As he came into the window
It was the sound of a crescendo
He came into her apartment
He left the bloodstains on the carpet
She ran underneath the table
He could see she was unable
So she ran into the bedroom
She was struck down, it was her doom

Annie, are you ok?
So, Annie are you ok
Are you ok, Annie
Annie, are you ok?
So, Annie are you ok
Are you ok, Annie
Annie, are you ok?
So, Annie are you ok?
Are you ok, Annie?
Annie, are you ok?
So, Annie are you ok, are you ok Annie?

(Annie are you ok?)
(Will you tell us that you're ok?)
(There's a sign in the window)
(That he struck you - a crescendo Annie)
(He came into your apartment)
(He left the bloodstains on the carpet)
(The you ran into the bedroom)
(You were struck down)
(It was your doom)

Annie, are you ok?
So, Annie are you ok?
Are you ok, Annie?
Annie, are you ok?
So, Annie are you ok?
Are you ok, Annie?
Annie, are you ok?
So, Annie are you ok?
Are you ok, Annie?
You've been hit by
You've been hit by
A smooth criminal

So they came into the outway
It was Sunday - what a black day
Mouth to mouth
Resuscitation
Sounding heartbeats - intimidation

Annie, are you ok?
So, Annie are you ok
Are you ok, Annie
Annie, are you ok?
So, Annie are you ok
Are you ok, Annie
Annie, are you ok?
So, Annie are you ok?
Are you ok, Annie?
Annie, are you ok?
So, Annie are you ok, are you ok Annie?

(Annie are you ok?)
(Will you tell us that you're ok?)
(There's a sign in the window)
(That he struck you - a crescendo Annie)
(He came into your apartment)
(Left the bloodstains on the carpet)
(The you
Ran into the bedroom)
(You were struck down)
(It was your doom)

(Annie are you ok?)
(So, Annie are you ok?)
(Are you ok Annie?)
(You've been hit by)
(You've been struck by
A smooth criminal)

Okay, I want everybody to clear
The area right now!

Aaow!
(Annie are you ok?)
I don't know!
(Will you tell us that you're ok?)
I don't know!
(There's a sign in the window)
I don't know!
(That he struck you - a crescendo Annie)
I don't know!
(He came into your apartment)
I don't know!
(Left the bloodstains on the carpet)
I don't know why baby!
(The you ran into the bedroom)
I don't know
(You were struck down)
(It was your doom - Annie!)

(Annie are you ok?)
Dag gone it - baby!

Dag gone it!
(Left the bloodstains on the carpet)
Hoo! Hoo! Hoo!
(The you ran into the bedroom)
Dag gone it!

(You were struck down)
(It was your doom - Annie!)
Aaow!!!

My Interpretation:Based on the lyrics and the music video combined I personally think that it's about a man who abuses his wife/girlfriend/mother/sister/whoever Annie is, but since this was awhile ago (based on the music video, they appear to be in a speakeasy/secret bar because alcohol used to be illegal) and in this time domestic violence wasn't really considered a crime, even though it's still wrong, so this man may be the smooth criminal simply because it's wrong to be abusive (criminal) but he won't be arrested or anything for doing (which makes him the smooth criminal)

My Interpretation:I think the song is about a girl being played.

"He came into her apartment" means she let him into her heart and trusted him. "He left the bloodstains on the carpet" -- he didnt try to fix anything after he broke her heart. "She ran underneath the table He could see she was unable So she ran into the bedroom" -- she wasnt sure about him at first but decided to give him a chance.

    "Are you ok, Annie?
    You've been hit by
    You've been hit by
    A smooth criminal"
----- The guy was a player, and the girl is left with a broken heart and has to find a way to clean up the mess on her own.

"So they came into the outway
It was Sunday - what a black day
    Mouth to mouth
    Resuscitation
    Sounding heartbeats - intimidation"
------ The day after the intimate encounter, the girl feels like shit because she realizes he didnt care. Her heart is shattered. Just the thought of getting close to anyone again is too much for her. She gave her heart away and ended up just being used.

General Comment:I think that a murderer came into the window, and as he did, he shot the gun. I know that Mr. Jackson does use Ta in a lot of his songs, but I think that the Ta can refer to a gun shot. If you watch the music video, the gun he is holding makes a Ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta sound. So, I think that it could mean that. I don't know, thats what I always thought. Love the song. Has anyone seen Cody Simpson perform on the show So Random? He tries to pull off the move I have only seen Mr. Jackson do, the lean. He has back-up dancers hold him back so he doesn't fall. I saw that and I have hated him ever since. I hate him now. I know many other people must too.

Song Meaning:Why would this be about a murder? Or someone losing their virginity?

I can only assume this song is about cheating. That's what it sounds like judging from the title.

General Comment:As seen from the point of view of the lyrics being written in sexual metaphors, it can be broken down line by line:

"As he came into the window"
"Window" meaning a woman's orifice; "came" as meaning ejaculation.

"It was the sound of a crescendo -Ta"
The crescendo being the orgasm/orgasmic groans.

    "He came into her apartment"
Apartment being a place inside of her; "came" being ejaculation again.

"He left the bloodstains on the carpet -Ta"
The blood leftover from the sex, implying rape or the breaking of maidenhead.

I can't go much more in depth at the moment but I can say the "smooth criminal" is the penis.

General Comment:To me, this song is about something far more basic to human experience than "Rape" and murder. Rather, it is about a girl who is seduced by a man who couldn't care less about her. Hence, her heart stopping (Annie are you ok, a la CPR) and everybody needs to leave her be (I want the area cleared.)
