Big man, pig man, ha ha charade you are.
You well heeled big wheel, ha ha charade you are.
And when your hand is on your heart,
you're nearly a good laugh, almost a joker,
with your head down in the pig bin,
saying, " Keep on digging", pig stain on your fat chin.
What do you hope to find, when you're down in the pig mine?
You're nearly a laugh, you're nearly a laugh,
but you're really a cry.
Bus stop rat bag, ha ha charade you are.
You fucked up old hag, ha ha charade you are.
You radiate cold shafts of broken glass.
You're nearly a good laugh, almost worth a quick grin.
You like the feel of steel, you're hot stuff with a hat pin,
and good fun with a hand gun.
You're nearly a laugh, you're nearly a laugh,
but you're really a cry.

Hey you, Whitehouse, ha ha charade you are.
You house proud town mouse, ha ha charade you are.
You're trying to keep our feelings off the street,
you're nearly a real treat, all tight lips and cold feet,
and do you feel abused?

You gotta stem the evil tide,
and keep it all on the inside.
Mary, you're nearly a treat, Mary, you're nearly a treat,
but you're really a cry.

General Comment:EricArthurBlair. This must be your personal interpretation. How can the second verse be about Thatcher when :
    a. She wasn't in power when the album came out in 1977 and
    b. The Falklands war wasn't until 1982. 5 years after the album came out (in 1977.)
    Is R.Daltrey a psychic?
Was it a premonition?? (like Pet Shop Boys song: Kings Cross...now that was weird.)

General Comment:Three different pigs. The first are the rank and file politicians. They're just puppets, well heeled big wheels. They're just worried about staying on the gravy train. They put their hands on their hearts, as to say that they really care about the people, but in reality they only care about themselves.

The second is about Margaret Thatcher. Roger hated her for going into the Battle of Falklands and selling off public service sectors in the much opposed switch to privatization. So, he basically said she's a cold, cruel, crazy, fucked up old hag.

The third is about Mary Whitehouse. She was an anti-modern media conservative who pushed to censor immoral behavior of any sort on various media platforms, mainly television. Roger is saying that she's wrong to keep the feelings of the people off the street, that is to say, censor personal expression due to her selfish opinion that everyone should live up to and uphold her own moral standards. Roger says she's all tight lips and cold feet, asks if she feels abused, and tells her she has to stem the evil tide and keep it all on the inside. Basically, he's saying you have your opinion and the people have theirs, no one is forcing you to watch it or listen to it, so you're not being abused unless you choose to watch or listen.

Haha, charade you are.. basically these people are all frauds. Frauds serving their own interests and those above them, while feigning love and support for the people.

General Comment:"Whitehouse" and "Mary" are talking about a woman named Mary Whitehouse who was basically Britain's version of Tipper Gore. She campaigned against what she perceived as immorality in the media, and so she was naturally an enemy of rock music in those days. So it's inevitable that someone like Roger Waters would take a well-deserved swing at her.

General Comment:Animals is the best concept album ever produced. It doesn't get the publicity and respect it deserves though, due to it's lack of hits and utter shortness via tracks.
This song is all about the dictators in society. The bullies elected sometimes unintentionally by the public.
It's a fairly long song, but worth every second.

General Comment:For some reason the second verse reminds of Sarah Palin... "You like the feel of steel, you're hot stuff with a hatpin, good fun with a hand gun.." I totally see her reflected in those lyrics... I know it's about Thatcher.

General Comment:What does "you gotta stem the evil tide and keep it all on the inside" mean? Anybody?

General Comment:I think of "Hah hah, charade you are" in like playing charades, pretending to be something else or faking it, maybe a comparison to politicians and other influential people in positions of power. It's like they are all playing charades, going through the motions of someone other than themselves. That's what I take of that line at least.

General Comment:To me this entire album is Roger Water's salute George Orwell. Two brilliant men who have (had in the latter's case) it all figured out.

General Comment:"mary is nearly a treat, but really a crime" is hands down talking about marijuana. "tight lips and cold feet" there is almost to much evidence proving what they said about weed to make it illegal completely wrong, but they will never admit it or discuss it ;(
