I believe this is one of the best songs about summer: it deals with love, parties, and sunny afternoon shit to do.

"1996 1997 1998 we're all waiting for the year 2000" I love that line, even though its now 2003 because that is how I always feel during summer, excited--waiting for something big to happen.

"just the smell on the summer can make me fall in love"
ditto to the other post, summer's like that, it's something in the air, its the best, or perhaps the only time to fall in love

Everytime I hear these lyrics it brings back memories of my senior year summer, going to parties, all your friends there, drinking, being free.

These are summer afternoons, one of the things that make life worth living--chilling, swimming, smoking buds.

Great song, one I think many Modest Mouse fans overlook to often, one of my favorites.

i dont know stefanjoh, anybody who catches the smallest decibal of this song is amazed and wants to start dancing to it. Anybody who thinks this song sucks should be tortured and thrown into the firey depts of the black underworld

wow, amazing song. I always dance when it says "Dance dance dance and go crazy" it's soo catchy, and it sums up summer so well. "Just the smell of the summer can make me fall in love"

ok, I do like this song but I am never in the mood for it when I hear it because it is very upbeat. usually I listen to this CD when I am driving and contemplating the trees. The first line is my favorite. It makes me laugh every time. Doesn't it sound like something a crazy/drunk friend would say to you before embarking on an adventure?

this songs lyrics are very simplistic in terms of there content compared to most other Modest Mouse songs but still as moving as most.
it seems to be a song very personal to Isaac and he seems to be referencing his personal nostalgia inducing memories. it seems to simply be about being young, romantic and about beauty.
very upbeat and a masterpiece in songwriting, not the reason began to love Modest Mouse but a reason to make me love them more.

Meaning:

Issac Brock Reflects on three summers. Did he enjoy it? he's waiting for the year 2000. He's erratic self "dances goes crazy". He tells us that "just the smell of summer can make me fall in love" then describes someone who is the best at what he's doing. Partying. Then he describes things that really aren't that fun (going to the 7-11, swimming in irregation canals, etc.) but hey, it's summer so screw you.

This is a solid track from the EP The Fruit That Ate Itself. It has a similar sounding melody to Lounge (Closing Time); the guitar sounds quite similar. This is just a fun, entertaining track from MM. I like the line,

"she's the party queen and she's in party heaven
her clock is stuck on late
got a first name basis at 7-11."

Who doesn't know these faceless hordes of people that have a first name basis at their local 7-11 due to countless nights of strolling in there after consecutive hours of partying away nights they won't remember; only in their dreams.
