I have climbed the highest mountains
I have run through the fields
Only to be with you
Only to be with you

I have run, I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with you

But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for

I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing in her fingertips
It burned like fire
This burning desire

I have spoke with the tongue of angels
I have held the hand of a devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone

But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for

I believe in the Kingdom Come
Then all the colors will bleed into one
Bleed into one
But yes, I'm still running

You broke the bonds
And you loosed the chains
Carried the cross of my shame, of my shame
You know I believe it

But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for

But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for

Some good answers above. My two cents..

I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For?

1st it is obvious that the soul represented in this song is someone who has faith (trusts) in Jesus Christ. "You carried the cross And my shame (sin) You know I believe it"

So it is not a question of faith, but rather "what" he/she is "looking for" through their faith. "what" is a vast topic open to interpretation and I have one theory to share.

If a church wanted to criticize Bono for writing these lyrics, would they also criticize Paul The Apostle for "looking" to obtain something?

Is it possible in the book of Philippians Chapter 3 that Paul still had "not found" or "taken hold of" what he was looking for?"

    Read Paul's writing:

    Philippians 3:10
"that I may gain Christ, and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ–the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. NOT THAT I HAVE ALREADY OBTAINED ALL THIS, OR HAVE ALREADY BEEN MADE PERFECT, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I DO NOT CONSIDER MYSELF YET TO HAVE TAKEN HOLD OF IT. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus"

This passage is not an indication by Paul of doubt or uncertainty, but of "intense involvement". Two words you could use to describe Bono and his lyrics, could you not? :)

    2 more similar parallels:

    2 Corinthians 13:11 Paul said:

Aim for perfection…. listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.

1 Corinthians 13 Love never fails….but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. NOW WE SEE BUT A POOR REFLECTION AS IN A MIRROR; THEN WE SHALL SEE FACE TO FACE. NOW I KNOW IN PART; THEN I SHALL KNOW FULLY, EVEN AS I AM FULLY KNOWN And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

"Love" hmmmm Now that's another subject..... THEE Greatest commandment...

    "In the name of Love"
