What's the furthest place from here?
It hasn't been my day for a couple years.
What's a couple more?
And if I go, don't forget the one good thing I almost did.
I learned your name without words.
I used my eyes, not my hands.
What's the closest you can come to an almost total wreck and still walk away,
All limbs intact?
And when I go, you'll be there crying out, begging me.
I won't hear.
I'll just go fast into this night on broken legs.
A near miss or a close call?
I keep a room at the hospital.
I scratch my accidents into the wall.
I couldn't wait to breathe your breath.
I cut in line,
I bled to death.
I got to you, there was nothing left.
What's the meanest you can be to the one you claim to love
And still smile to your new found friends?
In the same confusing breath,
You pull away and draw me in.
I wanted you. You wanted more.
I built this life and now it's mine.
It hasn't been my day for a couple years.
What's a couple more?
And if I go, don't forget the one good thing I almost did.
I learned your name without words.
I used my eyes, not my hands.
What's the closest you can come to an almost total wreck and still walk away,

With the physical pain from accidents it refers to the pain of the relationships and the comments of reservation using eyes not hands etc leads me to believe that its the good guy prone to bad relationships that have left a number of emotional scars in their life (scratching accidents into the wall).
I bled to death.
I think these lies are about self injury
Well said to skivvies and drewlerman.
I feel like this song is not only about the end of a relationship but also the persona feeling as if he/she (it really isn't gender specific) tried everything they possibly could to no end; he is probably still dealing with the aftermath of this relationship because he can never really understand why things went wrong. He is lamenting the past ("I wanted you, you wanted more") and feeling spiteful about how much he sacrificed for this pointless relationship. The persona's life now is the sum of all the accidents he has etched permanently into his memory (scratched into the wall), and his silent misery has become the defining element of his life, in effect the only thing he really feels in control of anymore, the one thing that belongs to him: "I built this life and now it's mine". I suppose this could be likened to a self-mutilator, who feels like they have lost control of the rest of their life; so they hurt themselves to feel in control of something. And this depression has become such a permanent thing that he's keeping a room at the hospital.
the end.

overall i just think it's about this guy who has been in a terrible relationship, and keeps repeating the same mistakes, making his situation worse. he does a lot for this girl, and no matter how much he does she still pushes him away. and when they get in fights he finds it hard to believe he is still okay afterwards, and when he leaves she will be begging him to come back, but he will just ignore it and continue on with his feelings ravaged.
he put himself through so much for this girl and after all he did she still took him for granted. the more she pushes away, the more he tries to get her back. and no matter what he does she still wants something more. and that he put himself in this situation, and now he has to deal with everything it brings."
