im hot, and a boy and i like bright eyes, and i like any girl that truely can appreciate bright eyes. i was playing this song on my guitar and singing to it just now, and when i got to the part about his grandparents finding happiness, but he couldnt explain how, ialmost started crying :/

I made that my senior quote. It's a little depressing but uplifting at the same time and be being the typical emo type chick that I am I just had to use it. I knew I wanted to use one of his quotes as a senior quote but there were just so many to choose from and yet at the same time it was hard to find something that would work as a senior quote. I am in love with Conor. It sucks that he never comes around to Florida though, I'd give anything to see him live. Does anyone know any other good bands with similar lyrics/music that I could listen to?

I love the way Conor writes. It's golden. Especially the way he describes his grandparents and tells a story and really makes it evident the love he has for them. This song is just simply beautiful.

Erm people, this is not an online dating agency.

We all share out love of Bright Eyes.
I'm sick of people saying Conor is "Emo"
I mean, if like you all claim, emo is short for emotional, then we're all emo. But it's not. Or at least it never used to be. Emo was a music style that was particularly popular in the early nineties. It was short for "Emotive Rock"...And I mean, people consider bands like "my Chemical Romance" to be emo, well, If that's emo, then conor doesn't fit the picture.

But anyway, great song.
And apollo IV, thankyou for saying what we were all thinking. Or at least those of us who recognise that the site is called "Song meanings" Not "Internet Sex Partners"

I'm yet to determine the deeper meaning of this song. I think most of Conor's songs do have that kind of hidden meaning...

it's simply about the love he's witnessed between his grandparents. 'And they loved with devotion beyond what I understand', i think he really looks up to them for being able to find a love, hold onto that love, put their whole heart into it, which he cannot.

I love this song, & i love the simplicity of the lyrics.
it kind of has an underlying sadness through out, & i think when he talks about the love he witnessed with his grandparents there's a sense of admiration there, because they were able to love so completely. Like wtfyourface said.
