Sappy pathetic little me
That was the girl I used to be
You had me on my knees

I'd trade you places any day
I'd never thought you could be that way
But you looked like me on Sunday

You came in with the breeze
On Sunday morning
You sure have changed since yesterday
Without any warning
I thought I knew you
I thought I knew you
I thought I knew you well, so well

You're trying my shoes on for a change
They look so good but fit so strange
Out of fashion, so I can complain

You came in with the breeze
On Sunday morning
You sure have changed since yesterday
Without any warning
I thought I knew you
I thought I knew you
I thought I knew you well, so well

I know who I am, but who are you?
You're not looking like you used to
You're on the other side of the mirror
So nothing's looking quite as clear
Thank you for turning on the lights
Thank you, now you're the parasite
I didn't think you had it in you
And now you're looking like I used to!

You came in with the breeze
On Sunday morning
You sure have changed since yesterday
Without any warning
And you want me badly
You cannot have me
I thought I knew you
But I've got a new view
I thought I knew you well, oh well

General Comment:One part of the song I really like is the imagery in the chorus, "You came in with the breeze". I believe this to be telling the listener that the guy in the situation no longer carries himself the same way. He is now an emotionally broken boy who's come back with his tail tucked between his legs and his head hung low trying to win her back. So, what I'm saying is he's an empty shell of a man, an empty shell with no weight to it so that it can float in "with the breeze".

General Comment:I love this song soooooo much!! I will now interpret the lyrics.

    "Sappy pathetic little me
That was the girl I used to be
You had me on my knees"

The girl was seriously upset about the ending of the relationship, she just moped around pathetically all the time.

"I'd trade you places any day
I'd never thought you could be that way
But you looked like me on Sunday"

The girl wished she could switch places with the boy, who seemed to be getting along just fine without her. She couldn't believe how heartless he was being. Then, one day everything changed.

"Oh you came in with the breeze
    On Sunday morning
You sure have changed since yesterday
    Without any warning
I thought I knew you (whoa)
I thought I knew you (whoa)
I thought I knew you well... so well"

One day, after the girl had finally moved on, he decided to pop back into her life. He seemed to have changed a lot since she saw him last.

"You're trying my shoes on for a change
They look so good but fit so strange
Out of fashion, so I can't complain"

The boy is now trying to get the girl back, they've switched places. He's the one moping around pathetically now. It kind of amuses the girl to see the karma, but it's also really weird to see him being the sappy one.

"I know who I am, but who are you?
You're not looking like you used to
You're on the other side of the mirror
So nothing's looking quite as clear
Thank you for turning on the lights
Thank you, now you're the parasite
I didn't think you had it in you
And now you're looking like I used to!"

The girl has definately moved on and found herself again. She's making fun of the boy who now is acting exactly the way she did after the break up. Instead of acting like he's better off without her he's come crawling back acting like he wants her in his life. The girl sees right through this though. She realizes that he just wants her back because he can't find anyone better. She realized she's much better off without that scumbag.

    "Ooh on Sunday morning
    Without a warning
    Sunday morning
    I thought I knew you
    Sunday morning
    Ooh you want me badly
    Cannot have me"

Basically she's saying "too bad loser, you missed out, kiss my *ss, etc."

And that's why I love this song! It's very relatable, in my opinion :)

General Comment:"Composing the song began when Tony Kanal was having a fight with Gwen Stefani, who was then his girlfriend, through the bathroom door of his parents' house in Yorba Linda, California. Stefani later changed the lyrics to discuss dealing with her breakup with Kanal."

General Comment:lol reading all these comments you guys are frickin insane, it's so obvious what the song means especially when you watch the video. she used to love a guy who didn't appreciate her and didn't love her back so eventually she moved on, then life probably screws him over just like he screwed her over, he realizes he was an idiot, comes back and wants her now but she's moved on and it's too late. in the video you have that guy representing the ex-boyfriend who walks by and sees her having fun and sits down and wants to be a part of it but nobody acknowledges him so he's just watching the from the side couch and realizing what he missed. it's silly in the video, but it represents the greater picture of what's going on. they always want you back but it's too late!

General Comment:Interesting. I always thought this song was about some girl who had a one night stand with a dingo-ugly bloke and now she's saying how bad it was, after this guy sweet-talked his way ("I thought I knew you") into bed with her.

"You had me on my knees" - well I don't really need to explain that one.

"You looked like me on Sunday" - girls who don't wash their makeup off before they go to bed wake up looking like the Joker in The Dark Knight. And because nobody washes their faces before going to bed after they've had a big Saturday night, they wake up looking horrible on Sunday morning.

The chorus, it sort of fits the theme but it's difficult to explain.

I could try and explain the rest but I think it fits pretty nicely.

My Interpretation:Definitely think this song is about a girl liking a guy a hell of a lot and then finding out something about him which has made their relationship switch around and now she is the one in control and doesn't want him any more when now he really wants her. always the way eh? haha

General Comment:Its about someone you love not understanding how you feel and not taking the time to try because they don't love you back. Then one day the table is turned and you see the person or persons understanding exactly what you went through but at this point you don't love them anymore because they were never there for you.

General Comment:I think the song is about
walking up sober Sunday morning after a big Saturday show
the human left looking in the mirror after a performance
along for ride (not the performer but the person)
