I got one two three four
Five, six, six, six
Running round the neighborhood
Pejorative, "Jinx." he said the groom's
Down on me 'cause he ate the rice
It was well intentioned but bad advice
Hell yeah, yeah, yeah

Let it breakthrough, oh let breakthrough
Let it breakthrough, oh let breakthrough
Let it breakthrough, oh let breakthrough
Let it breakthrough, oh let breakthrough
Open the curtain and let in some sky

It's almost half past two, and you can tell by the light
Open your window, and let in the atmosphere!

Let it breakthrough, oh let breakthrough
Let it breakthrough, oh let breakthrough
Let it breakthrough, oh let breakthrough
Let it breakthrough, oh let breakthrough
Open the curtain and let in some sky

It's almost half past two, and you can tell by the light
Open your window, and let in the atmosphere!

Let it breakthrough, oh let breakthrough
Let it breakthrough, oh let breakthrough
Let it breakthrough, oh let breakthrough
Let it breakthrough, oh let breakthrough
I was inverted, I mean converted
I mean I don't understand

General Comment:I don't usually think too many Modest Mouse songs are about drugs, but this one sounds like it is to me. In my opinion, Cthorson pretty much nailed it for that first verse. For the second verse, imagine you're sitting in your room at 2:30 AM, and you're high on whatever drug, and you open your window and feel that cool air on your face. It's almost like a wake-up call I guess. And the whole "Breakthrough" concept, being the breakthrough from soberness to being on a drug. Having done some myself I realize what he's saying I guess, if you haven't then you might just think I'm crazy. But whatever, doesn't bother me.

My Opinion:When you take dmt which is the spirit molecule your soul leaves your body. In order to leave your body you need to inhale enough smoke to 'break through.' Which usually is a couple of hits that you hold in until you physically can't anymore. When I listen I think hes telling himself and or you to let your spirit break through. Dmt is apparently a crazy intense trip. Could explain his final thoughts about the drug I was inverted, I mean converted I mean I don't understand.

General Comment:In response to previous posts, I believe that song lyrics can be interpreted in whatever way that fits the person the most. Music is art.. and art can be taken to mean whatever anyone wants. Even if Isaac did come out and say the "correct" meaning of this song or any of them for that matter, would that really take away what you thought at first? because that will always mean the most to you. It could mean something specific to the writer but they are well aware that if they put the song out people may take it differently.. we all come from different backgrounds and experiences.. and that's whats so great about Modest Mouse, that it brings its fans together to talk about deep and intellectual topics. So i do think that people should keep posting their "cute" opinions because their insights have helped me several times to determine my own meanings of Modest Mouse songs.
    Anyways, about the song lol..
I always pictured it as Isaac telling a story of several different people who have to much going on, they're upside down(inverted) and that they just want something to breakthrough... whether it be their feelings thoughts the sunlight or the "atmosphere".. for something to make sense

General Comment:i always thought it was "it's almost half past 2 a.m.". it makes more sense to me because 2 am is a great time to open a window and let in atmosphere

General Comment:This song is secretly about Kool Aid. Talking about opening a window, letting atmosphere in and letting it break through. OH YEAH!

General Comment:It's about acid. Rice as in acid. it's a metaphor. 1,2,3,4,5, sick sick sick. 6 hits of acid is enough to make just about anyone sick. When he says open your curtain he means eye lids. when you're on acid you can tell what time it is by the light inside your house if it's night. And the atmosphere he's talking about isn't the actual earth's atmosphere he's talking about the setting. and he's talking about the window into your brain. Let it breakthrough... that you're still in your house and that you were looking at C.E.V'S for hours.
