I've got a bike. You can ride it if you like.
It's got a basket, a bell that rings and
Things to make it look good.
I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it.
You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, ev'rything if you want things.
I've got a cloak. It's a bit of a joke.
There's a tear up the front. It's red and black.
I've had it for months.
If you think it could look good, then I guess it should.
You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, ev'rything if you want things.
I know a mouse, and he hasn't got a house.
I don't know why. I call him Gerald.
He's getting rather old, but he's a good mouse.
You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, ev'rything if you want things.
I've got a clan of gingerbread men.
Here a man, there a man, lots of gingerbread men.
Take a couple if you wish. They're on the dish.
You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, ev'rything if you want things.
I know a room full of musical tunes.
Some rhyme, some ching. Most of them are clockwork.
Let's go into the other room and make them work.
It's got a basket, a bell that rings and
Things to make it look good.
I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it.

Then, I picture this crazy looking boy and girl who are on tricycles, with a pet mouse on both shoulder, ripped up jackets, and they are overlooking an army of gingerbread men.
When it talks about the making the room full of music, I feel as if they figured out each other, and they can make each other's world work together.
That's my interpretation. That, or it is about random things!
The one thing I don't like, though, is the ending... now that creeps me out!
First of all the premise of what I'm about to propose is that the room of musical tunes, with the clock sounds, etc., does indeed represent copulation between a man and a woman. That interpretation has been mentioned quite a few times in this thread, and rightly so in my opinion. It didn't take me very many listens to arrive at the same conclusion.
What never occurred to me until yesterday though (at least, not consciously), during the more than three decades that I've listened to this charming song, is that those geese-like sound effects at the end of the song are an ingenious representation of the result of all that "hard work" going on in the sounds that precede them: namely, a baby.
The comment that seems closest to my interpretation here was written by jorgis on 12-10-2005:
"That geese in the noise-part after the song really freaks me out, btw. I remember watching the "Syd Barret story" DVD, and some guy (gallagher from Oasis or something?) said that he always got really scared by that geese and thought that if music can have so much power over you, it truly had to be powerful."
Powerful indeed. I don't think Syd Barrett was just tossing random sounds around. He had his feelings and observations, and an extraordinary ability to express them musically, unlike anyone who came before, or after.
"but I borrowed it
You're the kind of girl
that fits in with my world
I'll give you anything, everything
if you want thing"
shes the kind of girl because she doesnt care if its borrowed and he will give here everything if she wants thing but she doesnt because shes the kind of girl who fits into his world. same thing about her saying his torn cloak can look good or that the mouse is good even though hes old, replace the mouse with anything else thought to be worthless and old and it proves the point. and at the end 'some rhyme some ching but most of them are clock work, the key word is most and the fact that the very message is in this song proves that it doesnt qualify as one of those songs

This song is very sneaky. I think he is trying to seduce a girl in a very sneaky way. He could be referring the mouse to him self. He is tired of being lonely. The cloak makes people feel sorry for him etc... Or he is trying to seduce the listener into his mind.
Either way this song seems very seductive to me if its anything besides words that sound good together.
