Lyrics for Stay Together For The Kids as interpreted by ScreamingInfidelity

Stay Together For The Kids Lyrics
It's hard to wake up
when the shades have been pulled shut
this house is haunted
it's so pathetic
it makes no sense at all
I'm ripe with things to say
the words rot and fall away
if a stupid poem could fix this home
I'd read it every day

So here's your holiday
hope you enjoy it this time
you gave it all away
it was mine
so when you're dead and gone
will you remember this night
twenty years now lost
it's not right

Their anger hurts my ears
been running strong for seven years
rather than fix the problems
they never solve them
it makes no sense at all
I see them everyday
we get along, so why can't they?
if this is what he wants
and this is what she wants
then why is there so much pain?

So here's your holiday
hope you enjoy it this time
you gave it all away
it was mine
so when you're dead and gone
will you remember this night
twenty years now lost
it's not right

So here's your holiday
hope you enjoy it this time
you gave it all away
it was mine
so when you're dead and gone
will you remember this night
twenty years now lost
it's not right
it's not right
it's not right
it's not right

in case you didn't know, this song is about divorce. it's pretty simple to figure out. even though i personally don't like blink 182 anymore since they've gone more pop than punk, i do have an appreciation for the message of this song, having seen my parents split up when i was still young. divorce is something that totally changes lives and i think blink has caught the idea very well in this song

Interesting... I kind of guessed that from the title of the song, but I could never have figured it out otherwise... Sad, but true, for children the worst thing to see is his/her parents splitting up...

even though i've never actually had my parents or anyone i know go through a divorce, this song shows the pain the children go through and it makes a lot of sense... esepcially this line
"if this is what he wants
and this is what she wants
then why is there so much pain?"
i admit, i really don't like anything blink182 post enema of the state, but this song is the only exception because it actually sort of has a message

actually i have this cool thing with this song! it's the best song of 'take off your pants...' and it's on this song my girlfriend and i kissed for the first time... Not exactly what they're singing about... But it 'd be cool if it would have the same effect on everyone!

having my parents go through a divorce, this song really hits close to home...especially the 2nd verse Their anger hurts my ears
been running strong for seven years
rather than fix the problems
they never solve them
it makes no sense at all
I see them everyday
we get along, so why can't they?
if this is what he wants
and this is what she wants
then why is there so much pain?

That shit is so true man, rock on blink...great song

OK, this song is somewhat *obviously* about divorce, just the title tells you that... but I've always believed that songs (just like any other form of art) have many interpretations, and each one of us takes them as he/she wishes... Just last night I was listening to this song and I started to cry... I'm in a sad situation right now where 2 close friends are not speaking to me, and while I was listening I suddenly realized how very sad it is not to express our true feelings, not to say what we mean, specially to those who are close to us and those who matter more than anything... We take for granted so many things, and we hurt the people that we love... and all we have to do is COMMUNICATE...

Great song, great melody, super lyrics, great band... THANKS, BLINK182!

I love the song, and how they were able to mix in the low sounds of mark and the higher sounds of tom into the song. This brings a bit of conflict into the song, as does the video. When Mark is singing the slower, lower part, the video is calm, but when Tom brings in his part, the video shakes violently, and the wind begins to blow hard. As we can see this song has a meaning for parents to think about their kids before they make any hasty decisions. The song is just awesome and one of their best. Keep it up guys.

Althought my parents are not divorced the line "Their anger hurts my ears" i could relate to. When I was little my parents used to fight all the time, but not very much anymore. Also, a close friend of mine's parents are going through a nasty divorce, so in a way I guess when ever I hear the song I always think of her, and wish her good luck in a way (in my mind) =) .

This song is great and the video clip is so awesome. Althought this song is about divorce (dah) the meaning runs deeper as to tell parents to think of the children in all aspects of their life and decision making. not just divorce.

this song really basically defines the feelings that everyone goes through with their parents divroce, my parents divorced ages ago, and i thought i had gotten over it, but when i heard this song, i seriously had to sit down for a couple of minutes and actually realise that the pain was still there. like junky whino creep said, this song really hits home, BLINK 182 are soo feakin good.

I dont think its about divorce.. when i read it i get sense that the parents that are being spoken about are still together just fighting all the time... and the parents are staying together just for the kids... the parents are always wanting a divorce but they just stay together basically... perhaps this is my opinion as this is the situation between my parents...

it's impending divorce...

this song, while good, i suppose, doesn't have that deep of lyrics. i think it's kinda sad that you people think blink 183 has deep lyrics. try system of a down or jewel or the late great savage garden or something (eclectic, i know, but i consider eclectism to be a virtue). blink 182 is funny, and should stick to the funny stuff.

i have to agree with KillOggs b/c although the song is talking about divorce, it does not mean the parents are getting into one, b/c they are 'staying together for the kids'. i too, among so many others can connect with this song on a personal level. there have been many rough times, but my parents are doing the best they can together, and it's basicly for the sake of my sister and i. i also have to say that i love blink...one of my favorite bands, and NO i dont think they have turned "pop", they have just become "popular".

while my parents never went through divorce, i can really relate to this song. my brother and cousins got really into drugs and drinking before they graduated from high school. i remember waking up at 4 am, with the cops cars outside our house. i could hear my dad and my brother fighting, while my mom cried. they still don't know that i heard all of it....

i think its about parents who always argue and the kids are really really upset. they jus want things to be the way they were. the only reason the parents are still together is "for the kids" coincidently. its definitely one of the best blink songs ever. i cried the first time i heard it... its so amazing.

this song is inspired by marks own child hood i think.
well his oparents split up when he was a kid, i think thats what makes the song really emtional and that the theme is very visual.
