A cloud of eiderdown
Draws around me
Softening a sound
Sleepy time, and I lie
With my love by my side
And she's breathing low
And the candle dies

When night comes down
You lock the door
The book falls to the floor
As darkness falls
The waves roll by
The seasons change
The wind is wry

Now wakes the hour
Now sleeps the swan
Behold the dream
The dream is gone
Green fields are calling
It's falling, in a golden door

And deep beneath the ground
The early morning sounds
And I go down
Sleepy time, and I lie
With my love by my side
And she's breathing low

And I rise, like a bird
In the haze, when the first rays
Touch the sky
And the night wings die

General Comment:To further elaborate; it's like this person has been having this reocurring dream for years that they became reunited and were back together with the one. The dream is always so real and vivid but then you awake and it's just a dream. Then finally, after all this time the dream actually becomes a reality. The person's dream or dreams really became true and they were finally with this person again. Even though the circumstances were not ideal, it didn't matter because everything they went through was all worth it and the person finally felt what they had hoped for which seemed like forever. They finally felt the for the very first time that the other person actually really did love them. But then they awoke from that dream too. It's like the movie inception. A dream within a dream. To good to be true. The feeling had been taken away with a blink of the eye. The other person has moved on like before and his heart is with someone else. This would be a great but tragic movie plot. In real life there are never happy endings. The End...

General Comment:It seems the only time this person gets to ever see and actually be with this person is in their dreams. It's so peaceful, tranquil and magical. Then they awake and realize it was just a dream and come back to reality. They understand that it's never going to happen and they'll never be together and they will always be alone. They're comfortably numb to and with it...

General Comment:I think it symbolizes in a way how a day goes by-from the sunset to the sunrise, and the beginning of the new one (the moods in the melody also shift respectively). At the same time, you can look at it as the seasons of the year-from fall to spring, and beginning of summer. Maybe it's just me, I'm not sure what they meant when they wrote it.. ;p

Song Meaning:Falling asleep next to the person that you love is a wonderful feeling... When you can't fall asleep next to them anymore, and that feeling is gone, it's like a nightmare. It's like the boogeyman came and ripped your heart out.

Sometimes, the nightmare ends and you wake up next to that person.

General Comment:I could fall asleep to this one every night...The best of Pink Floyd, for me, are the ones with a calming, sedating effect on me.

General Comment:could it mean that the woman dies "shes breathing low" and the candle dies meaning she is fire giving him warmth and then she dies"waters does say it is so much easier to write sad songs than good

General Comment:OK, i want to correct myself: the writer of the Lyrics was R. Waters.
And now that i think about it, maybe he just can´t sleep ´cause his girlfriend snores, and he uses an euphemism to say that: "seh´s brething low".
    Bad joke, i know
