Lyrics for Aerials as interpreted by F4RiD

Aerials Lyrics
Life is a waterfall,
We're one in the river,
And one again after the fall.

Swimming through the void
We hear the word,
We lost ourselves,
But we find it all?

Cause we are the ones that want to play,
Always want to go,
But you never want to stay,

And we are the ones that want to chose,
Always want to play,
But you never want to lose.

Aerials, in the sky,
When you lose small mind,
You free your life.

Life is a waterfall,
We drink from the river,
Then we turn around and put up our walls.

Swimming through the void
We hear the word,
We lost ourselves,
But we find it all?

Cause we are the ones that want to play,
Always want to go,
But you never want to stay,

And we are the ones that want to chose,
Always want to play,
But you never want to lose.

Aerials, in the sky,
When you lose small mind,
You free your life.
Aerials, so up high,
When you free your eyes,
Eternal prize.
Aerials, in the sky,
When you lose small mind,
You free your life.
Aerials, so up high,
When you free your eyes,
Eternal prize.

At the PoA tour Daron (Guitarist) said that this is about the stupidity of the world. They fucking rocked this song live too.

its certianly about life in that sense, i think the 'one in the river and one again after the fall' is a reference to the after life. just opening up your mind, breaking down the walls you've put up, 'lose the small mind' and gain happyness in life.

At the Big Day Out tour in Auckland, New Zealand, Surj introduced this song with "this.. song.. means... NOTHING.."
He really did p[ut emphasis on the 'nothing'

you know what acid does? frees your mind of inhibitions, "knocking down the walls" if you will. you'll know what this song means when you trip from track 1 to 14.

I think this song is just about different groups of people being segregated and how stupid and meaningless that is.

This song has an effect, and emphasis, on life. It seems to speak about the cruelty, unfairness, and selfishness not only of life but of the human mind. Very cool. My favorite SOAD song.

I've always heard the lyrics as more of a warning about closemindedness
"Aerials, in the sky,
When you lose small mind,
You free your life.
Aerials, so up high,
When you free your eyes,
Eternal prize. "
these lines here - these seem to be the pivitol lines, its about freeing your mind, opening "your third eye" if you will (Tool reference there for anyone keeping score ;-) ).
I suppose it could also be about drugs - and using them to truely see the world for how it is.

This is the best song on Toxicity. Plain and simple. The lyrics, and the music to support it is just mind boggeling.
THis band ROCKS
Listen and Feel.
Music is the most important thing in life.

Well, Daron has said an in interview that this song was written about children how are mentally disabled and the beauty of how they see the world ("Life is a waterfall...") and also of how they are often mistreated ("We are the ones that want to chose/Always want to play but you never want to lose"). Also the reason that Serj says it's about "nothing" is cuz they still want the song to be open for anyone's interpretation...either way, it's a kick ass song

Life is a waterfall, in come a system, and dum come the rest oftha allll.
To rise above, Elevation. To transcend beyond material. To see above the river, to not reach the fall. You selfish, heartless, ignorant, media-oriented shits!

to me it's about spiritual enlightenment.

life as a waterfall.
The holistic nature of the world. The oneness.

Swimming thru the void we hear the word.
the first part speaking of meditation. "hearing the word" refers to what a lot of religions consider divine revelation. Thru meditation you hear an 'audible' source, which is the word which guides you to enlightenment. (pretty eastern)

We lose ourselves but we find it all?
we lose our egocentric selfish nature, and unable to put what was gained it into words, 'we find it all' is almost asked as a question.

we are the ones..
shows egocentric and prideful nature of 'normal' people.

Aerials could be OBE(out of body experiences) if considered at face value, or just the accent to enlightenment, The loss of the closed mind and 'eternal prize'.

I think it says that we are all drones letting all these iseas that other people force fed us control the human mind...they say eternal salvation is in the afterlife, if you "live a proper life" what the hell is proper??? They are saying, free your mind of all these ideals that we have been exposed to as being "right" over our lifetimes, and just live our life with the open mind...and in that, we shall have true salvation...and the stupid people Daron speaks of this song being about, are the ones that choose to live their life by other's beliefs hoping they shall reach salvation in the afterlife...christ people, live your life for now...do everything you can, and be OPEN

Seems to me, be this an armenian folk song or not, that when applied to current life in the western world it is reference to how everyone wants to do their own thing but don't want to face consequences. We always want to play but never want to loce, always want to go but never want to stay could be a reference to the way we live in a fast paced world, we always want something new but we get bored with things all to fact and devalue the important things in life. When you lose small mind you free your lives could mean that when we let go of things that are trivial and have to true impact on our basic existance and then can we be free to live. We always want to know things but we eventually for get because simply knowing something doesn't mean you learn from it. Oh well, I have a phone call so my train of thought derailed.
