The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

This is my FAVOURITE Floyd track. I've been listening to it since it came out in 1973. I was in Grade 7 at that time, and Dark Side of the Moon was HUGELY popular. I convinced my art teacher to allow the class to paint the album's Prism/Rainbow/Heartbeat graphic along the wall of the school hallway. We used an overhead projector for the template and the result was excellent. I returned to the school several years later and saw that it was still there! As for "Time", I LOVE Gilmour's guitar here... it's ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! The lyrics are deep and speak to me on so many levels... And thanks "inpraiseoffolly" for the analysis; you're so RIGHT! It's 33 years, a marriage and two kids later... and I'm STILL wondering what to do with the rest of my life! HELP!!!!!!
