Lyrics for Adam's Song as interpreted by piesupreme

Adam's Song Lyrics
I never thought I'd die alone
I laughed the loudest who'd have known?
I traced the cord back to the wall
No wonder it was never plugged in at all
I took my time, I hurried up
The choice was mine I didn't think enough
I'm too depressed to go on
You'll be sorry when I'm gone

I never conquered, rarely came
16 just held such better days
Days when I still felt alive
We couldn't wait to get outside
The world was wide, too late to try
The tour was over, We'd survived
I couldnt wait til I got home
To pass the time in my room alone

I never thought I'd die alone
Another six months I'll be unknown
Give all my things to my friends
You'll never set foot in my room again
You'll close it off, board it up
Remember the time I spilled the cup
Of apple juice in the hall
Please tell mom this is not her fault

I never conquered, rarely came
16 just held such better days
Days when I still felt alive
We couldn't wait to get outside
The world was wide, too late to try
The tour was over, We'd survived
I couldnt wait til I got home
To pass the time in my room alone

I never conquered, rarely came
Tomorrow just holds such better days
Days when I can still feel alive
When I cant wait to get outside
The world is wide, the time goes by
The tour is over, I survived
I can't wait 'til I get home
To pass the time in my room alone

hey, chew on this for a second. Think way back 11 years ago to the Nirvana days. On the Nevermind album, there was a little song called Come As You Are. Part of the lyrics say, "take your time, hurray up. The choice is yours, don't be late." Now look at the Blink182 lyrics to Adam's Song, "I took my time, I hurried up. The choice was mine I didn't think enough." Mark obviously had borrowed these lyrics from the late great Kurt Cobain. What is he saying here?...

Blink 182 SUCKS.....i'm not a pop hater, i'm not a punk hater either...what bothers me about blink is that they have all pop fans, but try to come off as being punk....they're fake, they just try too hard. If you want real music, try a little Dashboard or NFG....

i don't think blink are sell-outs....but they're not true punk. they're still an awesome band, with really good music, but it's not punk. they haven't gotten better or worse over the years, they've just changed their style. it doesn't matter what you classify them as. they're a band, plain and simple. they go out there and play music. it doesn't matter whether they play to Teeny Boppers of skinheads. they're still a band, and they still play. so, just stop saying stuff like "they SUCK!" or "they're sellouts!". they didn't sell out, they changed. get used to it. and beachgirl, how can you judge a band by attitude? sure, they sound like pop punk, but how does that change their behavior? Britney Spears acts like a slut. musicians will always be different than they're music. get used to it.

guys, i just proposed a question open for debate, which is the point of this website, and all you can do is bitch and moan about whether or not they are sellouts or if they are true punk or not. if you dont have anything intelligent to say, then keep your opinions to yourself or go to a chat room

xxkrash182xx: I had a big conversation about that and we decided it was just a prank. Its Blink...what do you expect? Plus, they were on TV not too long after that and were miraculously "healed"

adams song is one of my favourite songs i was depressed a few months back and i used to love listening to it because it helped somehow... and with the whole blink is pop not punk or whatever who really cares? loki1299 is right if you like a band its not because they punk its becuase you like the fricking music. blink are legends. besides backstreet boys are pop, do blink sound like them?? i don't think so... who really cares anyway? the important thing is that they sound good and they do.
can someone explain that apple juice thing to me? i don't get that part....

Life really sucks sometimes, but it gets better. You make mistakes, you do little stuff, you think you arent noticed, but people would notice if you were gone.

this song is about a boy who is possibly moving away from home and he thinks that when he is gone that no one is going to remember him. He feels that once he leaves, they're just going to board up his room and forget about him. He feels that no one is going to talk to him or about him for the rest of his life. This is a wondeful song and I feel that it is one of the best songs EVER written.

Blink 182 sucks because they claim to be "punk" yet are just as mainstream as NSYNC.. They are a slap in the face of EVERYTHING that IS punk and should NEVER have become musicians.. Music isn't about making money.. It's about expression.. Everyone else just doesn't get it.

maxpower you butt monkey... -mainstream as NSYNC-?? get a life man... ur right about money not being everything and its about the musicians expressions but who said Blink were just making music for money? if they didn't have any feeling or passion in their lyrics they would have made lyrics like "oh yeah... we just learnt how to play music to make fools of ourselves and make lots of money... money money money" and by the looks of things.. they haven't written them like that now have they? im sick of these people just going on about how their old music is great (which it really bloody is) but saying how their new music sucks. if you're a fan... ur a fucken fan. get over you're hypocritical views and thoughts on 'punk-pop' and STOP throwing that gay ass word -emo around like its an empty beer bottle.. most of you all use that word way to lightly... and Blink 182 kickass... and they probably wouldn't care if you thought different anyway.

WHO SAID THAT PUNK CANNOT BE MAINSTREAM!? I'M SICK OF ALL OF YOU ASSUMING THAT JUST BECAUSE OF A LABEL THEN THEYRE NOT PUNK? ISN'T IT ABOUT THE MUSIC AND NOT THE LABEL? SHOOT... IT'S UNFAIR TO KEEP OTHER PEOPLE IN THE DARK ABOUT REALLY GOOD MUSIC. THEY NEED TO GO MAINSTREAM TO BE HEARD. I DONT SEE WHAT THE BIG DEAL IS ABOUT THE WHOLE MAINSTREAM THING. OTHER THAN THAT, WHATEVER MAN.

Wow.... how did I guess that a good portion of the 100 and something posts on this song would be arguments? It seems like every band of any genre that comes from humble beginnings to hit the big time is labeled a sellout. It's so lame... God forbid a band could actually be successful.

This is for bands in general, though. As far as Blink goes... well, they haven't changed their music THAT MUCH over the course of their careers, so you can't really say they sold out because they got too pop-y. They've always been pop-punk. Whoever was aghast at the comment someone made about them being "as mainstream as NSYNC" should probably rethink that... because they pretty much are. This isn't, however, a reason to dislike the music. You dislike it because you just plain don't like them, and if that's the case then fine. None of this "Oh NO, they're on TRL now!".

Face it, Blink's not all that deep to begin with, so it isn't as though they went all shallow and commercial on us. Adam's Song is a really good attempt at a meaningful song on their part, and it turned out very well. I'm sure it's helped a lot of people, and that's great. I don't really see why people think it's sad, because the ending is defeinitely a turn for the better.
"Tomorrow just holds such better days
Days when I can still felt alive
When I cant wait to get outside"
...is just the opposite of depressing.

Just my two cents,
Ashley
*who's going to the Pop Disaster concert much more to see Green Day and Saves the Day than Blink 182, but still thinks they're pretty good

This song is about a suicidal guy whom just can't take life anymore. He plans to kill himself and for his parents to just forget about him and he'll be fine and it's not their fault. He talks about how things used to so great, but then things just got worse. Then, more into the song, he realizes what a good life he has. The optimism strikes back into the ending chorus. Now, Blink 182 may be pop-punk but I don't care what others think, a good song is a good song one way or another!
