So long to this cold, cold part of the world
So long to this bone-bleached part of the world
So long to this salt-soaked part of the world
I stepped down as president of Antarctica
Can't blame me
Don't blame me
So long to this sad, sad part of the world
So long
So long to this bone-bleached part of the world
So long to this salt-soaked part of the world
I stepped down as president of Antarctica
Can't blame me
Don't blame me
So long to this sad, sad part of the world
So long

"So long to this cold, cold part of the world"
so long to this cold part of the world; so long to antarctica being cold.
"So long to this bone bleached part of the world"
imagine a picture of dead animals. there will be few animals left if antarctica isn't cold anymore.
"So long to this salt soaked part of the world"
freshwater frozen in antarctica melting into our salt water oceans diluting them.
"I stepped down as president of Antarctica
Can't blame me, don't blame me"
Antarctica is so f:-)ed that even the president steps down. Earth will really become a sad sad world if this ever becomes reality.
Doesn't want the blame for running, because the life was in a bad existence either way.
"I stepped down as president of Antarctica
Can't blame me, don't blame me, don't"
Because Antarctica is the "cold part of the world", being the president of it would mean one is the most depressed or coldest person in the world. Isaac wants to step down, but he feels an obligation to stay in his state of mind, because leaving the cold part might be leaving some people who either cause him pain or he associates with pain.
"Can't blame me"
He reasons that you can't really blame someone for trying to leave their depression.
"Don't blame me"
He starts to feel afraid of what he's trying to do. The people he's trying to leave, and the depression he has become so accustomed to.
"Don't..."
He's genuinely scared at this point.
I sympathize with this song more than anything.
when he says
"I stepped down as president of Antarctica
Can't blame me, don't blame me, dont
So long to this sad, sad part of the world"
maybe it just means he used to lead or be in control, but what he was leading or in control of was 'cold/bone bleached/salt soaked' and barren and he could see he was never going to be able to take it anywhere good because it was barren and cold and infertile.
so he decided to step down as president of this cold part, and just drift around without the responsibilities of president or leadership. like he's saying nothing matters anyway, i've given up trying, i'm just going to go where life takes me now; talking about a change in his way of life.
and he's saying we shouldnt blame him for it because of the kind of hopeless place it was to lead; it had no positive future anyway.
But suicide or a hopeful escape seem to fit just as well, and i havnt made my mind up about my personal interpretation. Just chucking this interpretation out there..
Quitting can be many things. Walking away. Dieing. Commiting suicide. Or just becoming numb like ice. So cold the fires of hate cant even melt you. LIke a zomibe not alive but deserves to be dead. Turing cold like ice

I also live in Alaska, but I think it's also a very happy place. It's very liberating and unlike any other place in the world so I believe you should appreciate it. But at the same time, I could see where you are coming from all to clearly. Alaska is a very, very dark and cold place for the majority of the year. During the hardest months (such as December, January, and Febuary) depression sometimes does take a hold over you and this song just suits that sad, sad feeling so well.
