Every breath you take and every move you make
Every bond you break, every step you take, I'll be watching you
Every single day and every word you say
Every game you play, every night you stay, I'll be watching you

Oh, can't you see you belong to me
How my poor heart aches with every step you take

Every move you make, every vow you break
Every smile you fake, every claim you stake, I'll be watching you

Since you've gone I've been lost without a trace
I dream at night, I can only see your face
I look around but it's you I can't replace
I feel so cold and I long for your embrace
I keep crying, "Baby, baby, please"

Oh, can't you see you belong to me
How my poor heart aches with every step you take

Every move you make and every vow you break
Every smile you fake, every claim you stake, I'll be watching you
Every move you make, every step you take, I'll be watching you

I'll be watching you
Every breath you take and every move you make
Every bond you break, every step you take (I'll be watching you)
Every single day and every word you say
Every game you play, every night you stay (I'll be watching you)
Every move you make, every vow you break
Every smile you fake, every claim you stake (I'll be watching you)
Every single day and every word you say
Every game you play, every night you stay (I'll be watching you)

Every breath you take and every move you make
Every bond you break, every step you take (I'll be watching you)
Every single day and every word you say
Every game you play, every night you stay (I'll be watching you)
Every move you make, every vow you break
Every smile you fake, every claim you stake (I'll be watching you)
Every single day and every word you say
Every game you play, every night you stay (I'll be watching you)

My Interpretation:Sting, said in an interview, that he thought it was od people choose this song at weddings, but I think it's bechause the song could also be interpreted as the jealous love of God watching us, as well as the jealous love between couples.

General Comment:I thought it was pretty much accepted that the song is a spiteful rant aimed at an ex-lover by someone who feels bitter and aggrieved about the break-up. The narrator is threatening to make her new life a misrey with his jealousy and clinginess. Sting later said he regretted it and wrote "If you love somebody set them free" to make amends.

The best example of this kind of sarcastic and bitter outpouring is of course Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone". Sting is a pussycat by comparison.

General Comment:I heard that Sting wrote this song after having a stalker and is about that situation or the act of stalking somebody.

General Comment:Sillybunny i have no intention of causing an arguement with you but why have you flooded a vast majority of police and sting songs with extracts from one obscure source to another. Although it is important to have fact on hand to support your views you scaresly seem to express any view without first cross referencing it from your sources. When Sting writes his songs he may have an aim as to what effect he wants to have on listeners but a unique, individual effect on the person is what he wants. Sting intends to use the power of music to help people clear personal demons and change their views to more a empathic and understanding stance. Whether or not his audience share his original inspiration for writing his music is irrelevent, just as long as it has an effect and the effect is positive. That the whole nature of individuality and indeed the reason why interpretation sites such as this exist. Not to discover the hard facts behind something but to allow music to have a unique effect upon you.

General Comment:It was recorded by The Police but written by Sting and Andy Summers who provided the distinctive guitar riff.

On the stalker theory, I’ve heard from some mind-melder pretending to be an angel who asserts this is not only true but that he [can I help but laugh?] really wrote the song—whispering the words to the songwriter in the middle of the night. Leaving the song on the sideboard for a number of years, he retrieved his option and proceeded to stalk his friend, who he claims was alternately delighted and dismayed over his antics. Chances are this is complete hooey but you never know.

It’s amusing to see the casual hint of distain that accompanies the idea of this being a stalker song. If all songs were gleeful little wisps of happy hearts, blooming bouquets and dancing cherubs, music could become mundane and tedious. Thank heavens for little spurts of quirky notoriety—it’s part of what makes a song memorable twenty years later.
