Lyrics for Adam's Song as interpreted by piesupreme

Adam's Song Lyrics
I never thought I'd die alone
I laughed the loudest who'd have known?
I traced the cord back to the wall
No wonder it was never plugged in at all
I took my time, I hurried up
The choice was mine I didn't think enough
I'm too depressed to go on
You'll be sorry when I'm gone

I never conquered, rarely came
16 just held such better days
Days when I still felt alive
We couldn't wait to get outside
The world was wide, too late to try
The tour was over, We'd survived
I couldnt wait til I got home
To pass the time in my room alone

I never thought I'd die alone
Another six months I'll be unknown
Give all my things to my friends
You'll never set foot in my room again
You'll close it off, board it up
Remember the time I spilled the cup
Of apple juice in the hall
Please tell mom this is not her fault

I never conquered, rarely came
16 just held such better days
Days when I still felt alive
We couldn't wait to get outside
The world was wide, too late to try
The tour was over, We'd survived
I couldnt wait til I got home
To pass the time in my room alone

I never conquered, rarely came
Tomorrow just holds such better days
Days when I can still feel alive
When I cant wait to get outside
The world is wide, the time goes by
The tour is over, I survived
I can't wait 'til I get home
To pass the time in my room alone

haha i agree.. you are a fucking idiot iamthebest... what the fuck do you know about punk?!? by the way the whole point of a band is so that people will listen to you and to have a good time...not whether how punk you are or aren't... and they are punk because they are having a good time and no giving a shit so why don't you think about.. what you are saying you dumbass, no, blink 182 isn't the best band, but they are still good, and hello? a depressing song not being punk? have you ever heard of emo? you really are a dumbass!

Not true, once a band gets as popular as Blink is, THEN they have no right to call themselves punk. Or, when people who used to like Linkin Park say they are "so punk" is when they aren't punk.

What the fuck? A band can call themselves punk if they fucken feel like it. It's not a fucking crown. It's a title, just like pop... rock..... rap.... r&b... It's a genre of music, it's not about the popularity it's about how the music sounds, and the best word to describe blink's sound would be punk. Who gives a fucking shit if they are popular. That is so pathetic

to sgrt144, i noticed the nirvana reference recently too. i think it really adds to the sadness of the song but i do agree that yes, it does have a happy ending and that although it sad it ends on a positive note and in the end its a potent and inspiring song. there was a time when i was depressed and had really low self esteem. when i listened to the song i initially thought he killed himself too, but after listening to it a couple morre times i realised the ending was a positive one and im not saying the song changed my life, but i did feel better after realising that. i agree with HappinessNA

The story behind that is Mark read a letter someone sent him as an email, that a kid wrote before he committed suicide to his parents. We kind of got together and wrote this sad, slow song. It came out sadder than we ever thought it would, which is good too. Any song that moves you is good. Some people listen to it and go 'Wow, that's a real bum-out of a song.' But it's one of those things, a story of a kid not being happy in his life, crossed with us being really lonely on tour. At the end of it there's a better way out, there are better things to do than kill yourself.

In a interview, Mark said the song was simply about going out on tour and that being such a high that when he got back home thing became so boring.

Does anybody see the connection in some of the lyrics in this song with the lyrics in Nirvana's "Come as You Are"? Blink 182 says "I took my time, I hurried up The choice was mine..." Nirvana says, " Take your time, hurry up, choice is yours..." Maybe somebody already pointed this out and I just didn't read it.

Macolm1::::

I see where your coming from about the true reason the band wrote it. But answering the question "What does this song mean to you?", I'd say its about somebody who is lonely and depressed and is about to kill himself. That is what the song means to me and that is the reason I like and listen to it.

I have heard that this song was written about their girlfriends also, But In the book written by Marks sister, It says that they got mail from "sumbraro"( their fav restaurant) and a guy named Adam wrote them a suicide note. Read the book. But when Mark wrote it he said he missed being at home with his Girl Sky.. So the song was based off of a suicide but written about Marks on situation.

In response to sqrt144 and PinkBerry37: Yeah, i also noticed the similarity to "Come As You Are." I think it's sort of a tribute to Cobain. Nevermind had a sort of a punkish theme to it. It was partly about being an uncool, outcast kid in high school. So it's appropriate to have a connection to it in this song.

And by the way, "come as you are" wasn't just a "little song" off Nevermind. It's remembered as one of Nirvana's greatest and it's still played plenty on the radio today. In fact, like 9 or 10 of the songs on Nevermind are still standards today.
