Run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run
Run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run.
You better make your face up in
Your favorite disguise.
With your button down lips and your
Roller blind eyes.
With your empty smile
And your hungry heart.
Feel the bile rising from your guilty past.
With your nerves in tatters
When the conch shell shatters
And the hammers batter
Down your door.
You'd better run.
Run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run,
Run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run.
You better run all day
And run all night.
Keep your dirty feelings
Deep inside.
And if you're taking your girlfriend
Out tonight
You'd better park the car
Well out of sight.
'Cause if they catch you in the back seat
Trying to pick her locks,
They're gonna send you back to mother
In a cardboard box.
You better run.
"Hey, open up!"
"Hammer, hammer"
Run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run.
You better make your face up in
Your favorite disguise.
With your button down lips and your
Roller blind eyes.
With your empty smile
And your hungry heart.
Feel the bile rising from your guilty past.
With your nerves in tatters
When the conch shell shatters
And the hammers batter
Down your door.
You'd better run.
Run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run,
Run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run.
You better run all day
And run all night.
Keep your dirty feelings
Deep inside.
And if you're taking your girlfriend
Out tonight
You'd better park the car
Well out of sight.
'Cause if they catch you in the back seat
Trying to pick her locks,
They're gonna send you back to mother
In a cardboard box.
You better run.
"Hey, open up!"
"Hammer, hammer"

Back to the song: It's pretty damn angry, that's for sure. My guess: you better secure that facade of yours or the "police" will get you and kill you and send you home to mother. Its the profound need to keep your exterior in place for fear of total annihilation from the "authorities" of the world. You better run like hell. Or they'll get you.
I never understood why people become so defensive when someone else doesn't like a song/album/artist as much as they do. Music is entirely subjective; you may like the same song I do, just as much as I do, but for entirely different reasons. I have a degree in recording arts and the reason why I like a song most likely is different from why you like it, unless you also have a degree or experience in the recording industry and are listening for the same things I listen for.
That being said, Pink Floyd is my favorite band of all time. The Wall is probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite album, with DSOTM at #1. Furthermore, The Wall, in terms of reception, went platinum more than DSOTM, yet is second to DSOTM in terms of sales (coming up 15 million short). What's more interesting is that TW's engineer James Guthrie won a Grammy for the album and Alan Parsons didn't win a Grammy for DSOTM. In fact, Parsons has never won a Grammy and I think he's a better engineer.
Point being, the song's meaning is subjective, the reception is subjective and as music lovers, we should all respect each opinion; and when inaccurate information is given, correct it with the intent to expand knowledge, not ego.
If you listen to all of The Wall, it becomes pretty easy to interpret this song. He's running away from society, attempting to escape the wrath he imagines that the world holds against him. He sees himself as dirty, and he sees society as wanting revenge against him for his perceived dirtiness.
