Lyrics for Apples And Oranges as interpreted by Demau Senae

Apples And Oranges Lyrics
Got a flip-top pack of cigarettes in her pocket
Feeling good at the top
Shopping in sharp shoes
Walking in the sunshine town feeling very cool
But the butchers and the bakers in the supermarket stores
Getting everything she wants from the supermarket stores
Apples and oranges
Apples and oranges

Cornering neatly she trips up sweetly
To meet the people
She's on time again
And then
I catch her by the eye then I stop and have to think
What a funny thing to do 'cause I'm feeling very pink
Apples and oranges
Apples and oranges

I love she
She loves me
See you
See you

Thought you might to know
I'm the lorry driver man
She's on the run
Down by the river side
feeding ducks by the afternoon tide
(quack quack)
Apples and oranges
Apples and oranges
Apples and oranges

He's comparing Apples to Oranges. He's a very pink apple, who laughs at things. She's the Orange, always on time, shopping in her sharp shoes. They're complete opposites, but they love each other.

Fantastic. Yet again, Syd makes Sydless Floyd sound like slow cook spew.

I think there must be a few meanings to this but I'm going with this one - to me it's about lacking self awareness until you meet the person you're meant to be with and then that natural connection, being in their head (as you are), means you see yourself through them. So you're actual being starts with them - and most importantly, you end with them too. Where you stop is where that person leaves you. I reckon this accounts for some of the he/she autobiographical stuff in other Syd songs too.

But whatever, at least now I know where the whole of Blurs Parklife album came from.

This song is about Syd stalking a woman he saw at a fruit and vegetable store. He followed her for hours and is just singing about the events.

Take an hour out of your life and read Syd's biography. It's in there.

If you play this song backwards, the first words you here are "you are an asshole man." Asshole is then repeated several times (it''s some part of apples and oranges backwards).

It also says (in this order):

"To fly in the sky may be easier"

"He's to the east, to the bloody east"

"Here's a leash"

"Help me" (bring on the incorrect comments that this was a Barrett plea for help and not a random conjuction of backwards syllables)

"She never looked nice, now she's nice to me"

Why would I waste my time reading an unauthorized biography about Mr. Barrett, it's probably mostly fake and making him look like a crazy person, which he is not. 3/4 of the things on the internet about him are fake and cruel. People need to leave that man alone and let him live his life in peace.

If 3% of the world would have the intelligence and humanitarian impulse this man "had" (wrote this after he passed), we would be a better world without all the BS that is so overwhelmingly present in society at the present time.

Is the person labeled "crazy" the odd person, or is the person labeling someone as "odd or crazy" really sane themself or to stupid to really accept reality the way it's really meant to be experienced?

I suppose "flip-top pack" makes more sense, but it really doesn't sound like he says "pack"... it sounds more like "carton".

In my opinion, is about a beautiful woman...

"Got a flip-top pack of cigarettes in her pocket
Feeling good at the top
Shopping in sharp shoes
Walking in the sunshine town feeling very cool"

...who gets everything she wants from almost anybody, in this case, Apples and Oranges...

"Getting everything she wants from the supermarket stores
Apples and oranges
Apples and oranges"

...and the singer or character just looks at her while she is socializing with other people in town, maybe falling in love of her, or just feeling very attracted...

"Cornering neatly she trips up sweetly
To meet the people
She's on time again
And then
I catch her by the eye then I stop and have to think
What a funny thing to do 'cause I'm feeling very pink"

...and maybe (just maybe) he follows her in his truck, though she doesn't know, and watches her, giving the apples and oranges to ducks in the river, maybe her hobbie, i don't know...

"Thought you might to know
I'm the lorry driver man
She's on the run
Down by the river side
feeding ducks by the afternoon tide
(quack quack)
Apples and oranges
Apples and oranges
Apples and oranges"

Well, that's how i see it
