"Daddy's flown across the ocean" Means His father was in the war. Which means he flown across the ocean to fight in the war! Well... that makes sense!

"A snap shot in the family album " Means He wasnt even born to see his father. Which means he only sees him in pictures in the family album.

"Daddy what d'ya leave behind for me " Means he didnt leave nothing for him but a mother that is overproctective. He left him a life with out a father figure in his life. Someone to really look up too. He left him a brick for him for the wall the get bigger. Which describes this lyric "All in all it was all just a brick in the wall" And if you dont still dont understand your a total moron :D j/king

The Wall is a great movie, it means a lot to me in the sense of me going through nearly the exact same thing as Roger Waters (the bassist who the whole movie/album's about). The first time you watch it you probably wont understand it, but The Wall is a metaphorical wall he's built around himself. he's very isolated in it and by the time he wants to break out its too late...

I heard that Roger Water's inspiration for the song was that when he was performing in front of an arena crowd, he, for some reason or another, spit on one of the fans in the front of the stage. He's admitted that for awhile he hated performing live, but after that incident, he felt bad about it, and felt like he'd built a brick wall between him and the audience, the fans that make his career. After that, part of their show actually consisted of building a brick wall on the stage throughout the course of the concert, then at the end, while performing Another Brick in the Wall, they would tear it down. Apparently that was getting pretty spendy though, and it only lasted for about 60 shows.

Yes, The Wall is based on Syd Barrett. He was having issues with the band and then went insane. The song Wish You Were Here is also about Barrett. Part 2 is over rated. 1 is a lot better but the album should be listened to in whole.

White magic is absolutely right. If you listen to the second CD of the wall, there's a song called "Bring The Boys Back Home". This song might be partially tied to it. I agree with Z as well with the over rating of CD 2, if you ask me, they're equal in their own rights, and might be better if listened as a whole. And when Pink says "Leaving just a memory", he obviously means that his father isn't coming back, and only leaves the memory of himself behind for his wife.

i think in this song waters is talkin abt his own father who went to war and died. as for the wall being based on syd barret, i don't think so. wish u were here is based on him. the wall is pretty much waters' album and i think for the most part, he's talkin abt himself (he was very self-centred). he completely monopolised this album.

This song covered along with 2, 3, and Goodbye Cruel World, smashed together in a row, by Korn. Worst cover ever, Korn can't play their instruments well enough to get the damn notes right.

(Ereinion is mostly wrong, also; The Wall is _NOT_ an autobiography. Waters say so himself. It's based different people; but mostly, it's about the fictional Pink. Still, certainly, some aspects are based upon himself, and this is one.)

The Wall movie is about a fictional character named Pink Floyd. He is a meld of David Gilmour, Syd Barret and Roger Waters (not so much david gilmour though, his song was Comfortably Numb). This song is simply about him losing his dad in the war, it's been explained up there.

bleedingheartartist..i totally agree with you. when i first heard the korn cover the words "how dare you" just repeated over and over in my head. wow i cant even think about it. tear. ye anyways i dont think the wall was about syd at all. they pretty much covered that issue in wywh. to me "pink's" father i guess dying in war was the building block or first incident that created "the wall"

the whole collection (1, 2, and part 3) is about how the goverment dont care about soldiers lost at war or they are "just another brick in the wall"

Dear God!! The Wall is about Waters, even if he doesn't admit it officially. Water's father left to go to war and was killed there, this "put another brick in his Wall". His Wall is his escapism and lack of ability to confront those around him and his hatred of all the things that have caused him to isolate himself.
