One chance to show your face.
This one shot all you get.
Pass by your one good thing.
Lift your head back shoot and chase.
Never hear you laugh like that, so full.
Not since you were nine.
[Chorus]
Unsettled, severing
Always severing old ties.
One last good-bye
May last the rest of your life.
Learn your restricted ropes.
Paint a cross on your left hand.
One good thing signed away
And with it your only hope.
Attention focused on today.
So quiet slip behind my back.
[Chorus]
One way trip can work both ways.
Loose ends kept untied make better friends.
The things you buy may someday leave you.
Can you say full ride?
I can still see you around.
(repeat)

and for those who asked 'paint a cross on your left hand' if the song is about boozing, then that's either being underage thus getting 'Xed' on your hand(s) so the bartender knows not to sell you booze. or it's at a kegger to show you've paid already...
to me that line sounds really spiteful. i imagine it to be the ex girlfreind of a boy. the girl is moving on from him and having fun and chatting with sum other guy. And now he's thinking fo how he wish he could still do that and be with her, reliving the moment he used to have with her.
just my ideas...
I think nine should be mine. then it would be like he's saying, you havnt been this happy since you were mine. obiouslt they went out, and she was eally happy, then it ended and she became sad, and now she has found something new, and is happy again.
if you get what i mean
Oh well, that was my opinion. It' still a beautiful song!
