Heavy hung the canopy of blue
Shade my eyes and I can see you
White is the light that shines through the dress that you wore

She lay in the shadow of the wave
Hazy were the visions of her playing
Sunlight on her eyes but moonshine made her cry every time

Green is the color of her kind
Quickness of the eye deceives the mind
Envy is the bond between the hopeful and the damned

General Comment:The song *is* about being on Ibiza. Please download a .wma from here archive.org/serve/pinkfloyd1970-04-29/… . It is a show at the Fillmore West on April 29, 1970. At 1:1:13 Roger is introducing Green Is the Colour/Eugene and if you turn up the volume you can hear him say just that.

General Comment:I thought I was crazy thinking "Green Is the Colour" was the best Pink Floyd song. What a relief to realize I'm not the only one.
The line:"Envy is the bond between the hopeful and the damned"
has a very clear meaning (like the rest of the song, - clear and crisp):
    1. Saints envy sinners for their sinful life on the Earth;
    2. Sinners envy saint for their future in Heaven.

General Comment:I only know the live version from a Peel Session, where he sings along with the guitar solo (does he do that on the studio version?) Absolutely amazing...

General Comment:I`ve read all the comments and dare I say the meaning of the last verse is still unclear to me. Why does envy connect the hope and the damnation?

General Comment:The song is about an Island, more directly, Ibiza. Rogers said he wrote this song when they were in Ibiza recording for la valle. The song makes much more sense when it's about an island. However, it could have a double meaning and be about a girl. though i highly doubt it because water's rarely ever wrote love songs towards girls. I could go deeper but here's a quick explanation. Blue canopy = sky. He's gotta shade his eyes just to see the island. the dress is the bright white sand. Shadow of a wave is the surrounding crashing waters. Hazy visions are the mirage spectical you acheive staring across sand. The sun in her eyes is just the reflection of the sun. Moonshine made her cry is the fact the the moon brings in the tide. Ibiza is a highly forested island in the urban area, so green is her colour. The last two lines are very typical of waters's writing style. Make a huge leap to metaphysical metaphor at the end, so he could say it had artistic meaning. Oh roger. What will we do with you... oh yea. we'll go to your wall tour coming up.

General Comment:Yea the KQED one is pretty cool i got it also and i never heard most of the songs before i heard this. i wish theradio stations played a more variety of floyd music. i found this one on amazon for cheap but where else can i find rare stuff like this because this floyd movie is pretty tight. i love live versions of their music so much beter then their studio work, it seems like the music just flows so nicley before you know it its over and you want to play it over again lol

General Comment:The first time that i listened to this song i founded extremely sad, the organ sounds brought memories from a past that i hadn´t lived, yeah, it sounds weird, but it was a very vague melancholy, and i didn´t know about what .
Has anyone else felt something like that?
    And no, i wasn´t /am not stoned...
