@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
She grew up with the children of the stars
In the Hollywood hills and the boulevard
Her parents threw big parties, everyone was there
They hung out with folks like
Dennis Hopper and Bob Seeger and Sonny and Cher
She feels safe now, in this bar on Fairfax
And from the stage I can tell that
She can't let go and she can't relax
And just before she hangs her head to cry
I sing to her a lullaby
I sing, everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Rockabye
She still lives with her mom outside the city
Down that street about a half a mile
And all her friends tell her
She's so pretty
But she'd be a whole lot prettier
If she smiled once in a while
'Cause even her smile looks like a frown
She's seen her share of devils in this angel town
But, everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye (dry your tired eyes)
Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Rockabye
Ooh, ooh, ahh
I told her I ain't so sure about this place
It's hard to play a gig in this town and keep a straight face
Seems like everybody's got a plan
It's kind of like Nashville with a tan
But Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Everything's gonna be all right (I'll be your every)
Rockabye, rockabye (dry your tired eyes)
Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye
Everything's gonna be all right (I'll be your every)
Rockabye, rockabye (dry your tired eyes)
Everything's gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye, rockabye, bye, bye (ahh)
Bye, bye

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
Magical

Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
I'd still like to know who the song is about. There has to be someone out there on the internet who can point out clues based on the lyrics.
@Ekkostar Drew Barrymore? Just a guess but it entered my subconscious...

@Ekkostar Dominique Swain shows up in the video, and the last scenes have her
sinking in a swimming pool during a gala party - but the song is not about her - my
@Ekkostar I think it’s Carrie Fisher. It could be many people, and maybe it’s going to always be a secret who inspires it. But Carrie hung around SNL people. And Adam Sandler used another Shawn Mullins song for credits in one of his movies. (George Harrison’s What is life”) People might shoot down the Carrie theory by saying she was a pretty big celebrity. And she dumped Paul Simon! I would like to off er her masterpiece “Postcards from the Edge”.
its about someone who is lost in their life...they are not happy although people assume that her life is perfect its not. People pretend that things are okay when they are not..look for signs because inside they could be dying slowly
this is a purdy song. lotsa emotion. his voice sounds great, too. i just don't get the "nashville with a tan" part. >_
@Broken Hope what he means by "Nashville with a tan" is the city is like Hollywood in the sense that people tend to move there to get famous. Hollywood for movies and T.V. But Nashville is huge for the music scene, people tend to move to Nashville to make it in music like people move to Hollywood to make t in movies.
I like this song a lot but I don't get that nashville part either. I'm from Belgium, maybe that's why... ;-)
This song is so calming. It really is a lullaby. His soft voice in the verses goes really well with the sincere chorus. This song was put together well.. To have him only singing the chorus. It simulates what the song is about and I think that's genius.
This is just such a relaxing song, if you feel like things are out of hand, this song reassures you that things are going to be ok it will all pass over.
I just read that this song may have been inspired by Dominique Dunne's tragic story and that the actress on the video was even named Dominique. I don't know how true it is, they had other reasons why they thought that.
really really really good song, and i like the video too. they need to start playing it again tho
this song is really awesome. it really is a greta lullaby
its really sad, a lot of friends told me this one was my song its really nice and sometimes i feel that way
