Overhead the albatross
Hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves
In labyrinths of coral caves
An echo of a distant time
Comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine.

And no one called us to the land
And no one knows the where's or why's.
Something stirs and something tries
Starts to climb toward the light.

Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me.
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand
The best I can.

And no one called us to the land
And no one crosses there alive.
No one speaks and no one tries
No one flies around the sun

Almost everyday you fall
Upon my waking eyes,
Inviting and inciting me
To rise.
And through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning.

And no one sings me lullabys
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky

General Comment:There is no band in comparison in this earth, to Pink Floyd. And if there is, they are not of this solar system.

This song Echoes is probably the most ambitious and most united effort that Pink Floyd ever released. Pure Magic.

My Opinion:Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me.
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
    And help me understand
    The best I can.

This sounds to me as an expression of the concept of Namaste. Which is that we are all rooted to the same existence. I am just another form of you. We all share a collective consciousness.

General Comment:Anyone who has played the game Earthbound may see some similarities, the part that begins the second part sounds so much like the alien stonehenge base, I MEAN RIGHT ON.

General Comment:It's so fun to interpret songs. I have enjoyed reading these comments.
I think it's about meeting yourself, hiding from your past and refusing the future. To me it says we are avoiding confronting ourselves and what we are capable of and that we can't be alone in anything we do. There are two sides of each of us, like a rosencrantz and a Guildenstern. Sometimes we meet.
    "Strangers passing in the street

I also get the feeling that we came on land from water in the beginning and have been trying to figure out what we're supposed to be doing up here. Are we supposed to help each other become who we are supposed to be? How would we do it alone?
Only a piece of ART can prompt so much discussion. Thank you for the opportunity to join you all! Now, can anyone interpret See Emily Play for me?

General Comment:Let me say, I love this song. It's always been a favorite of mine.
Now, personally I think it's about 2 people who meet, but 1 of them leaves, judging by the line "So I throw the windows wide and call to you across the sky." I think it means 1 of them is trying to call out to the other, but they only get echoes in response.
Honestly I do think it's quite a far shot from the actual meaning.

My Interpretation:To me this song is epic on the grandest scale. The song begins on the beach amidst the waves of the sea, but also amidst the waves of sunlight. The pinging of the opening notes suggests both the submarine sonar and the echoes of the big bang. This is about creation and evolution, wave-particle duality, and the call of evolving DNA to itself in a grand love song which echoes throughout all time, so that in each life, each reincarnation, we are calling to ourselves, and our soulmates, our fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, lovers, sons and daughters, our friends and even our enemies, as we have been all of these to each other throughout our countless incarnations, and in this endless cycle of rebirth and evolution, we are the Universe becoming conscious of itself, so that each morning when the sunlight hits our eyes, and we are conscious of it, of that echo of creation, we are the evolution from that time, calling back to our past and present self.

Song Meaning:meeting somebody at random that you have no clue about, but some part of them cathces your eye you dont know what it is, and you get a feeling that they are "you" in a way, they reflect yourself like a mirror would *possibly a hulucination of your own youth* "the echoes" the vibe and feeling reminding yourself about something from a long time ago, but in the end it all these feelings and thoughts started from nothing but a random encounter with some random person.

General Comment:Pink Floyd's Echoes has a magical quality that has rarely been achieved in music. It's timeless and ahead of its time in the same instant. David is the master of hitting the right note at the correct time and Rick still had right until the end. Words cannot do this song justice. Simply the best that human beings can do while we are here on this planet.

General Comment:I agree with LaFlamaBlanca. I think this is about meeting someone. To me, the first verse sets the visual of someone alone and lonely-by themselves taking it in. The second verse is meeting someone on no particualr special day-you're just walking along minding your own business, same lonely life as usual then BAM-"soulmate". Third verse is them spending their lives together. Waking in the morning next to them, etc. Fourth verse may be an elaboration of the third or they possibly lost that person, maybe through death but they are always there with them-they "Echoes" of them are still very much present, hence the title. which brings back to the beginning-maybe the first verse is the loneliness and memory (once again the "Echoes") brought on by the following 3 verses.
