Lyrics for Coming Back To Life as interpreted by Demau Senae

Coming Back To Life Lyrics
Where were you when I was burned and broken
While the days slipped by from my window watching
Where were you when I was hurt and I was helpless
Because the things you say and the things you do surround me
While you were hanging yourself on someone else's words
dying to believe in what you heard
I was staring straight into the shining sun

Lost in thought and lost in time
While the seeds of live and the seeds of change were planted

Outside the rain fell dark and slow
While I pondered on this dangerous but
Irresistable pas-time
I took a heavenly ride through one silence
I knew the moment had arrived
For killing the past and coming back to life

I took a heavenly ride trough our silence
I knew the waiting had begin
And headed straight... into the shining sun

I can't beleive nobody's commented on this song. I'm one of the VERY rare few who likes the "new" Pink Floyd material a lot more, sans Roger Waters.

This song grabs me by the balls and doesn't let go and I can completely relate to it.

Once you get past the super long intro. the solid, steady rhythm really kicks in (and justifies the intro. for those who don't like it) and it flows like water until the very end.

Thank you Pink Floyd. PLEASE release another record!

Hey AnimalChin, I'm with you. Although I love the "old" Pink Floyd, IMHO they've solidly demonstrated that they don't need Roger Waters. This song kicks major ass.

I agree i think the latter Pink Floyd driven by David Gilmour kicks Roger Water's Pink Floyd's ass - with a few exceptions of cause.
This is one of the best Pink Floyd songs ever, the lyrics are beautiful and literally send shivers down my spine...

Pink Floyd's music transcends you into another world. This song is beautiful, and like most of their songs, full of emotion that grabs you and won't let go. ReaperKK, I also listen to this song when I am upset, and it does help. I think the song is talking about betrayal and a person not getting a chance and then realizing that life goes on and so must they.

I agree with all you guys. The Division Bell remains one of my all time favorite albums. What makes it so great is that you can't even give the music on it a title. It transends all categories of music and makes its own. Seemlessly blending classical music, rock, different sound effects, and kick ass vocals. This album is a prime example of why Pink Floyd will forever remain timeless

It is a song about the end of the cold war and the collapse of Soviet sattilite states in Eastern Europe. "Staring straight into the shining sun" is a definite elude to the east. It suggests that we, the west could have done more for the east at the conclusion of the second world war. In the interim period after the war and the collapse of communism, the heard our words, while we watched and did nothing as the Soviets invaded thier "Fraternal Socialists brothers" not once, but twice (Hungary 19956 and Czechloslavakia 1968), in the end freedom triumphed, but the sonfg is critical about paying lip service to ideals and not action. It was the inheriently corrupt nature of communism and the strength of the human spirit that triumphed in the east, not the idealism of democracy.

When I listen to this song, I think of it as a way of looking beyond the past. It seems like it is saying that you were trying to get help from someone who ended up letting you down, then in the end you finally find your own way.

this song to me has so many meanings, i love it. i listen to it when i'm mad and it calms me down so much. it also reminds me of when i got in to a fight with one of my best friends and we weren't talking for a while. i really needed her, and the words really related to how i felt, "where were you when i was burned and broken..." and even though it might not be what it's about, it just reminds me of that.

almost every song that Pink floyd has made is about the life of Syd the first singer of the band and a very good friend of David Gilmour.

this entire song relates to a transition in life. its beautiful. its sooo beautiful. i love the lyrics. especially "lost in thought and lost in time"

and this really makes you think to "While I pondered on this dangerous but
Irresistable pas-time"

its amazing. its about deleting the past from your life that makes someone depressed to "come back to life".
or thats my interpretation

To me this song seems like it's talking about, say a girl, that is the perfect girl for a guy, and he wonders where she was when his life was shit so that she could have made it all better.

I agree with what's been said above. I don't judge my PF fandom on stupid reasons. Specifically the post-Waters period vs. the Waters Period... I judge everything fairly and I absolutely agree that TDB is my fav album of them all. And it's not becuase I'm 16 and this is the only album that was squeezed out in my generation; I love all of floyd's works. It's all genious in some form or another. But its amazing when you compare TDB with say the Wall.. it's almost a totally different band. Coming Back to Life is my fav song after Poles Apart. like Animal Chin, it grabs by the balls and doesn't let go. The Divison Bell is full of its magic: Great Lyric + Amazing Sounds.

One of the better songs, the music and voice just takes you to a place where all meaning merely doesn't even need to dissapear.

It's a love song. A boy meets a girl, falls head over heels in love with a girl but this girl is commited to another. This boy waits and bides his time never losing hope and he finally gets what he's been waiting for.

"While you were hanging yourself on someone else's words
dying to believe in what you heard" - The girl waiting for something from her current beau, possibly a marriage proposal?

"While I pondered on this dangerous but
Irresistable pastime" - It's sex, simple as that

I love this song because it relates alot to what i'm going through at this moment in time.

Hey Arnold, you might be right. Anyhow, this song starts off kinda sad, and then when the guitar kicks in its real uplifting, hencee the name coming back to life. I reckon this song is beautiful, and I love it.
