Lyrics for 3rd Planet as interpreted by rojazz

3rd Planet Lyrics
Everything that keeps me together is falling apart
I've got this thing that I consider my only art of fucking people over

My boss just quit the job
Says he's going out to find blind spots and he'll do it

The third planet is sure that they're being watched
By an eye in the sky that can't be stopped
When you get to the promised land
Your going to shake that eye's hand

Your heart felt good
It was dripping pitch and made of wood
And your hands and knees
Felt cold and wet on the grass to me

Well, outside naked, shivering, looking blue
From the cold sunlight that's reflected off the moon
Baby cum angels fly around you
Reminding you we used to be three and not just two
And that's how the world began
And that's how the world will end

A third had just been made and we were swimming in the
water
Didn't know then, was it a son, was it a daughter?
When it occurred to me that the animals are swimming
Around in the water in the oceans in our bodies
And another had been found, another ocean on the planet
Given that our blood is just like the Atlantic
And how

Well, the universe is shaped exactly like the earth
If you go straight long enough you'll end up where you were
And the universe is shaped exactly like the earth
If you go straight long enough you'll end up where you were
The universe is shaped exactly like the earth

Your heart felt good
It was dripping pitch and made of wood
And your hands and knees
Felt cold and wet on the grass to me

Well, outside naked, shivering, looking blue
From the cold sunlight that's reflected off the moon
Baby cum angels fly around you
Reminding you we used to be three and not just two
And that's how the world began
And that's how the world will end

A third had just been made and we were swimming in the
water
Didn't know then, was it a son, was it a daughter?

a very good song....

"Everything that keeps me together is falling apart
I've got this thing that I consider my only art of fucking people over."

The foundations that keep things stable are crumbling, and the only thing you feel good at is causing trouble for others.

This song has a lot to do with the illusions and faith that we have that keeps us stable.

The boss is looking for blind spots....
The 3rd planet's "watcher"....
Scientific truths (our blood is just like the atlantic....the universe is shaped exactly like the earth)

The part of the song that I think is hinted at is the couple (in the baby come angels stanza) is that they lost a child.
Three becomes two.....the world began, and the world will end without their child.

i agree with sakebox. i also find the comparison of our blood to an ocean striking. i don't really know why. it's just interesting to think of it that way. an ocean that keeps us all unified. i am fun. wee.

Isaac Brock is pretty big on psychotropic drugs. I wonder... to have this kind of understanding of creation, beautiful as it is, must have taken some kind of mind expansion.

I had to write a paper on this papal letter once for a Western Civ class and I wasn't too interested in the letter so I started searching for some inspiration. I put on the Mouse CD and there it was in the first line of Third Planet. "Everything that keeps me together is falling apart." I used that as my intro line to write a paper talking about the deteriorating steadfasts of human and societal morality. So there you have it, Modest Mouse, proves inspirational in many different circumstances.

yeah, and man, like uh, dude bro, when he says the universe is shaped like the earth, man, it means it's round. The universe is round, get it? The earth is round, and the universe is like the earth, so the universe is round. GET IT?

Seriously though, who else thinks that America's education system is crumbling? I've heard teachers say the same kind of things as CONTROLDbyhatred. Something's wrong.

And how can anyone help but love Isaac Brock? American genius; rather, genius who is wholly American and locked into it.

"The 3rd planet is sure that they're being watched
by an eye in the sky that can't be stopped.
When you get to the promise land
your gonna shake that eyes hand."

the sheer genius of these lines blows me away. Totally descriptive of my very catholic family and how they view religion.

this is just one of those amazing songs that you look at and realize you had the exact same thoughts. those very thoughts that you had thought made you different from everyone else. nice to see someone else put them in song form.
i think what he's saying is that we are infinitely small and inifinitely large at the same time. one blood cell of ours could be an entire universe to bililions by billions of creatures too small for us to comprehend, and at the same time our entire universe could be just one cell in a massive creature also beyond our comprehension. this thought seems to stem from the loss of an unborn child leading to religion and then this.

I don't think he means the universe is literally the shape of the earth. Scientifically, the universe is thought of as probably not being a sphere, being that it would mostly likely collapse in that shape. What I think he meant is that the universe is shaped similarly to the earth in that as you can walk around the earth to find the same spot in which you began, the timeline of the universe will go on to come right back up to the spot in which it began. So it's comparing the shape of the earth to the cycles of the universe, timewise, that is.
That's my guess.

The lines "Well, the universe is shaped exactly like the earth
if you go straight long enough you'll end up where you were. " coincide with the line in Stars Are Projectors' last line, "Where do circles begin". Both give the idea that no matter what path you travel, you end up right where you started.

I always figured it was "Baby, 'cause angels fly around you.." Perhaps it's just me, but the slang word "cum" seems a bit perverse compared to the rest of the lyrical content. I could be wrong.

"your heart fealt good, it was drippin pitch and made of wood." well when he says pitch he means black and wood maybe is hard. so maybe he means that it felt good to be an asshole or tell someone off or something along those lines.......just a guess.

i think that verse "Your heart felt good, it was drippin' pitch and made of wood. And your hands and knees felt cold and wet on the grass to me." is written in 1st person, the earth saying how it felt to have the first animals leave the water and start living on the land... theres so much good writing in this song, its hard to break it all down into one main idea...

i think this is a posibility, this song could be religiously based. For example:

"Well, outside naked, shiverin' looking blue, from the cold
sunlight that's reflected off the moon.
Baby cum angels fly around you
reminding you we used to be three and not just two.
And that's how the world began."

this could symbolize adam and eve in the garden of eden... they were three, including God, but when they ate the forbiddin fruit, they pushed God away and disobeyed him, becoming only two people. and also:

"A 3rd had just been made and we were swimming in the
water
didn't know then was it a son was it a daughter."

This could symbolize the birth of Jesus. He was the "third" person now, the son.

I could be totally wrong, but this is what it seems like it means to me.
