"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
Turn it inside out so I can see
The part of you that's drifting over me
And when I wake you're, you're never there
And when I sleep you're, you're everywhere
You're everywhere
Just tell me how I got this far
Just tell me why you're here and who you are
'Cause every time I look
You're never there
And every time I sleep
You're always there
'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
I'm not alone
I recognize the way you make me feel
It's hard to think that
You might not be real
I sense it now, the water's getting deep
I try to wash the pain away from me
Away from me
'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
I'm not alone
I am not alone
Oh whoa, oh, oh
And when I touch your hand
It's then I understand
The beauty that's within
It's now that we begin
You always light my way
I hope there never comes a day
No matter where I go
I always feel you so
'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I catch my breath
It's you I breathe
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
You're in everyone I see
So tell me
Do you see me?
The part of you that's drifting over me
And when I wake you're, you're never there
And when I sleep you're, you're everywhere
You're everywhere
Just tell me how I got this far
Just tell me why you're here and who you are
'Cause every time I look
You're never there
And every time I sleep
You're always there
'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
I'm not alone
I recognize the way you make me feel
It's hard to think that
You might not be real
I sense it now, the water's getting deep
I try to wash the pain away from me
Away from me
'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
I'm not alone
I am not alone
Oh whoa, oh, oh
And when I touch your hand
It's then I understand
The beauty that's within
It's now that we begin
You always light my way
I hope there never comes a day
No matter where I go
I always feel you so
'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I catch my breath
It's you I breathe
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
You're in everyone I see
So tell me
Do you see me?

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
I think its about the man of her dreams, who she hasn't met yet, and she keeps looking for him.. but he's only in her dreams. Possibly... he died/doesn't like her back/he doesn't exist...
Now.. for a mini-rant... Music is only what it means to you. Just because a person believes this song is about God, doesn't mean it isn't. I am in no way religious. I believe in some higher power, and I respect that.. but this isn't about my religious background. Its about music. Songs that have multiple possible meanings sell the best. Why? Because if its written to where it can be about a guy, or about God.. then you satisfy more people, and sell more records. End. Of. Story.
It happens to the best of us.. We fall totally in love/infatuation.. She falls for a guy and in reality he is never with her but whenever she is dreaming He is always in her dreams
"I recognize the way you make me feel It's hard to think that you might not be real I sense it now, the water's getting deep I try to wash the pain away from me Away from me "
She recognizes itsjust a dream and she is going way over herself.. and with hat realisation it i hurting her that he is not real or he just doesnt love her so she tries to rub it off..
"And when I touch your hand It's then I understand The beauty that's within It's now that we begin You always light my way I hope there never comes a day No matter where I go I always feel you so"
she just accepts him as a part of her and just within and its like she will always keep him there to make her feel WHOLE
CUTE SONG and nice beat.. the lyris rock too MILLY
I am fully convinced this song is about God. All the lyrics indicate God to me, but a few stand out. Such as "You're everything I know that makes me believe I'm not alone." Much more than that, though, is "I recognize the way you make me feel. It's hard to think that you might not be real." If she's singing about a guy, this makes no sense. Finally, it says "And when I catch my breath it's you I breath." This also makes sense with God, but not with just a regular person. In any case, I love this song.
I didn't really look at it that way until now, but that makes more sense than any of the meanings on here. I also think the line "You always light my way..." HAS to refer to God. Thank you for putting this in perspective. I am a very religious Roman Catholic, the way Christianity should be. I appreciate that you have said this, as I haven't really thought about it before. This is the best meaning for any song I have ever heard.
Obviously this song is about a guy not god!
wayla, calm down. this is an opinion page. everyone has a right to their opinion. please don't get offended. Semper is not the only one how has thought of God while listening to this song.
by that logic, when she says "and when i touch your hand, it's then i understand" HAS to refer to a boy, and not god. so you religo's can't really pass that off as "proof" it's about god. also, dancer, get over yourself. you think your way is the way it should be, when everyone else thinks their way is the way. so logically all of your points are moot.
I thought that this song was about God the first time I took a look at the lyrics. I feel like it's kind of just obvious.
@SemperXP I've always thought the same thing, but it sort of falls apart at the end when she asks "So tell me, do you see me?"
@SemperXP It\'s possible, by the way isn\'t it cool to get a reply from 20 years in the future? Your comment was made in 2002 I\'m in 2022 lol!!\r\n
this is actually michelle's view of the song. Branch: I guess I could never do "Behind the Music," because none of the songs I write are about personal experiences. I mostly write love songs because I think it's the one thing that everyone can relate to. You see it in movies, in novels ... I like to keep my songs open-ended so people can listen to it and say, "Oh, I think it means this. I've been through that." Instead of having it be about, "I dumped my boyfriend. This is what the song is about." Then it's like, "I don't get it. This has never happened to me. I'm not Michelle." "Everywhere" started out as this simple acoustic love song. When you first like somebody, every little thing reminds you of that person. They're everywhere, in every little thing.
Michelle! :)! Obviously she likes this guy and he's everywhere, but he doesn't know her.
i think that michelle is trying to say, she cant believe what shes found, that its too good to be true.
not gonna lie, easily one of my favorite pop songs :) even though the yellow card version is very good, i think Michelle's voice can't really be topped. Anyway, i think it's a guy she sees somewhere and can;t stop thinking about him btu he doesn;t knwo she even exists. in the end, they do somehow get together and it's totally true love. haha maybe a little optimistic, but cute
I love this songs.. It's about needing and loving someone but he doesn't know her or even care about her.. It's a really great song!
This song simply means a girl wanting a guy, but the girl doesn't even know the guy, and the guy hasn't even seen him.
She wants a guy, and he doesn't see her..but at the end, she is wondering if he can even see her...
