Lyrics for A Few Minutes on Friday as interpreted by PLANES

A Few Minutes on Friday Lyrics
She kills, with foreign films, the emptiness of day to day
And I wait until the weekend comes
So I can clear this uselessness from my brain
I count the days until she arrives
Those precious minutes when she is mine
As we walk from my front door to her car
We are so close and alone
But that will disappear in a room
Filled with the warmth of other's company
There is too much company
I hide my wounded pride and stare off into the other cars
If I could just speak the words to tell her
Exactly how I feel
I count the ways that I might say it
But I know that none of them will work because
She won't feel the same
I've come this far
But I can't go through with it because the truth would hurt
too much
This hurts too much
She goes back to the west coast to drink in the sunshine
And I will stay here in these dead plains
And try to make a seed grow
And I would pray for rain
If I thought that that would help

since everybody else seems content being cliche and (sometimes) pathetic, i guess it's up to me to actually try to bring meaning to the words.

this song is of course, about a girl conor cares about coming to town and how he anticipates her coming, but when she does come, they are joined by many people either at a party or some other social function. he wishes it was just him and her, and that he could put his feelings into words, but he knows it wouldn't matter or change anything if he could, so he lets her go, and return to the 'west coast' (in all likelyhood, california) while he stays with his feelings, not knowing what to do. your little interpretation for the night, kids.

thank you scycis, while you didn't have to go about it in such a bitchy way, I do agree with you.

He loves her and she doesnt notice. Or maybe she does notice, but he knows he mine-as-well not tell her because nothing good will come of it.

This song is just beautiful. A lot of it is how I feel about my girlfriend right now, like how I'm constantly counting the days until she visits again, and the feelings of being lost and helpless when she leaves.

Even the parts where he's saying how he can't tell her something, because she won't feel the same seems like us when we fight... I know that she won't agree with me, and so I'm reluctant to say something, in case I hurt her or she hurts me with her response.

Also: To me, the line that goes "and I will stay here in these dead plains and try to make a seed grow and I would pray for rain, if I thought that that would help" means that he's trying to get over her and love another, but he just can't.

No matter what it means, this song really is beautiful...

when i first bought a collection of songs, this was a song that i always skipped for some reason. something about the first couple of lines, i didn't like. But then i really listened to it, & god.
I think it's about wanting to be with someone, & when you are it's amazing...but the pain of being apart outweighs the positives.

to me this song is about this special type of girl that is so different from the others. only a few girls could like foreign films. so this girl has to be special to her. something different about her attracted him to her. and as he sees her and finally gets to be with her other people are with them and he just wants to be with her and no one else to talk and laugh and be happy. before that the only time he would be with her is when they walk to her car and they are so close that he wants to explain everything to her and how he feels but he wont because it would hurt to much (lyrics, duh). so he just sits there with the awkwardness and he stays while she leaves without knowing how he feels. basically the story of my life. every girl I have liked has ended this way.... thats why i can't get tired of this song i listen to it like everyday and never get tired of it because its that good and it rings true to me and its so real to me. so thats it

the lyrics seem pretty self-explanatory to me. he's always anticipates when he gets to see this girl, but gets very little time alone with her ("Those precious minutes when she is mine As we walk from my front door to her car"). The rest of the time they spend around other people, but the only person he really wants to be with is her. He's got a hundred ways lined up in his head of how to tell her the way he feels, but voicing them wouldn't make any difference since she wouldn't feel the same. he's come close to just saying it, but he's too afraid of hearing the rejection ("I've come this far But I can't go through with it because the truth would hurt too much"). so he just gives up and lets her leave, staying where he is and trying to find something new, and he'd try harder if he thought it would make any difference ("And try to make a seed grow And I would pray for rain If I thought that that would help") but no one would be as good as her.
