What's the furthest place from here?
It hasn't been my day for a couple years.
What's a couple more?
And if I go, don't forget the one good thing I almost did.
I learned your name without words.
I used my eyes, not my hands.
What's the closest you can come to an almost total wreck and still walk away,
All limbs intact?
And when I go, you'll be there crying out, begging me.
I won't hear.
I'll just go fast into this night on broken legs.
A near miss or a close call?
I keep a room at the hospital.
I scratch my accidents into the wall.
I couldn't wait to breathe your breath.
I cut in line,
I bled to death.
I got to you, there was nothing left.
What's the meanest you can be to the one you claim to love
And still smile to your new found friends?
In the same confusing breath,
You pull away and draw me in.
I wanted you. You wanted more.
I built this life and now it's mine.

My Interpretation:By Accident Prone, Accident is a metaphore for bad relationships and well, thus he is prone to bad relationships.

With the physical pain from accidents it refers to the pain of the relationships and the comments of reservation using eyes not hands etc leads me to believe that its the good guy prone to bad relationships that have left a number of emotional scars in their life (scratching accidents into the wall).

General Comment:He feels like shit because of a breakup or rejection or betrayal. He really liked her "I couldn't wait to breathe your breath." He hoped she would return the feeling, but "there was nothing left" and she wanted more from him than he could give. In the end, he learns it's his life and he doesn't need her. "I built this life and now it's mine."

General Comment:I'm not really sure what this song is about but i always thought that maybe he had a certain amount of room in him for a certain number of accidents and then he meets this girl and by the time he gets to her he's out of accidents and he's trying to make it work but it's confusing and he doesn't know how to sustain it but i dunno

General Comment:SCRATCH MY ASS AND DANCE INTO THE WALL! lololol. but seriously.

Well said to skivvies and drewlerman.

I feel like this song is not only about the end of a relationship but also the persona feeling as if he/she (it really isn't gender specific) tried everything they possibly could to no end; he is probably still dealing with the aftermath of this relationship because he can never really understand why things went wrong. He is lamenting the past ("I wanted you, you wanted more") and feeling spiteful about how much he sacrificed for this pointless relationship. The persona's life now is the sum of all the accidents he has etched permanently into his memory (scratched into the wall), and his silent misery has become the defining element of his life, in effect the only thing he really feels in control of anymore, the one thing that belongs to him: "I built this life and now it's mine". I suppose this could be likened to a self-mutilator, who feels like they have lost control of the rest of their life; so they hurt themselves to feel in control of something. And this depression has become such a permanent thing that he's keeping a room at the hospital.

    the end.

General Comment:So Brand New did a pretty crappy cover of this song, so I looked it up and this version is so fucking good. It got me into Jawbreaker. I love this song, I can relate to so many parts of it.

General Comment:romance. just one accident after another. "a near miss or a close call (there never just what you want, theyre just barely what you didnt), keep a room at the hospital (this has become a routine for me), scratch my accidents into the wall (i wish i could learn from my past mistakes, you think i wouldve by now), couldnt wait to breath your breath (it seemd so right from afar, the grass is always greener, a mirage, its just sand underneath, the thrill of the chase so to speak), cut in line i bled to death (i rushed to get there, and when i had i had given up so much), got to you and there was nothing left (and i realized it was just a crush, a fling, a quick thing. i got to you and there was no love left"

General Comment:My boyfriend and I got into a fight and he said this song related to how he felt. I must agree with what skivvies said, I'm the girl who took him for granted no matter how much he did, I'd still want more. He has a hard time leaving but it's true he still can because how bad it can get. I've never heard this song before, but I wish I could.

overall i just think it's about this guy who has been in a terrible relationship, and keeps repeating the same mistakes, making his situation worse. he does a lot for this girl, and no matter how much he does she still pushes him away. and when they get in fights he finds it hard to believe he is still okay afterwards, and when he leaves she will be begging him to come back, but he will just ignore it and continue on with his feelings ravaged.
he put himself through so much for this girl and after all he did she still took him for granted. the more she pushes away, the more he tries to get her back. and no matter what he does she still wants something more. and that he put himself in this situation, and now he has to deal with everything it brings."
