Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn?
Remember how she said that
We would meet again
Some sunny day?
Vera! Vera!
What has become of you
Does anybody else in here
Feel the way I do?

General Comment:I have a deluxe DVD of The Wall and in it Roger Waters said that the director and the animator would often asked him "What is this song fucking about?" and he would reply sometimes "I don't really know." This might've been one of those songs. The Wall was only semi-autobiographriful, much of the descent into madness was about Syd Barret. I think Vera Lynn's "We'll meet again" was an obvious connection to the loss he felt of never knowing his dad who died at Anzio in the war...Since Vera Lynn was very popular during the war and this song is about the soldiers going off to war and her trying to reassure them that they would meet again some sunny day that this is a connection to the fact that he never really met his father at all. It may not only be mourning the loss of his father but empathy for anyone who lost somebody at some point in their lives. And since at this point Pink is totally within the wall he has constructed for himself he is actually reaching out to anybody that could help him - a cry for help if you will. The vocal is so saturated with emotion it is impossible to not feel something when you hear it. It's brilliant. "Vera, Vera, what has become of you? Does anybody else in here feel the way I do?" Remeber The Wall is actually set at a concert and represents the distance he began to feel with the audience at these huge arena shows which were not a lot of fun to play. They became events and happenings and like The Beatles felt no one is reallyt listening to us anymore...what's the point? Maybe he knows some Russian and that his wife's infidelity stikes a chord with Vera meaning faith in Russian...who knows but Roger Waters?

General Comment:There are many descriptions of this song that are close.
Remember that The Wall is very autobiographical to Waters. The entire album (aside from Comfortably Numb) is about his life. The song Vera makes references to a popular WWII song by artist Vera Lynn called "We'll Meet Again". Its an excellent song. In the song she tells the boys going off to war that we'll see them again.

Sadly Water's father (and mine) never did return from the war, leaving Lynn's promise unfulfilled. So Waters is asking if anyone remembers Lynn's promise. The song is written from young Water's perspective so you can imagine a young boy asking when his father will come home in light of Lynn's promise. It's a very sad song and one that I, unfortunately, can relate to.
(BTW: Water's father was killed in battle in Italy).

General Comment:The Wall is probably overrated, full with filler and all that- but damn thats some atmospheric filler. Vera is only one mintue long, another stop gap before a bigger number, but it always hits me so hard. That part in the end where Water's voice cracks ('Does anybody else is hEre, feel the way i do?') just breaks your heart.

General Comment:The story behind the song is something i am not aware of. But the execution of the song and the delivery by Roger Waters with such poignant touch brings out the melancholic beauty in all its glory.

General Comment:Few bands can capture such beauty and display such emotion in such a small fragment and minimal chord progressions. Kudos Pink Floyd.

General Comment:To understand this song you have to understand the album's context, a little WWII history and a bit of Russian.

As has been mentioned previously, the obvious meaning of this song lies in Vera's song "We'll meet again." At this point in the album, Pink has wrapped himself in his wall and is crying out about the various factors which forced him into building it. Vera is referring to its namesake's unfulfilled promise of bringing back Pink's dad from war. Of course there is some irony here as Pink never met his dad, so he wouldn't have seen him "again," but, in fact, for the first time.

A less known fact is that the word "vera," in Russian, means "faith." Now, I'm unsure of whether or not Roger Waters knew about this. If he did, it suggests the song means something completely different. The lyrics "Vera, Vera, Vera/What has become of you?" now seem to be directed at Pink's unfaithful wife. At this point, Pink is still on the road with his band and had only recently found out about his wife's transgressions thousands of miles away. So now the song looks like Pink's attempt at coping with the fact that he will never be able to come home to the arms of a loving wife.

Of course, like all great lyrics, chances are both interpretations are true simultaneously. This, in my mind, makes the song and album even better than previously imagined.

General Comment:I think this is about the change between WW2 and the cold war, because after WW2, when all the troops were supposed to go back to their homes, Pink's dad was dead, and a lot of troops had to stay in west germany. Now if those troops in west Germany ever did go to war again, we know that there wouldn't be hope for them coming back because they wouldn't have a home to go back to (Nuclear annihilation).

So maybe this is pink acknowledging that there isn't anything to hope for, and just wishing there was.

General Comment:OK! In The Wall, a big part of Pink building his mental wall is that his dad died in WWII. Vera Lynn was a very popular singer at the time with the song "We'll Meet Again" she sings that everyone will be reunited with the people that went off to WWII. So Pink is reffering to Vera in a way that she lied to him, because he was not reunited with his father.
