Lyrics for Guerilla Radio as interpreted by piesupreme

Guerilla Radio Lyrics
Transmission third world war third round
A decade of the weapon of sound above ground
No shelter if youre looking for shade
I lick shots at the brutal charade
As the polls close like a casket
On truth devoured
Silent play in the shadow of power
A spectacle monopolized
The cameras eyes on choice disguised
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?
Yes a spectacle monopolized
They hold the reins, stole your eyes
All the fistagons the bullets and bombs
Who stuff the banks
Who staff the party ranks
More for Gore or the son of a drug lord
None of the above fuck it cut the cord

Lights out guerilla Radio
Turn that shit up

Contact I highjacked the frequencies
Blockin the beltway
Move on DC
Way past the days of bombin MCs
Sound off Mumia guan be free
Who gottem yo check the federal file
All you pen devils know the trial was vile
Army of pigs try to silence my style
Off em all out that box its my radio dial

Lights out guerilla Radio
Turn that shit up

It has to start somewhere
It has to start sometime
What better place than here
What better time than nowAll hell cant stop us now
All hell cant stop us nowAll hell cant stop us now
All hell cant stop us now
All hell cant stop us now
All hell cant stop us now

This son has so much meaning to it. It talks about how our government uses the media to blind and control the population. Also the line "More for Gor or the son of a drug lord" is talking about the 2000 election and asking which candidate was better. Obviously they didnt like either and the drug lord part is talking about the US involvment with the columbian drug cartels during the 80's and 90's(and probably now) and how George W H Bush has helped put drugs on our streets. It is also talking about how rage has gotten major airplay and used the governments own tool to put an anti government message out. Obviously they know that Mumia should be freed and that his trial was complete bullshit.

This song (like ALL RATM songs) is about being a spoiled brat living in America, where you have so things so nice, so all you can do is rebel against your parents by doing drugs and breaking things.

Pretty much what the Axis of Justice (By Tom Morello and Serji) stands for

It's about using the radio to downgrade and disrupt the polics, Republicans, democrats and conservatives.

To the douches who say punk is politically charged, then say "practice what you preach," all punk does is complain about shit. At least Rage does something to make the world a better place, unlike punks, who bitch about the way things are, then get drunk and OD on heroin and freebase. Most punks talk about being unruly and not giving a fuck about anything, yet they spend hours doing their hair and sowing their clothes with patches.

Rage Against the Machine kicks the shit out of every other "fuck authority" band I've heard. And they're not political posers, which is a nice change from the usual.

Gotta admit Tom Morello's guitar work and Zack De La Rocha's rapping style makes the band though. The bass and drums might not be incredible, but hey, they're competent aren't they?

I think this song is about cutting loose over the radio and telling the truth for everyone to hear, uncencored, and pretty much taking over the station.
I hear it more as an idealistic "what-if" anthem than a reference to what is actually happening today.

P.S: I usually like when he starts repating a particular part of the song. Its a good build up.

Ok, first off I have a question for many of you; why the hell are you even here? This is particularly aimed at Nothingface, you say your here to state your opinions. I only see 2 reasons you would be here; 1. Your a Rage fan, or 2. You come here to pointlessly provoke fights with sad net nerds. So you basically came here to post about how bad Rage is and how "average" they are. Why would you purposely come here, avoid the topic on hand which is the song "Guerilla Radio", throw out a few comments demeaning Rage, and wait for someone to disagree so you can start a pointless arguement over the web with Rage fans and fifth graders? And just to get this off my mind, you seem to have little depth preception with guitar playing in regard to Tom Morello. I'm sure there are more skilled guitarists out their. So want if their skilled? Just because someone practices lifelessly and doesn't have any feeling at all for what they play doesn't make them good. Other wise we could have machines play guitar ( Rage Against the Machine, get it?). Tom Morello is a great guitarist because he plays for what he believes in a creative and skillfull manner.

Now thats out of the way...

I believe this song is about how the media can "choose" who we vote for. They basically take the top to canidates and center EVERYTHING around them. The line " More for Gore or the son of a drug lord" refers to how the media narrowed it down to 2 canidates thatwe wouldn't want to vote for anyway. Also, its about using the radio to start a revolution through the power of music. So its kind of a 2- meaning song for me.

RATM is a very important band for this time. Their music and message is perhaps even more relevant today than it was all those years ago. I'm afraid that what they were protesting against and perhaps even trying to pre-empt is now coming to fruition... and we've got ourselves to blame.

Hopes not lost though. Fighting back was never easy, but it can and should be done.

Pennywise is pretty good, my favorite political band is Bad Religion.

This song is about the 2000 elections and about using the radio to broadcast their message.

RATM is an outstanding band
The music is very good
The rhymes are verrry good
im a fan BUT
the message in there lyrics is ALWAYS the same
theyre just angry on society not being specific, theyre very vague... just like many other punk bands (pennywise which is ALSO a great band) but thats just the thing thats irritating me
all those contra bands have to produce something original, specific as message...
Revolution, anarchy, anger has their causes and theyre not finding them but only producing a worthless "counter"culture of people who call themselfs "nonconformists"
i think kiddos hypnotised by this nonsensemessages are just phonies and might be listening to korn, my chemical romance, ... too
RATM says: open your eyes, but i say - again - open your eyes, their message has nothing to offer, its not constructive
anyway, enjoy their great music

The title basically says RATM's general message of what their music has always been about- fighting the system using words and music as their weapons. The song was written around the time of the 2000 election and that's what it's mostly about. The line "none of the above, cut the cord", in my opinion, means Zack didn't really like either Gore or Bush. Gore was a liar, and Bush was his stubborn self all through the debates. It's interesting how they refer to the election as a spectacle, because that's exactly what it ended up being, with Florida and the recount.

Regarding the Mumia reference, what does "guan" mean? And this is the one thing I'm getting tired of hearing in RATM's songs. I still love their music, but there are some messages I don't agree with. So cop killers should be free? The trial may have been unfair, but if I'm not mistaken, the bullet was registered to Mumia's gun and witnesses said he shot the cop.

Tom Morello seems to support Barack Obama, as said in an interview: 'Well Barack Obama and I weirdly have a lot in common. We both have Kenyan fathers, white American mothers, we’re both from Illinois, we’re both Harvard graduates and we’re both devastatingly handsome. Having said that, there’s really not too much to say about the other ’08 candidates.'

I want to try and play the guitar solo on a harmonica.

Nothing is wrong with people voicing their opinions as long as they're not assholes about it.

everybody stop voiceing your opinions. good for you for having them but i honestly dont care. just stick with how you feel abou the song not how you feel about other bands or how much you love punk. just explain the song through your eyes and just dont be a dickfuck.

Now this song is about how america always trys for more and is powered by greed and the richer greeder people. also how our government is getting really fucked up. basicly this song is about how rage is trying to start a revolution through the airwaves to keep america right and serve the people more and also more help other countries more. not just the rich people. thanks

Well said.. I for one would like to know what this song is about..

but, to put in my two cents worth...
Nothingface, you are an asswipe... kind of. I can understand how you would get tired of distortion, and if you don't like rage? Fine, but don't rip on people's musical taste by saying 'all their songs sound the same', because most people interpret that as "You only listen to the same shit music all the time"
All in all though, you're pretty much an asswipe.

how about everyone shut the fuck up and discuss the meaning of the song. this is songmeanings.net after all not isrageagoodband.com. so nothingface doesn't like rage and everyone else does, big whoop. with all that's going on these days in this country and others, and Rage recently getting back together at Coachella, i think this is a great time to discuss their songs and their meanings. The reason I came to this song is because I saw footage of them playing it live at Coachella and it was great seeing everyone screaming "all hell can't stop us now" it was very inspiriting. and i think thats what rage wanted with this song, to unite and stand up for a common purpose, not fight over who's a "good" or "bad" band. so everyone calm the hell down and just talk about the music. if you don't like the band then don't post anything, or go to another forum that deals with discussing bands, this is just for songmeanings, not rage's official message board. with that said...WHAT DOES THIS SONG MEAN TO YOU ALL!??!?!?!
