It's hard to wake up
When the shades have been pulled shut
This house is haunted
It's so pathetic
It makes no sense at all
I'm ripe with things to say
The words rot and fall away
What stupid poem could fix this home
I'd read it every day

So here's your holiday
Hope you enjoy it this time
You gave it all away
It was mine
So when you're dead and gone
Will you remember this night
Twenty years now lost
It's not right

Their anger hurts my ears
Been running strong for seven years
Rather than fix the problems
They never solve them
It makes no sense at all
I see them everyday
We get along, so why can't they?
If this is what he wants
And this is what she wants
Then why is there so much pain?

So here's your holiday
Hope you enjoy it this time
You gave it all away
It was mine
So when you're dead and gone
Will you remember this night
Twenty years now lost
It's not right

So here's your holiday
Hope you enjoy it this time
You gave it all away
It was mine
So when you're dead and gone
Will you remember this night
Twenty years now lost
It's not right
It's not right
It's not right
It's not right

General Comment:Tom has said he wrote this song specifically about a time he was just sitting in his driveway, and his family all fell apart on that one day. ( Urethra Chronicals II )

My Opinion:for years i liked this song. since about the age of 13, now 23, my parents have had struggles on and off... only at 23 you can see a lot more of it... It's not right....

General Comment:I actually think it is about a kid blaming himself and committing suicide because his/her parents are getting a divorce:

So here's your holiday - It was all mine - will you remember this night- etc

General Comment:My parents divorced when I was 6 or 7.
And my moms husband of like 6 years is a total douche bag.
So that's where most of the fighting comes in. My real dad and mom get a long better -.-

Anyway, I love this song <3
I can totally relate to it, and it never ceases to make me feel like I'm not alone.
(It's actually sad how many kids parents are divorced these days)
I always cry when I hear it.

General Comment:After browsing this site for many years, it was you, maggiewaggie, who made me finally make a username. I stopped reading after your first sentence. Divorce IS the theme of this song. You're an idiot.

General Comment:The song is called "Stay Together for the Kids"...so it's not a song about divorce. It's a song told from the child's point of view of parents who stay together for the kids thinking they're doing the right thing on behalf of the children, when in reality there's no hiding the unhappiness that comes with two people who can't stand each other yet stay together...it drags on and on because divorce doesn't happen, nobody can move on and everyone ends up miserable for a very long drawn out period of time.

General Comment:ok so 4 years ago my parents got a nasty divorce and im 15 this song means so much to me me and my friends made a band and this is the song we try on the most because of how much it means to me it pisses my mom off wen i play it on my guitar because she knows that it shows my feelings about her and my dad splitting up and i think about it everyday and it drives me crazy
