Lyrics for Sleep Now In The Fire as interpreted by piesupreme

Sleep Now In The Fire Lyrics
The world is my expense
The cost of my desire
Jesus blessed me with its future
And I protect it with fire
So raise your fists
And march around
Just dont take what you need
I'll jail and bury those committed
And smother the rest in greed
Crawl with me into tomorrow
Or I'll drag you to your grave
Im deep inside your children
They'll betray you in my name

Sleep now in the fire

The lie is my expense
The scope of my desire
The party blessed me with its future
And I protect it with fire
I am the Nina The Pinta The Santa Maria
The noose and the rapist
The fields overseer
The agents of orange
The priests of Hiroshima
The cost of my desire
Sleep now in the fire

Sleep now in the fire

For it's the end of history
Its caged and frozen still
There is no other pill to take
So swallow the one
That made you ill
The Nina The Pinta The Santa Maria
The noose and the rapist
The fields overseer
The agents of orange
The priests of Hiroshima
The cost of my desire
Sleep now in the fire

This is quite obvious i think.
I agree it is definately from greeds point of view. The first line 'The world is my expense the cost ofmy desire' is quite obviously dipicting greeds value in the lives of (American) people. It also comments on the value that we put on power and how money ties in with that. It comments on the future generations with 'Im deep inside your children
Theyll betray you in my name"
It sorta errily puts it straight in your face confronting the issue that the future generation will continue to be like that. It comments on american capitalism and globalisation in both the video and the lyrics referring to the battle of seatte. Where peaceful protesters protesting against globalisation of america were arrested.
So raise your fists
And march around
Just dont take what you need
Ill jail and bury those committed
And smother the rest in greed

Umm...the chorus and the name of the song 'Sleep now in the fire' is sort of metaphorical in that we can die in a fire sleeping as we dont know that its happening before its too late. Sort of relating that to greed, american capitalism and the value of money.

the use of differnt american events..such as..
I am the Nina The Pinta The Santa Maria
The noose and the rapist
The fields overseer
The agents of orange
The priests of Hiroshima

relate to agent orange in vietnam, hiroshima, black americans (the noose and the rapist), nina pinta the santa maria refers to Christopher columbus' ships in which he found america and invaded on indian american territory now just a minority. It comments on the justification of greed and the desire to become richer, powerful and controlling.

Its most definately a comment on the value of moeny and greed and the willingness for people to seize these things by any means neccessary.

Great clip my michael moore and a great song by RATM.

Thumbs up from me!!!

I´ve come to the conclusion that the song is from the perspective of mankind.

I am the Nina The Pinta The Santa Maria
The noose and the rapist
The fields overseer
The agents of orange
The priests of Hiroshima

He's taking these american events as examples
to characterize the human race.
By the way I think this hasn't already been posted: "The priests of hiroshima" are most likely referring to the priests who prayed with the crew of the enola gay that everything would turn out "well".

Now the song means to me, that every single one of us is responsible for the state the world is in today.
Be it actively or passively. There is no government to blame as those are just the people representing you and me.

fucking hell

this song is quite obviously about the devil/evil and the way it's portrayed in our modern society

"the cost of my desire, sleep now in the fire"

i'm greedy, now i'm in hell

he also lists all these "evil" events that have happened in history

basically, it's about evil

I think it's about how the government doesn't learn from their mistakes, hence, "There is not other pill to take, so swallow the one that made you ill."

Also, "The world is my expence, the cost of my desire" means that the governments think that they own everything and they want to own everything.

well, i don't mean to get too political here, but steve-dave415 pre WWII, the Japanese were sick fucks. Here is the wiki to show how messed up they were.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanjing_Massacre - I don't see a song recognizing that Japanese Imperial forces raped tens of thousands of women in Nanking.

Also, they started a war with us, and when you start a war with us well, we're gonna fucking fight. I know , I know, I know. Theyre innocent. Well, so were we.

Anyways, great song. The video is really well put together, damn wall street assholes lol.

Relatively straightforward lyrics. Just wanted to add that "the party" could conceivably refer to the Boston Tea Party(?!) and "end of history" very clearly refers to "The End of History" written by Francis Fukuyama. For those not familiar with him I'd imagine Wikipedia has the scoop as always :)

This song is about the book "1984" by George Orwell, in which a totalitarian party constantly controls and changes history to make it fit to the political situations it is in. War is constant and people are keepen dumb and willing by it. But the war consumes all the products that could make the people strive for power, so they live in strict poverty, planned by the government. It fits 100%. Read the book. It's pretty cool.

Alright, yes greed is a factor, but in the song he saying who he is. So, who is "the Nina, the Pinta, the Santa Maria. The Noose and the rapist the fields overseer. The agent of orange, the priest of Hiroshima." He is talking about the white man. Why do I say that? you might ask. Alright, who came over on the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria... Christobal Colon or Christopher Colombus, a white man. Who hung and raped folks in times of slavery... white folks. Who watched over the slaves on the plantations... white folks. Who used the agent orange, and dropped the bomb on Hiroshima... white folks. So, if it has to do with greed you are partly right. Unless you mean the source of the greed.
