lets just get this over with"
She says,
"Come on, come on, lets just get this over with"

And I never said 'Id take this lying down,
(She says, "Come on, come on, lets just get this over with")
I've crawled home from worse than this... from worse than this
(She says, "Come on, come on...)
(...come on, come on, come on")

(You always come close but this never comes easy)
I still know everything
(You always come close but you never come easy)
I still know everything
(This always come close but you never come easy)
I still know everything
(And you always come so close...)
I still know everything,
(So close...)
I still know everything, I still know...

You always come close but this never comes easy,
You always come close but you never come easy,
You're comin' in... you comin' close
(I never said I'd take this lying down)

I never said I'd take this lying down,
But I've crawled home from worse than this

If it's not keepin' you up nights,
(Then whats the point?)
Then whats the point...
(Then whats the point?)
Then whats the point...

I'm in your room...
Well is this turning you on??
Am I turning you on???

I'm in your room,
(You're such a... You're a lady)
Are you turned on?

I'm on the corner of your bed,
I'm thinkin' maybe...
Are you turned on,
Are you turned on???

My Interpretation:I think it's about a relationship that was purely sexual on the girls behalf, but the guy (Adam) actually cares a lot for her. So he uses sex to stay close to her, but he knows she doesn't love him. Also, it seems the sex has gotten boring.

"This won’t mean a thing come tomorrow
and that’s exactly how I’ll make it seem
    Cause I'm still not sleeping,
thinking I’ve crawled home from worse than this"

he acts like he doesn't care about he.

"You always come close but this never comes easy,
    I still know everything
You always come close but you never come easy,
    I still know everything
This always comes close but you never come easy,
    I still know everything
    You always come so close...
I still know everything, I still know everything, I still know..."

they probably know a whole lot of crap about each other which gets in the way.
friends turned into friends with benefits.

"If it's not keeping you up nights
    then what’s the point
    then what’s the point
    then what’s the point
    then what’s the point

    I'm in your room
now is this turning you on
    am I turning you on?

    I'm in your room
    are you turned on?"

he's insecure now because the sex has gotten dull.

that's my best idea of it.

General Comment:Oh my gosh I love this song <3 I listened to it a million times and I still love it as much as the first time I heard this song if not more.
:)I think this song may mean: This guy he loves this girl so much and this girl could care less about this guy because she keeps hurting him he's just another guy to her she is probally just using him, they got in a fight today.

    "September never stays this cold
Where I come from,"----This guy is bitter or unhappy---
    and you know
I'm not one (I'm not one) for complainin' (for complainin'),
"But I love the way you roll
Excuses off the tip of your tongue"---This girl is hurting him and she always has an excuse for it.---
As I'd slowly (slowly, quietly, slowly) fall apart (fall apart)

(It's fallin' apart, it's fallin' apart, it's fallin' apart, it's fallin' apart...)

"I said, "this wont mean a thing come tomorrow",
And thats exactly how Ill make it seem
    'Cause I'm still not sleeping,
Thinking I've crawled home from worse than this"---This girl has really hurt him this time,he's trying to act like it's nothing new he's dealt with worse more than once---.

    "So please, please (please)
I'm runnin' out of sympathy (I'm runnin' out of sympathy!)"---This guy wants her to stop hurting him he can't keep giving her second chances---
And I never said I'd take this
I never said I'd take this lying down---This guy has had it with this girl emotionaly beating him to the ground he's done he didn't 'sign up for this---.

    She says,
"Come on, come on, lets just get this over with.
    She says,
"Come on, come on, lets just get this over with"

You always come close but this never comes easy---Everything comes with a price. He gets the girl he likes but she is crazy.---
You always come close but you never come easy,
You're comin' in... you comin' close
(I never said I'd take this lying down)

I never said I'd take this lying down,
But I've crawled home from worse than this

If it's not keepin' you up nights,
    (Then whats the point?)
    Then whats the point...
    (Then whats the point?)
    Then whats the point...---

    I'm in your room,
    "(You're such a... You're a lady)"
    Are you turned on?

I'm on the corner of your bed,
    I'm thinkin' maybe...
    Are you turned on,
Are you turned on??? "----The girl and guy usually makeup with sex,This guy use to think "your such a lady"shes so beautiful. but this girl she kept hurting him so much that he dosn't even know if she turns him on anymore,he has to ask him self "are you turned on"?
after all the hurt the girl did to this guy even her beauty and the sex can't satisfy him anymore.

General Comment:The persona loves the girl he is with to the point that he just takes in whatever she says...
"I love the way you roll excuses off the tip of your tongue, as I'd slowly fall apart"
And things take for the worst..but still he hangs on...
The lyrics could be referring to sex, or different aspects of the relationship that the girl simply wants to get over with, which really means a lot to the guy...
'She says "come on, come on, let’s just get this over with”'
And the coming close part could mean actually getting into the relationship (or some sexual act or whatever), something that the girl cannot fully accomplish, and the persona says he still knows, he knows...and it hurts to know...but still he hangs on...
In fact he spends so much sleepless nights over it...but constantly reassures himself that this isn't the worst..."I never said I'd take this lying down, but I've crawled home from worse than this"
My favourite line is "If it's not keeping you up nights, then what's the point?"
It's like realizing that the person you care so much about doesn't give the same weight to the relationship the way you do...and it seems pointless to continue with it...but then again, isn't it part of loving, to continue loving regardless of how the other person feels?

I found myself in a similar situation before...and it was both heaven and hell...:D the guy I loved (see it isn't a gender thing, I was the one having sleepless nights), when things turned sour, acted and seemed like he couldn't care less, but I was still in love with him...that from a real person...as you know it, unrequited love is a theme that will probably forever be part of a century's collection of great love affairs...an enduring theme that is present even in adolescent "puppy" love and bedroom romances...

sorry for the really long comment...that didn't really add new material to the interpretation, save maybe for the personal parallelism with it...couldn't help it, I just really really love it..:D yey Taking Back Sunday!:D

General Comment:I can't decide if it's about a girl trying to solve all her relationship problems by manipulating him with sex, and the guy wants to ACTUALLY deal with them, and he turns the tables on her or a guy who is trying to convince his gf to sleep with him, and she eventually gives in but in a way that shows that she just doesn't want to fight anymore and that she still doesn't want to... I'm leaning toward the 2nd but I read this thing making an argument for the first and that makes sense too, it's just more figurative and the 2nd seems more literal...

General Comment:alright im not really sure if im right. but then again we all have our own interpretations... i can see it being about sex, and i can see it as a relationship type song.. whatever. it is what you want it to be. so for me, this is it.

    September never stays this cold
where I come from, and you know
I’m not one (I'm not one) for complainin' (for complainin'),
But I love the way you roll
excuses off the tip of your tongue
as I'd slowly (slowly, quietly, slowly) fall apart (fall apart)

I really just think that the guy is just being annoyed by the girl and is just taking it out on other things, like the way we all do. the last line is amazing in that the girl is just making excuses about why she isnt being a good gf i guess, or just excuses about anything thats not going right, and he's falling apart.

I said, "this won’t mean a thing come tomorrow",
and that’s exactly how I’ll make it seem
    'Cause I'm still not sleeping,
thinking I’ve crawled home from worse than this

to him, this fight that theyre having hurt him so much that hes gonna make it seem like it didnt phase him at all because it happens so many times, plus, she almost gets off at hurting him and fighting with him. like she likes it or something. to him, he's gone through worse fights with her.-- "ive crawled home from worse than this"

    So please, please (please)
I’m runnin' out of sympathy (I'm runnin' out of sympathy!)
and I never said I’d take this
I never said I'd take this lying down

He's finally had it. hes been taking all her stupid excuses and now hes standing up fo himself.

    She says
"come on, come on, let’s just get this over with”
    She says
"come on, come on, let’s just get this over with”
(I never said I’d take this lying down, well I've crawled home from worse than this, worse than this)
    She says
"come on, come on, let’s just get this over with”
    She says
    "come on, come on..."

Theyre literally fighting in this verse.. she's saying come on lets just get this over with and break up already..and he's still standing up for himself "i never said id take this lying down" and yelling at her

You always come close but this never comes easy,
    I still know everything
You always come close but you never come easy,
    I still know everything
This always come close but you never come easy,
    I still know everything
    Always come so close...
I still know everything, I still know everything, I still know...

he knows all the shit she's done behind his back. "you always come close" as in, youre always THIS close from me catching you, "but this never comes easy" means breaking up is still hard, even if i did catch you.

If it's not keepin' you up nights
    then what’s the point,
    then what’s the point,
    then what’s the point,
    then what’s the point?

im not really sure what this means...

    I'm in your room,
    is this turning you on,
    am I turning you on?

    I'm in your room,
    are you turned on?

I'm on the corner of your bed,
    I'm thinkin' maybe,
    are you turned on,
    are you turned on?

after all their fighting, this takes a quick turn and makes it seem like she's a sex freak that likes it when she gets a rise out of him. theyre just standing in his room and asking if shes turned on by him standing up for himself.

General Comment:This song reminds me of a guy I was with, it was a one time thing, but after i kinda realized i liked him, but what happened between us means nothing.People thought we were bf/gf but no, and i feel he has forgotten about me...though i still talk to him, it isn't the same. Though we would still be considered friends. So i feel like i have been used or something:S and the part of the song i like most is:

"This won't mean a thing come tomorrow and that's exactly how i'll make it seem."

    blehhhhhh

I haven't listened to this song in such a long time, i think it's been a few years haha:)
