Just forget what you cannot replace
The sweet day is almost weightless in here
So I talk but no one can relate
To the fear I had when I was younger
Somehow I knew I'd end up empty and alone
We all accept in the same tired way
The gentle shift of continuous change
We confuse all the things that we say to ourselves
To the things we say to each other, always a lie
But at least we find some comfort for a while
So we'll start where the others left off
Get in our cars and embrace something new
To escape, we will always get caught
In the fear that what you had before was better
And you will become sick with the dream
Of knowing that you will be old (to be old)
The sweet day is almost weightless in here
So I talk but no one can relate
To the fear I had when I was younger
Somehow I knew I'd end up empty and alone
We all accept in the same tired way
The gentle shift of continuous change
We confuse all the things that we say to ourselves
To the things we say to each other, always a lie
But at least we find some comfort for a while
So we'll start where the others left off
Get in our cars and embrace something new
To escape, we will always get caught
In the fear that what you had before was better
And you will become sick with the dream
Of knowing that you will be old (to be old)

with the dream of going back

conor oberst is a god.
this song has to be my favorite, though i haven't found one yet that i've disliked.
it hits on some of our basic fears; being alone, forgetting what we know..
it's weightless and new isn't it?

I've never heard the song, but I think the lyrics are pretty honest. I love it connors subtlety and simple truthfulness in his lyrics. He is the kindof person where you just want to believe everything he says. He also does a great job of talking about depression without giving the impression that he feels sorry for himself or overdramatic. What can I say, I'm obsessed.
