Lyrics for Anthem, Pt. 2 as interpreted by ScreamingInfidelity

Anthem, Pt. 2 Lyrics
Everything has fallen to pieces,
Earth is dying help me Jesus
We need guidance, we've been misled,
young and hostile, but not stupid.

Corporate leaders, politicians,
kids can't vote, adults elect them
laws that rule the school and workplace,
signs that caution, sixteen's unsafe.

We really need to see this through,
we never wanted to be abused
We'll never give up, it's no use,
if we're fucked up you're to blame

Let this train wreck burn more slowly,
kids are victims in this story
Drown our youth with usless warnings,
teenage rules they're fucked and boring

We really need to see this through,
we never wanted to be abused
We'll never give up, it's no use,
if we're fucked up you're to blame

Everything has fallen to pieces,
Everything has fallen to pieces,
Everything has fallen to pieces,
Everything has fallen to pieces,
Everything has fallen to ...

We really need to see this through,
we never wanted to be abused,
We'll never give up, it's no use,
if we're fucked up you're to blame!

haha yeahh i don't think its about the way their parents brought them up. i think its more about how everything is seen. like seeing stuff on tv and whatnot with the high techonology and shit. you know, teenagers get influenced easily.
they may think its their parent's fault but its actually they themselves. they're actually pampering themselves.
cause i mean, if you think its all fucked up that 'kids can't vote, adults elect them' and that we're 'young and hostile, but not stupid' then i think we should SHOW them that we really meant that and do stuff like standing up for rights and do vote during the election and stuff but not do stuff that is bad and all.

so yeahhhh. anyways, i REALLY like the starting of the song in the latest cd when tom says
'you smell my what? there's a kid in my class who got a boner in pe in high class who was wearing sweatpants and its really embarrassing so this song goes out to him'
hahaha he said that or something of that sort

Analysis:
Wendyclear is right, this song isn't "Let's blame my problems on my parents." Nope, it's directed at adults in general. It's about our misguided generation, and how people think that it's our fault on how we behave. blink is saying that the blame is to be shifted from ourselves to the generation before us, as a whole. That our nation is in a state of helplessness. And that maybe (God forbid!) it isn't entirely the teenagers fault. Maybe we're not some hormoned-poisoned generation that should take the blame ENTIRELY for our problems.

My own personal views...
Last year I did a project where you pick a song that describes you or your feelings in someway. I picked this song, mainly for it's political and social views. "Corporate leaders, politicians, kids can't vote, adults elect them. laws that rule the school and workplace, signs that caution, sixteen's unsafe."
I do agree that we should take some of the blame for our messed up generation, however we should not take all the blame. Personally, I think a lot of the problems (if not all) result from the media and our society. Just my own personal thoughts. And I have a feeling blink would agree with me on that one!

I think it's how some (or a lot) of adults act like they're all high and mighty and perfect and if there are youths that are messed up, they act all innocent like none of it is their fault and think that they are crazy and out of control but they don't really try to understand why because they think it's the all the kids' fault but if you look at the hectic world and how some adults act or the 'role models' and the abuse (both physical and verbally or mentally) that goes on then you can't lay all the blame on them and that all the adults' noses are clean and I think it could also be commenting (though not as directly) with this idea but in terms of who has authority vs general people.

blink 182 aren't broken up, that was a rumor started by Dave Navaro (i think that's how you spell his surname). Dave (who is also the guitarist for some band) admit that what he said wasn't true, he'd been misinformed and apologized

This song is about how kids have absolutly zero power in todays world. parents are given god-like authority over there childrens lives and politics is totally blind and uncaring toward the wants, needs and ideas of anyone under the age of twenty. not only that, but ("Signs that caution sixteens unsafe") kids are thought of as dangerous delinquents whether it is true or not. therefore, don't blame shit in the world on "those damn kids and the way they act these days" if the world is fucked up, the adult are to blame, because kid just don't have enough influence to fuck the world up.

this song is about stupid then-twenty five year olds pretending they were in high school, because when they were their albums were great, but now that they aren't, their albums suck, and this album (take off your pants and jacket) sucks and so does this song.

"My favourite song ever. Blink-182 needs to do more songs like this, then again, they can do whatever they want. Tom (who wrote the lyrics) said he was proud of this song and that it was about how things in the world had been screwed up by the adults in charge and how this was having effects on younger generations who were falling in the same traps. If the people in power weren't such fucking idiots then they'd give kids way more freedom and let them help them solve problems so that the world wouldn't dig itself into much deeper shit. Kids/teens deserve much more than they get."

I LOVE YOU.
