Ohio
Ohio
Ohio
Ohio
Ohio

Took a bus straight to Baltimore
On the way he took a nap
Dropped off a note that said, "I'm giving this note back"
P.S. There's a lot going on underneath
There's roots, there's pipes, there's drainage leaks
You're on, you're wrong

Ohio
Ohio
Ohio
Ohio
Ohio

Truly sorry, I see clearly
Calmly crashing, I pace faster than anyone
Hinges rusting, they swing louder than anything
Truly lonely, this place is flatter than it seems

I'm upset and I leave the doors open wide
Our hearts are used up, cracked and dry
Pulled the scabs off of regrets
We haven't learned to read our conscience yet

Truly sorry, I see clearly
Hardy hoping, I spend it all on game machines
Calmly crashing, I pace and I figure out again
One hand clapping, awake but napping

Rows of lights to illuminate lines
Why don't they turn them off and let us see night
Drove crazed, grooming my lies
You can't look in on one way eyes

Ohio
Ohio
Ohio
Ohio
Ohio
Ohio
Ohio
Ohio
Ohio
Ohio

My Interpretation:Isaac Brock earlier in his life would drive from Washington Sate to eastern cities such as "Baltimore" and Boston, ect. and I think this song, a lot of his songs, and this album in particular ,"This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About", expresses the long drives. During these monotonous drives, he would have nothing to think about. This caused his depression to grow. I think these songs have these influences on them. and a cool little thing, at the beginning of Ohio, isaac sings that he dropped off a note in Baltimore saying "I'm giving this note back." and if you think about it, for the not to say that, he would have had to gotten it in washington from baltimore. so you can trace it back and forth in an endless cycle. this is neat little way of isaac expressing how he went back and forth so much. Just giving my 2 cents worth. MM fan for life. Peace guys

General Comment:I knew I'd heard this somewhere before, and found proof!
The way "Ohio" is sung in this song, as "O-ha-i-yo" is Japanese for "Good Morning".

Just adds another cool little bit of up-so-late-it's-early imagery to this song already laden with it.

Lyric Correction:"Pulled the scabs off of regrets,
We haven't learned to EAT our conscience yet."

He definitely doesn't say "read our conscience yet." Eating your conscience, as in, disregarding / ridding yourself of a conscience. It makes more sense in the context of the song, and the album, and the way Isaac Brock writes.

General Comment:This song seems to be about amphetamines
"Calmly crashing, I pace faster than anyone"
"Pulled the scabs off of regrets"
    "awake but napping"
"Calmly crashing, I pace and I figure out again"
"Hinges rusting, they swing louder than anything"
Just saying it makes a lot of sense.

My Interpretation:I don't think that the speaker really has that much of a hatred for Ohio. As some have said, Ohio is just a tragic scape-goat.

Having just taken a depressing trip through Ohio, my spin on thse lyrics is that the speaker is taking a long road trip whilst taking a hard look on his life. Going back and forth from the regrets in his life to the observations of society's faults, the lyrics are a very good collection of ideas, that are actually somewhat related. The speaker is admitting that his life obviously is very lonely, so much that he will not accept anything (including everything he sees on this road trip) as a distraction from his real life problems. This song takes observations that our society cares too much about our luxeries and are making ourselves, dare I say "soulless" (trying to eat our concience).

I really do love how Isaac has taken these feelings of depression and emptiness and puts them into lyrics how one might never see them, but it makes such a good point. My favorite lines include "pulling scabs off of regrets". Even the simple "Truly sorry, I see clearly" which really shows how we can't really understand life while never having tons of problems. Don't worry, this pain makes you a better person, or at least I hope to god for my own sake.

P.S. I think the one way eyes are headlights on the highway at night because you cannot see who you are driving past with their blinding lights, which gets you thinking.
