Michael Jackson – Who Is It

  My Interpretation:This is an interpretation someone else came up with, I loved it and when you watch the real video (the one on VEVO is not real, for some reason they won't upload the brilliant original) you can see the connections.
  
  While this interpretation isn't mine, I'll try and sum it up the best I can:
  
  In many of MJ's songs, he makes you feel whatever the mood of the song is. It's obviously about loneliness, which MJ knows a lot about with how he was alienated from normal people and never had a normal life. The other theme present is lack of trust. MJ repeatedly asks "who is it?" that stole his love away. But more on that later.
  
  First of all, instead of actually being a lover, the woman is anyone in life. They have left him in pieces as he now has to ponder why she left, which is vocalized in his who is it?s. The line "the will has brought no fortune" is how he invested so much in life and yet nothing good has come of it.
  
  Relating to the video, there is a mask in the wall watching the girl's actions. It symbolizes the mask people wear. Later the girl is being all dolled up by her people- this is more about the symbolization of the mask of life people wear. This adds another layer to the symbolization of the line "who is it?" MJ is basically asking who is he really dealing with. Are the people in his life being truthful to him?
  
  Maybe my explanation isn't very clear, but I'll post the real interpretation, which is quite long, some day. But yeah, I loved this interpretation. It went so deep and the proof in the song and video to support it.
  
  Overall, this song is one of the reasons MJ is my favorite musical artist. His voice, the mood, the beat, the melody, and the pure epicness are just a few ways to describe my love of this song.

  Song Meaning:I think his song is talking about a ungrateful woman who is denying Michael of any love. This woman is also a gold digger who is just using michael for his money. Also he feels like maybe its him who is feeling like his wife is doing him wrong and that maybe he just has the situation mixed up. Also I think that she is trying to use his money for the sake of herself. Michael even becomes increasingly saddened by the fact that his wife is cheating on him.

  General Comment:he never performed this song in any of his tours and rarely sang it live, I believe only once. He didnt like it, he thought it made him sound too normal with feelings and all... One of my favorites. not bad the fans interpretation. People are quick to try to replace him with pathetic pop artiest that are out today.

  General Comment:when i watch the video my interpretation is that: A woman who is a prostitute comes across this man (who is Michael Jackson) and she falls in love with and Michael falls in love with her. But because of the fact that she is a shame to tell him what she does for a living she thinks she can juggle both being a prostitute and being in a relationship with Michael. Only to have put Michael through a lot of pain so Michael questions who she could posibly be seeing besides him.(Who is it?) It is a friend of mine
  (Who is it?)Is it my brother?(Who is it?)Somebody hurt my soul(Who is it?)I can't take this stuff no more.Then if you read he says:"It Seems That She Has Left Me For Such Reasons Unexplained I Need To Find The Truth But See What Will I Do!" which i feel he's saying ive got to find out whats going on. Now in the video during the break of the song Michaels Butler helps him find the womans appartment and takes Michael to see what they can find only to realize that in one of her drawers she has these golden cards with different names(aliases). so michael finds out that the golden card at the beginning with the name ALEX is only an alias and realizes that she gives other men different cards with different names(pretty he finds out she's a prostitute)then he decides that the pain was too unbareable and takes a helicopter to a private place to work on healing his brokenheart.Now the surprising part was the end when the girl that Michael was in love sneaks way from her lets say pimps the man and woman whom she's prostituting for and goes to be with Michael only to find out from the butler that he's in on her secret and that their relationship is over so she goes back tto her owners and then you see the woman whom she works for slap her for sneaking off. (Sorry my interpretation is long).

  General Comment:megaheld - "woe unto me" is kind of like saying have pity on me or feel sorry for me
  
  Everybody's interpretations are pretty interesting. I never heard the fan thing before. I have heard that this was about Diana Ross though. Everyone knew he was in love with her and that he was apparently pissed when she went and got married again and he hadn't even met the guy she was marrying after they were supposed to be so close.
  
  I also heard but dont remember where that in the video for this song one of the cards had the name Diana on them.. Not sure if that was a reference to the Dirty Diana thing or that Diana. -shrugs- We'll never know.
